Talisman :(

For a lark, I decided this morning to try Talisman. After an hour minutes, I removed it and went back to Tomato.

UGH is all I can say!

It's all SO like the original Linksys interface.

Started out with my having entered the WAN MAC address into Sveasoft's download interface so of course, I was unable to save any config changes! Redownloaded after entering the LAN MAC address and reflashed.

It also seemed that after several of the config changes a full restart was needed.

I'm back to the Vegetable (or, do I mean Fruit) ;)

    Good man :D

I tried a free version of Talisman years ago before Sveasoft firmwares were made free, and it was pure garbage... I was actually considering trying it again for a lark as well, but now I don't have to! Good to know that Sveasoft is still useless.

No, the Sveasoft firmwares aren't 'garbage'. They do some things other firmwares don't do yet, or do them differently. Mesh is a strength of theirs, as is their Hotspot configuration.

However Sveasoft isn't as elegant as the Tomato interface. Also there's a consistent problem with over-promising & under-delivering (features have taken years from announcement to delivery, documentation is never delivered, things like 'packages' are promoted then abandoned, etc.)

I don't wish them ill, but I do regret their increasingly closed nature. That & the ongoing delusional delivery dates finally made me walk away.

X-WRT is the only firmware I would try on "a lark".
But every WRT54G(S) I have access to has Tomato loaded on it.

I stuck it out for quite a while and actually contributed. The firmware was never stable and any suggestion of poor quality was meet with flames and bans from the owner. I left due to both. The whole thing is run like a childs club.
