Simple VPN firmware?

Hi folks. I've had vanilla Tomato running on my WRT54GL for years and love it. Now I'm looking to implement VPN such that I can connect to my home network from the Internet. I was looking at TomatoVPN, but the binary download links appear to be dead. It also doesn't appear to have been updated in 3 years. The source is there, but I don't trust myself to build it properly. (I'm not a stranger to compiling software in general, but I have no idea how finicky building a firmware image is, and don't really want to brick the router.) Does anyone know if there's another download location for that firmware?

Alternatively, is there a more up-to-date firmware with VPN server functionality built in and fairly easy to configure? The simpler the better... I'm happy with the stability of the vanilla firmware, and don't need a lot of extra bells and whistles.

...or is building a firmware from source not as fiddly/dangerous as I fear?

Shibby has K24 MIPSR1 builds for older routers. Here's the latest:

The non-USB VPN builds should work.

Thanks. I was hoping for something a little more minimalist, but I'd prefer something better maintained, so I took the plunge and went with your suggestion. Gone smoothly so far, now onto getting VPN set up...
