Ok, reading around I see that I should have set the cpu_overdrive=1 on my router to fix the daily reboots, but no matter.. recently after changing some QoS settings my router randomly shut off and now when it comes back on the power light never stops blinking and no computer can access anything. What did I do, is it fixable, do I have a paperweight now?

Alright I tried de-bricking it and it is confirmed dead. Some anomaly with the components inside too -- one of the two "black boxes" as I'll call them is bulging and smells funny, never a good sign for an electronic device. See here --

I was very lucky to find a WRT54GS v 1.0 (S/N CGN1xxxx) in the farthest back shelf of Wal-Mart, and for cheaper than Best Buy wanted for a WRT54Gv5 (or are they v6 or v7 now? serial number CDFDxxxx).

I'd guess that you now have a pretty blue brick....

This is why I never run the xmit levels higher than what I need. more power = hot and smelly with no added benefit.

BTW, is there a way to determine the version from an unopened box? I see them for cheap sometimes but hesitate since I can't be sure what version I'll get and I have no desire to return it.
