TinyPEAP Beta 2 Release Notes (03/31/05)

It has been quite a while since our first beta release, but I ensure you that the time was not lost. New features have been added so you can easily deploy a wireless network with enterprise level security. For more information and downloads, please visit http://www.tinyPEAP.com .

    New features:

•Certificate Management – Create personalized self signed certificates for use with tinyPEAP easily with just the click of a button. After creation, you can deploy the root certificate to your client machines by connecting them to the wired LAN, pointing your browser to http://*ip_of_router*/PEAP , and clicking download. This page does not require admin rights on the router.

•Full multiple access point support – Have one tinyPEAP server do authentication for multiple access points. You can allow this by turning off embedded mode in tinyPEAP advanced settings. Also, you may change your RADIUS password for extra security.

NOTE: This firmware will not work on WRT54G v2.2 or WRT54GS v1.1

would there be any chance you could make available the firmware? clicking on the firmware download gives me a "page not found" error.

looks like some of your ppages have gone.

send the files to me if you like. i can host here

I just downloaded the new firmware. I'm having a problem with it. I've gone through the standard resets before and after flashing this firmware. I'm trying to re-add the usernames/passwords in the "tinypeap" tab and they don't seem to be taking. I click the "Add" button to add the user and the screen refreshes but there is no user names in the list to delete. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug. Beta1 didn't do this to me so I'm quite puzzled. If it makes any difference, I haven't done anything regarding the root certificate or PEAP certificate. I didn't implement certificates with Beta1 for simplicity purposes so I don't know if I'm causing something to happen by not dealing with certificates this time around.

I've noticed that the router does not render the usernames occasionally,
so you may be experiencing that.
Refreshing ususally works, but try re-starting the router again.

If the problem persisits, SSH into the router, and post the output of
    'cat /tmp/peapd/peapusers'.

When I type in "cat /tmp/peapd/peapusers". It responds that there is "no such file or directory".

I don't know if it makes a difference or not but when I flash back to Beta1 all my usernames are there again and everything works fine.

Try reboot your router. SSH should start working.

I just placed updated version on the web.
Try that one and see if it works.

I would recommend running 'Factory Defaults' to ensure
that no bad data is left in your nvram.

now i can add user. But still, if i add user then if someone wants to connect with wifi he can connect directly. There is nothing where he can put username and password. Nobody ask password and username from him.

Thank you. I will try the new firmware today. I have a question though. Whenever I do the reset to factory defaults. I can switch firmwares (linksys, satori, beta1, etc) and whenever I go back to Beta1 the usernames are always there. I thought a reset was supposed to wipe all that stuff out? The reset always resets my settings, but it seems like the usernames are always there no matter what I do. I have a WRT54G v2 and I usually reset through the web interface.

I'm having hard time trying to understand the meaning of your question.
Are you talking about how Windows remembers peap user credential
and does not prompt for username/password once he had a successful login?

    > FDM
Factory default setting calls a custom function called 'nvram_unset' internally.
Within this function, the attributes to be unset are specifically defined.
I was overlooking this one, and that is why peap users never dissapeared. :-p

i thought if i put username and password then if someone wants to use wifi new window will open and ask username and password. But they just can login, nothing is asked from them.

Any plans for a firmware version of tinypeap that supports WRT54G version 2.2?

    win32 version

Any plans for the win32 version of beta2?

The win32 version really doesnt need a beta 2 since a lot of the enhancements simply exposing functionality through the GUI. The win32 version of course, does not have a GUI and thus most of the functionality is there already. However, i suppose a tool to help generate your Certs easier than learning how to use openssl.exe properly may be beneficial. I know the documentation for the win32 version is severely lacking, but it was

The beta1 of the Win32 had problems with certificates, so that certificates were not validated. This should be solved in a next release. Are they solved now?
If yes, where can i get this version?

I've tried out v2.12 and the users are showing up now. Thank you for that fix. I have another question though.

With Beta1 I don't use certificates at all. I just simply use the Username/Password for users to be able to get on. It's very simple and easy for me and I really don't have any desire to use certificates.

I can't get any of my machines to get on with this scenario with v2.12
I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if you have to use certificates.....I'm kind of lost right now and have fallen back to beta1 because of this issue. Unfortunately keeping the network up for others is a priority so I will have to stick with beta1 for now and can only test sporadically so I can limit downtime.

jbrbv: You can, if you are so inclined, create proper certificates and use them with the win32 version. We will probably at the least create better certs (windows compatible) to include in the zip file.

FDM80: You should be able to do this scenario by just telling windows to not check the cert as you did before. You should however, at least create the cert so users have that option. If your problem persists, start a new thread and we will work on it.

At the moment, we don't have any clear idea of when we'll start working on WRT54G 2.2 or WRT54GS 1.1.

This is mainly due to that fact that we want to spend our time enhancing
the tinyPEAP's functionality rather than the firmware development.
We do, however, consider this problem seriously and try to resolve it asap.

    Does TinyPEAP work on WAP54G?

Hi I'm a bit confused...can I install TinyPEAP to a Linksys WAP54G ver2? If so do I use the Linksys GUI (Help page) to upload the software? I have tried several times and it fails. I have even downloaded a "tftp" executable and used the command line which comes back with a small gui asking for the IP, password and what file. Is there a particular extension the file is supposed to have? HELP

Cannot get WRT54GSv4 with firmware v1.05.2 TinyPeap to work

I have bought a Linksys AP model WRT54GSV4 with firmware v1.05.2 specifically to get TinyPeapto work. I have downloaded the tinypeap v2.13 gs and followed the directions to upload it to the AP and it keeps giving the "Wrong Code Pattern" error. I have tried tftp or web.
What am I doing wrong or is my version in-compatible with TinyPeap.

    Thank you for your help.
