    RVS4000 Firmware v1.1.09 Release Note

    2/20/2007

***Due to the new features supported in this new firmware, the configuration files of earlier firmware cannot be used after the firmware is upgraded to v1.1.09. Please reset the router to factory default after upgrading the firmware and configure the router from scratch. In case you want to revert the firmware back to earlier firmware, it is recommended that you first export the current configuration before upgrading the firmware.***

    New Features:

    1. Support 6to4 under Dual-Stack IP Mode.
    2. Support Custom DNS provided by DynDNS.org.
    3. Support DHCP static IP based on MAC address. Up to 50 entries are supported.
    4. Support user-defined NTP server for time setting.
    5. Support a configurable port for Remote Management, https or http.
    6. Firewall supports IP-based ACL (Access Control List). Up to 50 rules are supported.
    7. Single Port Forwarding allows the external port to be different from the internal port.
    8. IPSec VPN supports remote gateway defined by a DDNS domain name.
    9. QuickVPN supports self-generated certificate on the VPN Client Accounts page.
    10. QoS supports bandwidth management (layer-3 QoS).
    11. QoS supports DSCP/CoS/port-based QoS (layer-2 QoS).
    12. Logging supports multiple severity levels.
    13. Email Alert supports SMTP Authentication.
    14. L2 Switch supports (up to four) 802.1q-based VLANs, port mirroring, and RSTP.
    15. DHCP Server (in the Setup->LAN page) supports multiple subnets, once multiple VLANs are created.
    16. Support routing between VLANs, which can be enabled/disabled in the Setup->Advanced Routing page.
    17. Support SIP Application Layer Gateway.

    Issues Fixed:

    1. Fixed the issue that port 443 cannot be forwarded to a LAN IP address. (When port 443 is forwarded, QuickVPN will operate on port 60443.)
    2. Fixed an issue with port 443 where the port is always open on the firewall.
    3. Fixed an issue with some cable modem where RVS4000 cannot get an WAN IP address using DHCP.
    4. Fixed an issue that RVS4000 cannot pass multicast traffic in the Rotuer mode.
    5. Added the statistics of the Internet port to the L2 Switch->Statistics page.
    6. Fixed an issue that the DHCP server cannot support hostnames with more than 15 characters.
    7. Fixed an UPnP vulnerability issue with port forwarding.

    Known Issue:

    1. The Help page of the QoS page contains errors. There is no user interface widget to enable/disable QoS - the QoS feature is always enabled. To configure the QoS, the trust mode of a port can be set to either Port, CoS, or DSCP. When the trust mode is set to Port, the priority of the port can be set to 1, 2, 3, or 4 (highest priority).

When the trust mode is set to CoS, the priority of an incoming ethernet frame is determined by the CoS bits in the frame. The CoS Setup table specifies how each CoS value (0~7) is mapped to Queue 1~4 (4 being the highest priority). If an incoming frame does not have CoS bits set, the frame will be tagged with the default CoS value associated with the port the frame comes from.

When the trust mode is set to DSCP, the priority of an incoming ethernet frame is determined by the DSCP bits in the IP header. The DSCP Setup table specifies how each DSCP value (0~63) is mapped to Queue 1~4 (4 being the highest priority).

    2. The Inter-VLAN Routing feature cannot be enabled/disabled when the WAN port is down, although the Web UI can save the configuration. Please ensure the WAN port is up when enabling or disabling Inter-VLAN Routing.

Please report any bugs/issues you have with THIS firmware by replying to this thread. Give as much info on your Router/LAN setup as well. Thx

    QoS Setup Tab

I don't see the Enable/Disable Mode button for QoS on this page as mentioned on the left side of the page.

Also in the Help section, it says for COS, the port priority goes from 0 to 7 with 0 as the lowest priority and 7 as the highest priority. Is this correct? If so, when Port-based QOS is selected from the Trust mode, which has highest priority from 1 to 4?

    Thanks

With the 1.1.09 beta firmware, I was unable to set the Ingoing and Outgoing logs (Log Setting first section) and email alerts feature (second section) to Enabled (note previous firmware was e-mailing me about IPS versions being old). I was able to set the local log (fourth section) to Enabled. This was a clean flash, reset to factory defaults, then configured. Nothing special in the configuration, especially that should impact this. Was running Dual-IP stack. Everything else, thus far, is great...now if only some of these fixes can be made to the WRVS4400N...

I can enable the logs, and view them.

I wasn't using dual stack ip mode, but I went ahead and turned it on (no reason not to really) and they still work. The only thing I could not get to work was "Email Log Now". I click the button and it does something, but I never get an email. It may actually be working, but because no DoS attacks have been logged, it simply does not send an email. So, that's probably not a bug.

