hi everyone. i have 6mb cable internet thats blazing fast when im directly connected to the modem. problem is, i have a laptop that i want to be wireless. so i hook up my linksys wireless G WRT54GS router and run a short patch cable from port 1 to my computer. now its as slow as dial up.

i dont know what to do. i can barely surf the internet let alone play game (which is what i got cable internet for in the first place) im not a novice to computers or to networking but i cant seem to get this router to make my connection any faster.

it would be a different story if i was only slow during games, in which i would forward the needed ports but i cant hardly maneuver through cyber space without wanting to stab myself.

    HELP ME!!!

thats odd. The 54GS can handle up to 34Mbps through the wan port. Try MAC ID cloning. In case your ISP is slowing the connection down when it sees a diff MAC ID. Also, what firmware version are you running?

what is the patch cable rated at? all cables have different ratings and this may caourse the speed to be slow over wired.
