To anyone with the WRT54G / WRT54GL...

I was unsure which forum to post this in...

Recently I purchased the WRT54G router, and ended up getting the v5. It's not such a problem, it's been pretty stable recently. But whenever I download on Bittorrent, the internet slows to a halt. The problem usually occurs once there are about 100 connections.

I can assure you the problem is the router:
    - When I am directly connected to the cable modem, i can have close to 1000 connections with 400k+ download speeds, and I can still browse the web near full speed.
    - My max upload speed in Bittorrent is at 20k, while the cable internet can handle about 50k max.
    - Under QoS settings, I have tried setting the priority to 'highest' for ports 80 and 443 (HTML), and things are still extremely slow.

So at the moment, I am considering returning this router for the WRT54GL instead. But for anyone with an older version of the WRT54G or the WRT54GL, I want to ask: Can you download from Bittorrent, or just have hundreds of connections open at once while experiencing little to no speed decrease?

    Thanks to all who reply.

The WRT54GL is the WRT54G V4 with a different model number. With the stock firmware, you will still have problems, but you can load aftermarket firmware to fix the problems.

I have a WRT54G V4 myself, and it took HyperWRT Tofu without the slightest problems. Tofu already includes a fix for the BitTorrent issue.
