I've tried several locations, several times to grab 1.1.14, but the ftp site wont transfer it, and either does their website..
Can someone give me another idea or place to grab it from?

    thank you!

Today is 2/21/2008 ... Still the same version, same problems, same wasted investment...

remind me why I'm brand loyal?

Use to be loyal to linksys, but i've moved on now. I made my own cheap computer box just to serve as a router. PfSense is great - would have went with IPCop, but it didn't support my nic cards properly. :)

I have no idea who has complained about what so far but it in the event this has not been covered...

    Router won't keep time.
    MAC address clone doesn't work
2 Mornings a week when the morning allow schedule kicks in from the IP Based ACL it runs out of memory and requires resetting or it won't allow any traffic.

I am trying to figure out how sloppy a software designer has to be to screw up keeping time and how sloppy a QA department has to be to allow such a major oversight.

More importantly why am I beta testing firmware for you? It was advertised as a functional piece of business grade equipment not as a work-in-process project from your company. Why am I paying YOU to beta test YOUR product?

WHAT?!? 4 months?!? I bet I can't return it now either. I have been buried under work and have tried to make do with this piece of crap because I have had no time to do anything about it. It seems like it would hurt Cisco sales to advertise these faulty products under "A Division of Cisco". The Linksys wireless camera would not connect to the Linksys WAP. Speaking of WAPs I have had two different Linksys WAPs that I had to finally replace with a much more functional Netgear because the computers would not stay connected (I was unplugging and plugging them in 6+ times a day). I NEVER have to restart the netgear and I NEVER lose connection.

This is obviously a company that does not care about quality.

(They log you out pretty fast here too... perhaps to frustrate people into just leaving to cut down on complaints?)

Is it possilbe that Linksys stopped the support for this router? Since 12/08/2007 there is no IPS Signature update. I don't know if I should buy e.g. some other Hardware or keep on waiting for updates.
Is it Ciscos aim to harm the reputation of Linksys? I am really frustatet about this Situation.

You should take a look again on there site. Apparently it was updated the same day you posted this.

FTP through this router does not work. Therefore you cannot download updates from the Linksys site since they only use FTP. Poetic, isn' it?

There must be something wrong with your config. I've never had an issue using FTP nor downloading updates from Linksys through this router.

Can anyone say for certain whether this router is supposed to support roaming VPN with this firmware? I can't for the life of me figure out how to set a tunnel with any IP as the remote gateway (eg, connecting with a Mac laptop from a hotel or wireless cafe). It demands a known remote gateway address, which is fine for fixed site-to-site stuff.

so rather than tell me that your router works, please help and suggest a configuration that will work. I have tried many suggestions over the last 3 months and FTP simply does not work on this router. Period. FTP is broken. There may be some configuration somewhere where it does work but for me and the other folks complaining about the router FTP does not work. Please offer a suggestion. Again, stating that your configuration works w/o telling us what your configuration is provides no help at all.

Here are a few recent entries from the log file taken at the time that I was trying to FTP. If someone can translate to something meaningful I would appreciate it.

    I'm thinking the same..

I thought this was a good product when I bought it, but when I had used it for a couple of days I realized that it was the ****tiest product ever.

IPS cut's down my internet connection from 24/8 to 12/5.
The router needs to be rebooted several times a day.

Linksys succeeded with the WRT54-series, but the other series feels like bull****.

    FTP does not work

Has anybody been able to decode the log file and provide a clue as to what is going wrong with FTP?

I was a bit bristly when I called linksys yesterday and was told my issue got "escalated to Irvine" because of the DHCP over wireless & ftp. When the rep told me that someone would be calling me back within 8 hours, which amounted to between then and just past 1 am, I pretty much had enough and got over to a supervisor. Said supervisor (eventually) explained that there were a list they had of things they escalate to Irvine that customer's call about on this router. Eventually I got him to send me a copy of the list and he quickly had the tier I rep that got me to him send it out... FTP is one of the issues

Sooo.... reach out and touch someone :)

Ow.. I forgot to mention a thing in my last post.

