my kids (hearing impaired) use a Sorenson VR100 set-top videophone to "talk" to their friends. Normally, you just put the vr100 in the dmz, but this apparently only works intermittently (far end can't see us) on the linksys. work around is port forwarding and disable wan block. Sorenson claims that pre-cisco versions of the WRT54G didn't have this problem....something in the NAT software. Any chance that one of the non-linksys firmwares might solve this problem?? Normally, I wouldn't have a prob with the port forwarding, but leaving the router open to pinging doesn't thrill me.

There's only 1 way to find out! I'd suggest you try something like the latest basic version (v22prefinal5) of DD-WRT and see how it goes.

go to the firewall in the router and do the following:

disable it and see if that works.

go to "block wan requestes" uncheck that. and see if it works.
