ssh hangs

When I make an ssh connection from my internal lan, through the wcg200 to a machine out on the internet, if I walk away for a while (a few minutes) when I come back and try to type something on I find that the connection is frozen and nothing appears on the terminal. If I keep typing I don't have this problem.

Does anyone know why it hangs and what I can do about it? I tried linksys tech support but they didn't seem that useful. They gave me instructions for a vpn, even though I told them I was just making a simple ssh connection (connecting to port 22 on a machine out in the internet from a randomly selected high numbered port on my machine).

    thanks for the help

I found a solution to my problem, though I still am not sure why I have this problem. Anyway, I found a patch for openssh which adds a heartbeat (a keepalive if you prefer) that will send a null packet to sshd every x seconds so the connection doesn't hang.
