SNMP & the WRT54G

I'm wanting to monitor network traffic (basically internet upload and download) through my WRT54G, version 1.0, currently using Linksys firmware version 3.03.6 (latest version that is xbox live compatible)

Every application I've found to monitor bandwidth requires that the router being monitored use SNMP. I contacted Linksys via chat, and the help there stated that this router does use SNMP, but you have to open the SNMP port to have the router monitored.

This conflicts with every other item of info I could gather, which suggests that the Linksys firmware does not support SNMP.

Was linksys support wrong as suspected?

    ???

Was it a dumb question or does nobody know the answer?

There isn't any SNMP daemon included in the Linksys firmware. If you need to use SNMP you have to include it yourself and compile it, or use a 3rd party firmware such as DD-WRT, Alchemy, Satori.
