    Hello.
I have a linksys wag200g, that used to be a dsl "provider" hooked up to a switch , which has 3 pcs conected. Lately i was using the wag200g as a wired/wirelles router between the switch and another router (wired) that provided a better conection. Just today i changed Isp's from DSL to cable and so now i have a cable modem(DSL's DSLAM too far...). The cable modem's (Thomson THG540) IP is 192.168.100.1 and the WAG's default ip, is of course 192.168.1.1. I am using woykterm's (spelling?) firmware because i want the static dhcp.
The computers are either connected , by wires , trough the switch, that goes to the WAG or wireless, directly to the WAG.
It goes without saying, i would like to have the WAG taking internet from the cable modem. So far I can access both device's webpages, and could even on occasion, have internet from the cable modem, but whenever that happens I cant acess either the cable modem's webpage or the router (cant remeber now...). Thus it seems to me that it is probably a problem related to attributed IP's and subnet masks.
I really need to ask you r opinion on this because on my new ISP's forum they say the WAG can't do this
Thank you for much needed help :)

Change cable modem's IP to 192.168.1.2
(or change WAG200G's IP to 192.168.100.2)

    Maybe this works

Tnak you for your reply. I ve tried what you said but luck.
From what i have been reading in the cable ISP's support forums the cable modem (Thomson THG540) connects to the first pc that it sees! In this case it is connected, with a normal cat5 ethernet cable to the WAG200g. I got it working at one point but withou being abel to acess the WAG's webpage.
What about the starting IP or the subnet mask? if i change the Wag's ip to 192.168.100.2 shouldnt the start IP be 192.168.100.1. Arghh im stumped:confused::confused:
Thing is in the said support forums there is someone else with exactly the same situation as me and their solution to this person's problem was : Put cable modem in a single pc then connect using ICS to other pcs :rolleyes::rolleyes:.
Of course having a router that shouldn't be necessary.
P.S. I cant deactivate DHCP on the Thomson but i dont think it is necessary it has none  ( i think :tongue::tongue::tongue:)
P.S.S : There is a similar post to mine on : http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=58716&highlight=wag200g with cable modem , but i im not sure how to do it. i dont have linux installed on my pc (had to take it off some time ago due to disk space restrictions, but i am by no means savvy in linux. if someone can explain how to do this using some other tools i would be very grateful

those commands had to be done on the modded wag (woytekm firmware), not on a linux box.

I have that firmware! and i even hafd to use linux to install it the first time ( if my meory serves) but now i dont/can't have linux on my pc. Details are foggy but i think i used putty or telnet ( it serves to say that i had siginifcant help from flatmates who were taking degrees in computer telemathics at the time)
Can anyon eplease guive me some pointers on this than you.

I tried using putty to send the router the commands

    wag200g:~#/usr/sbin/pppd-2.4.4 plugin /lib/rp-pppoe.so eth0 user $user password $pwd nodetach defaultroute usepeerdns ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local lcp-echo-interval 15 lcp-echo-failure 3 mru 1492 mtu 1492& > /dev/null
    wag200g:~#-sh: /usr/sbin/pppd-2.4.4: not found
    /usr/sbin/pppd-2.4.4: not found

But i think it didnt work :( any thoughts?

seems that you got a wrong path.

just search for it, here's some hint

cd (as windows) to change directory
    cd .. (go up)
    cd /toto/titi
    ls (like windows dir command)

    so start by doin':
    cd /usr/sbin
    ls

search for a ppd smthing, may be a newer version is inside so name changed.

    /usr/sbin/pppd plugin pppoe eth0 ....

  9. arturxsilva

    arturxsilva Networkin' Nut Member

    It did change :)
    Thank you for helping out
I tried sending something like this

    /usr/sbin/pppd plugin /lib/rp-pppoe.so eth0 user $user password $pwd nodetach defaultroute usepeerdns ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local lcp-echo-interval 15 lcp-echo-failure 3 mru 1492 mtu 1492& > /dev/null

(the user password fields between the $ char I switched with root and admin not sure if I did right) and pressed return.
It gave a a message saying that the plugin was loaded. Then I put the WAG in bridge mode (it was in pppoe) and rebooted. I'm not sure what I did wrong but it isn't working, because I can't access the cable modem's webpage and, obviously, no internet.

subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 by default.

WAG's IP address doesnt have to end with .1

You guys reply faster than i can!
    I tried this

    wag200g:~#/usr/sbin/pppd plugin pppoe eth0 user $user password $pwd nodetach defaultroute usepeerdns ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local lcp-echo-interval 15 lcp-echo-failure 3 mru 1492 mtu 1492& > /dev/null
    [1] - Done(127) /usr/sbin/pppd-2.4.4 plugin pppoe eth0 user ${user} password ${pwd} nodetach defaultroute usepeerdns ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local lcp-echo-interval 15 lcp-echo-failure 3 mru 1492 mtu 1492
    wag200g:~#Plugin pppoe loaded.
    PPPoE Plugin Initialized
    Plugin pppoe called.
    setting line discipline hook
    Sending PADI
    ses->filt->stag==NULLdiscipline

I then proceeded to putting the router in bridge mode and saving settings. But didnt work. :frown::frown::frown::frown:
Oh and by the way, with this command what ethernte port should i connect the modem to?(it has 4) because one of the other ports is used for the switch.