I called the support asking about low performance, and you know what the indian support told me? He said that it's normal with a 50% cut in throughoutput with devices that uses NAT.

I'm never going to buy a Linksux product again. Never.

    RVS4000 - 1yr

Well I've had my (4) RVS4000's for about a year now.

4 months after purchasing, I was able to mesh router-router rvs4000 vpns using static ip addresses. It works, and seemingly well enough for my management network. Unfortunately, that's only 1 of the advertised features that I bought the rvs4000's for.

I've never gotten ddns resolution for vpns to work. I guess Linksys just gave up on this product feature. Although it's still listed as a viable option in the config, it doesnt work.

I've given up on client to router vpn using these routers. They just don't work as advertised. A customer would probably never see the VISTA disclaimer on Linksys's website until after they bought the shrink wrapped "Vista Compatible" product back from a big box store. There really should be a class action lawsuit against Linksys for selling a product that has never been 100% compatible with Windows Vista, yet fully advertised as so on the shiny cardboard box. It's extremely unforgiving to tout a vista compatible vpn, yet refer to a ms technet article as to why your product doesnt' really work for 80% of your customer base that uses linksys Natting and Vista.

After 6 months of having the routers, linksys finally released a somewhat stable firmware. So I no longer have to schedule reboots of these routers.

For Host to VPN solution I've built a small Windows Server 2008 VPN solution. It works as advetised and I get real technical support from a real company when I have issues with it. I don't get transfered from continent to continent due to incompetent customer service reps.

    Lessons learned:

    * Linksys routers are not supported by the company, only by the user base.
    * Linksys is not a brand to buy anything VPN related from.
    * Unless I'm willing to shell out thousands of $$ in high end hardware, a software server based solution is still the most reliable and effective VPN solution.

    and last but not least....

Never, never, never, never, never buy anything Linksys related without doing searches on this forum to set my product expectations. Linksys falsely advertises.

Linksys lost me as a lifetime customer because of this router and some other "business class hardware" I bought. I've been using linksys network equipment since the year 2000. Never again. I'm moving onto dlink.

I think there is a new file at Linksys download.
I could download it and my ftp don't work.
It loads ver. 1.11 and after a factory default
FTP seems to work so far . . :)

As everyone else here I have had the same problem until now I hope.
Yesterday I downloaded “RVS4000 Firmware Rescue Utility v1.2” from Linksys home site.
The exe files erase the eeprom and install firmware v1.1.11.
After a “Restore Factory Default” and new input of my config my RVS works fine.
I have only tested it for 20 hours but still no problem and FTP still works

And what about firewall issue with ports 23 and 5190 that was fixes in Version 1.1.14? Does VPN with 1.1.11 work? Do you have any Experiences with that?
  22. dana_se

    dana_se LI Guru Member

    No not at the moment.
I will soon upgrade to 1.1.14 and test more.
  23. dana_se

    dana_se LI Guru Member

But with the few tests I have done so fare on both ftp and http upload/download.
I must say that the speed have never been so good and stable.
So I think that Linksys must have done something in there Rescue utility that fixes something.

    My suggestion to all of you who have some trouble with your RVS400 is;
    1. Run the “RVS4000 Firmware Rescue Utility v1.2”
    2. Do a “Restore Factory Default”
    3. Configure the RVS4000 with your settings
    4. Run it for a couple of days
    5. Upgrade to latest firmware (v1.1.14)

v 1.1.14 is the best firmware to date, but this router still crashes at least once a week, sometimes 2 - 5 times a week, its completely random. I still don't even know if port triggering works either, I'm afraid to try.

Whatever, I'm gonna buy a Cisco 871 and be done with all this crap. I need something with performance and reliability. Consumer routers just aren't going to cut it. Wish I would have gone that route in the first place.

Will there ever be a new stable firmware? Or has Linksys forgotten this router and we have to throw it away?

I have problems with lockups, some settings do not work and the performance is miserable...

Will Linksys do something or is there some alternative firmware for this router? Something that works?
