    hey
i have really slow wireless speeds. the firmware im using is Firmware: DD-WRT v23 SP1 Final (05/16/06) std when connected directly to the router via ethernet i get the full 13mbps that my isp provides...
but when connected over wireless i get only 5mbps
my laptop has a G card built in.
i tried everything i could. i reset the router and still only get 5mbps on the wireless side.
i tired another wireless network adapter which was G also i connected it to the laptop via usb, and still only got 5mbps..
i downgraded the firmware to dd-wrtv22 final and still got the same results.
then went back to DD-WRT v23 SP1 Final (05/16/06) std and still got he same results..
    does anyone have any suggestions..

    Hi,
one idea; make a site survey and see if there are many other neighbour WLANs using the same channel as you.
Then change to another channel not used by your neighbours.

Use channel 1. Use only one antenna (the right one when looked from the back). Update the drivers of your wireless card.
Try with another wireless PC while your PC is off.

ok i changed the wireless channel to 1 and used only one antenna the right one from the back.
and used another comp wireless with my comp off and updated all the wireless drivers and still the same results..
    still only getting about 6mpbs..
maybe there is a cap on the wireless speed in the nvram variables, that are not getting reset when the router gets reset...maybe not? is that possible?

    I agree !
When I compare my WRT 54G 3.1 using DD-WRT 23 sp1 to my WAG 54G v2.0 in the same conditions, the signal is not better...
I think the antennas less powerful...

    is Frameburst enabled?

    Yes !
I can't reach a better signal than the one of my Wag...
It seems even lower than the one I had with the Linksys firmware but I didn't do too much tests with this 4.20.8 version...

By the way, is someone knowing why my signal is not very stable (I have a lot of TX errors but no RX) ?

it maybe down to wireless drivers or a combination of settings on your WAG I guess. have you tried a factory reset, then setup your wireless, do a speed test, then tweak the rest of your routers settings, and see if any if wireless performance is down to one of more settings elsewhere on the router. if you have QoS try disabling it and see if any difference. It maybe some time before you pin point the actual problem, but if you want to find whats causing this you'll need to use a process of elimination.

My Wrt has the defaults, I don't use QoS, I played only with WDS since my reset.
To reach opproximatively the same level of my Wag (v2 not v1 which is less powerful), I'm obliged increase the Xmit power to 100mW !?

thats very strange. I wonder if there is a conflict at all with the nvram settings? you could try to clear nvram settings and start over. is the firmware your using the latest sp1 beta? i cannot say i haven't seen this problem before now, has there been any posting about this on the ddwrt website forums?

Yes, I use the same firmware as Jagboy mentionned ! (generic)

now that you mention it, i used the wrt in a wds connection and never got the full 13mbps over wireless after i disabled the wds connection and shut off the other router int he wds connection...it is still the same even after a full factory reset....

btw i forget but what is the command that erases the nvram?
    is it:
    "mtd erase;reboot"

    or did it change...

Don't know, but a "Restore Factory Defaults" is the same thing, no ?

factory reset resets all the nvram values that are stock...
they dont reset the nvram variables that are added by the firmware makers...
atleast thatwas the case in dd-wrt v22 i think....

ok im starting that this is a prob with maybe the wireless driver on the router?
when you flash a different firmware does the wireless driver change also..?
i tired flashing with hyperwrt did a full reset and got rid of all cordless phones(unplug them) and used channel 9 a channel that wasnt used by the neighbors and still got only about 7mbps..

I tried again to increase the Xmit power !
On the same channel #1, with 100mW I have roughly the same level of my WAG54G 2.0...

Is 28mW the real default of Linksys firmwares ?

OK, I'm thinking now the Linksys 4.20.8 txpwr default higher than 28 mW !
It must be close to 45 mW (16.5 dBm) !

    If someone can confirm !
