The Best WRT54G firmware...?

What is the best firmware for the WRT54G v3 with current firmware version 3.03.6? I don’t have any needs for a VPN or anything fancy at the moment, otherwise it would be obvious that I would have to use some third party firmware. My question is whether these other firmware are really any more secure and reliable that the Linksys firmware. Do these third party vendors have better bandwidth control, stability and security? If so which ones are the best?

Stability? not always, they intraduce new features that maybe buggy.

Security? WPA2 is supported in the new beta firmware from Linksys. (see downloads)

Bandwidth, yes. 3rd party like sveasoft, ddwrt and openwrt have better QoS

But sveasoft and ddwrt currently contain bugs that reduce wireless throughput to a about 1/3 the offical firmware.

If you are looking for more wired features, QoS in sveasoft, ddwrt is amazing.

Well, this is not exactly a bug. More features (like QOS) -> more load on the router's cpu -> reduced throughput. I guess there is not much that can be done to improve this situation considerably.

And in additon to that, current versions of the - binary only - broadcom driver are slower, than older versions. Also no way to fix/change this.