Yea, on the QOS tab, under "QOS Setup" its all screwed up. Like ngkim mentioned, There is no disable QOS anywhere as stated in the help documentation. Furthermore, when you change a port's trust mode to "port" there is a js error:

    Code:
uncaught exception: [Exception... "Could not convert JavaScript argument - 0 was passed, expected object. Did you mean null?" nsresult: "0x80570035 (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_CONVERT_JS_ZERO_ISNOT_NULL)" location: "JS frame :: http://192.168.1.1/switch_qos.htm :: show_relate :: line 68" data: no]
And the dropdown box at the far right (for "Default COS / Port Priority) becomes blank. There should be a choice of 1,2,3, or 4.

Also strange, and js related as well, when you first come to this page, if all port trust modes are set to none, not all "Default COS / Port Priority" dropdowns are disabled (greyed out) like they should be.

I have a feeling this is all unfinished features though, or prob just known bugs, and if not, they're know now :)

On the Firewall tab under "Basic Settings", if I enable "Remote Management", in firefox the layout of the port textfield and the additional settings get all messed up. The text "Port:" is on one line, while the textfield where you enter the port is on another, and some other crap. This layout bug is not present in Internet Explorer. I've attached a screenshot so you could see it.

Furthermore, if your computer is set on a high resolution, I use 1600 x 1200, you'll get some funky right column behavior. NOTE, This is not new in this beta firmware, cause I saw it in the last version too (1.0.15). This layout bug exists in Internet Explorer and firefox and I've also attached a screenshot for this. You'll notice in the screenshot that the background image for the right column (where help text is displayed) has repeated.

Before I said the "E-mail Log Now" button seemed to not do anything. Turns out the emails went into my junk folder, so it def works.

    as the release notes show.

Please reset the router to factory default after upgrading the firmware and configure the router from scratch.

    did you guys do that?

Yes, I saw that in the release notes and did it immediately after I upgraded the firmware.

BTW Toxic, thanks for the work you do here and your established relationship with linksys and providing betas. I really appreciate it :D

Yes, given history with different Linksys products, now ALWAYS do that with any firmware upgrades.

Another bug. On the VPN -> VPN Client Accounts page, the last certificate generation date is fubar. All the way at the bottom of the page:

Certificate Last Generated or Imported: 1969-12-31 16:04:33

I even generated a new one. Looks like the epoch, so whatever timestamp they are passing, is bad.

    vpn rvs4000 firmware 1.1.09

I have 3 of these devices. All are working well except vpn client connections. With the old firmware and old vpn client I never had a problem connecting remotley and accessing shares or RDP. With the new firmware and new vpn client using the exported certificates I can connect but, if I try and connect to an internal resource, rdp or ping something it fails. Any suggestions? I did reset the devices back to factory specs after updating to the latests firmware.

    thanks

    Remote Security

My RVS4000 is a standalone gateway (no static other end). I upgraded to the beta 1.1.09 becuase the other version wasn't broadcasting Netbios and I can't vnc to my computers on that network. Thus far the only problem I have is setting up the VPN > IPsec it give me the option to select "Any" for Remote Security Group Type: But for Remote Security Gateway Type it's only options are IP Only or IP + Domain. If I want it to be accessable anywhere what IP do I put here. If possible could put back the option Any like it's original firmware had.

uninstall the quick vpn client and try manually deleting the quick vpn folder from program files, then re-install it.

    vlan

hello out there we need help
My partner and I have a office building with 8 different offices. So we went out and bought a linksys srw208g and setup the vlan. Making the g1 port the trunk line to the router. The router we bought was the rvs4000 with the frimware update. What we are seeing now is that the vlan is not being passed through the trunk of the switch to the router. I am under the impression that I need to do something in ther router to pass the vlan information through out to the internet.
Any help is great at this point.

Does anyone know why my FTP speeds are very, very, very slow with this router in place? Swap out the router, the clients can access FTP sites and upload/download quickly. Put the router back in, FTP dies. What's up with that? Can I revert back to the stock firmware?

If you see low throughput with default configuration, then you might want to RMA the device. If the issue is caused by your particular configuration and you want Linksys to fix the issue, send them the configuration file so they can troubleshoot further. So far I can see ftp throughput between WAN and LAN better than 100Mbps.

    Performance test after upgrade, anyone?

Has anyone made a performance test after upgrading to the beta firmware, just to measure if the speed is better than the earlier "Tom's Hardware" test results?
    (Please post them as well...)

Does anyone know of any planned update for the RVS4000? I've had to downgrade to 1.0.15 and disable a lot of things to keep stable... Anyone? Bueller?