I think I'll try calling them to see if they can switch the modem with a dumber one. This cable modem is too smart it apparently sees how many computers i have on.:eek:

    1. Go to MySetup tab
    2. Enable MTD5 and rc.local script
    3. Reboot WAG
    4. Open notepad, paste the command in it, Click "Save as", select "All Files" as type, use "rc.local" as filename (write with quotes), save on your desktop
    4. Download WinSCP
    5. Connect to WAG: Username is root, File protocol is SCP.
    (Ignore "user groups" error)
    6. Double-click mnt and after mtd5
    7. Go to Desktop in left pane in WinSCP..
    8. Click rc.local file and then press F5 Copy
    9. Right click rc.local file in right pane select Properties check X (execute) permission for owner, click "OK" and then close WinSCP.
    10. Reboot WAG, now it should work..

Got your pm wlkn. So just for a quick summary.First i should put the WAG in bridge mode with everything in auto, DHCP turned ON, NAT turned on, WAG's def IP 192.168.1.1, right? After saving changes and rebooting I do the "script" and "put it " in the WAG via SCP. After following every step you mentioned to what ethernet port should i connect the modem(via ethernet cable)? Because at least one of the other 3 ports (WAG has 4) will connect to the switch. Thank you for your patience.

    wlkn Addicted to LI Member

I think, it doesnt matter which port you connect..

All 4 ports should connect to the switch since WAG200G has 6-port switch controller..

I have been trying to do as you have asked but i am afraid to no success

when i try to clickrc.loacl file and press f5 copy a window appears with a button labeled transfer settings . I change nothing and it fails

Cannot execute SCP to start transfer. Please make sure that SCP is installed on the server and path to it is included in PATH. You may also try SFTP instead of SCP.
Command failed with return code 127.

Oh and in the mysetup Tab i dont have enable rc.local, only this :

mount /dev/mtdblock/5 (check this if you want custom startup or firewall scripts)
Ah i have to update the firmware. :)

  16. arturxsilva

    arturxsilva Networkin' Nut Member

I updated the firmware to woykterm's latest firmware and followed ur instructions to the best of my ablities.
To make the file rc.local i sed the following line

    "/usr/sbin/pppd plugin pppoe eth0 user $user password $pwd nodetach defaultroute usepeerdns ipcp-accept-remote ipcp-accept-local lcp-echo-interval 15 lcp-echo-failure 3 mru 1492 mtu 1492& > /dev/null" (without the quotes obviously)

Should i change any parts of it?
To access the router via winscp my user is root and the password is admin.
What can i have missed? Any ideas??? Thank you
Shouldn't eth0 stand for the first physical eth device , or number 1 or number 4 in terms of ethernet ports? The reason i am asking this is because we are "making" a normal ethernet port into a WAN port (this feels strange to me because i had another router provifing wan traffic into the WAG before, but had dhcp and NAt handled by the "providing" router)

I had no success so far. To use internet i have to rehook the dsl modem. I wish to thank you all for your help, but again... i am stumped.

An update: I tried something i saw in Linksys website.
I dc'ed cable from cable modem to linksys router and connected it to directly to my pc. Reboot cable modem to get ip to my pc's nic mac address: success got internet.
Disconnect ethernet cable from my pc( a laptop) and connect cable to linksys router. After that i connected a cable that comes from the switch (which has uplink cable from linksys) and i still got internet even through the WAG and switch
however the other opcs in the network had no LAn or internet. At this point this seems to be an IP problem. What do you guys think?
Thank you for your patience and help arturxsilva

    1. This command works only with my firmware. You can get it here: http://preview.tinyurl.com/6lmsxm.

    2. You need to connect the cable modem with the Line-Port.

    3. There is a trick if you doesn't see the webgui: Connect the cable modem to an ethernet port (port 1-4). Connect the Line-Port with an ethernet port (port 1-4). Issue the command. After that you can access the webgui via http.

Line Port?? What is a line port? As far as I know the WAG has 4 ethernet port and wireless antenna. How to do this then.

    Because woytekm didn't upgrade pppd.

I think woytekm is working on a new version which includes linksys firmware 1.01.09. Let's wait and see :)

I can send you 0.10 candidate - some bugfixes along with the linksys version upped to the 1.01.09. If you have jtag working already, you can test this.

If you want to test 0.10 candidate, visit http://openwag200.sourceforge.net/?p=beta

    One question regarding 0.10 candidate.

Probably for most users it's better to have the stanndard firmware binary file that don't required the use of JTAG. It's better to use JTAG just only for router debricking

Whick DSP version and ppd version use the new 0.10 release?

I hope that it will use DSp 7.05 and pppd 2.4.4.

If you don't use it please upgrade it.
I can provide you some referebnce about GPL that use this version.

  25. wlkn

    wlkn Addicted to LI Member

We have never sent flash dump for testing, files are standard firmware file. JTAG is only required for recovery (if something goes wrong).
