So my new WMP54G works, it's just painfully slow. Ideas?

  1. I have a wireless network at home built on a D-Link 614 router (that's 802.11b). Upon building a new PC, I decided to just buy another PCI wireless card rather than transfer my aging D-Link PCI card from my old PC to the new one. That way I figured I could still grab some files off the old machine. The old D-Link PCI card worked flawlessly (though it never had much of a signal).

So I install the WMP54G in my new PC (Windows XP w/SP2, fresh install) and everything goes pretty smoothly. I was able to enter my 128 bit encryption and join the network with a very strong signal, much stronger than the old D-Link card even though the PC's are in the same location. Only trouble is, it's slow. Painfully slow. We're talking 1Kbps here. The icon in my taskbar however, says I'm connected at 11Mbps (sometimes only 5). I didn't initially notice the speed difference until I tried downloading some drivers for my graphics card and noticed it was going to take 4 hours to download 15MB. What's with the slow speed? I'm sure there's some setting somewhere I'm missing, right?

After googleing some info on this card and getting abysmal reviews, I'm close to stealing my old D-Link card out of the old PC...
