Some issues with WRT54G v2.2

I've got a little problem with this router, which is:
Whenever i play games, or be on the internet, I'm having disconnect/lag issues. This because windows (XP Home, SP2) reastablishes the wireless connection to the router, after xx mins it says: "Connection with ....". Quite annoying when you're in an online game, or need a large file to download and it disconnects you from internet for ~2 secs.

Now, I wanted to upgrade my firmware version in the hopes of this magicly dissapear. However, I only found out that there's not even support for my router? I've got the Linksys WRT54G v2.2, but under downloads, firmware etc there's no such version to be found? Also quite annoying.

So anyway, I was hoping to find the answer to what device firmware should I download, since the v2.2 isn't on the website (but other versions are). And wether or not the router is actually the problem for these internet disconnects and if there's actually a solution to this.
EDIT: Update, found the firmware on the US site, not on the Dutch one. This matters? The text's on router are already english anyway..

Thanks for your time reading this bookwork.
