That is the question. For I have a problem, with the WRT54G v6.0, the router is in my room, clear across the house. I Got a computer with the WMP54G v4.1 but its sittin in a cubbyhole. Of course the signal is weak and the computer keeps getting kicked off the net. Should I:

    Get a range extender?
Purchase high gain antennas for the router?
Purchase a better antenna for the card (and need one that I can put on the desk so that it can get a much better signal).

how far is the distance from the router to adapter?

The repeater will cut in half your transfer rate. Just add directional antenna (6 db=4 times more powerfull signal).

Ya know I've never really measured the true distance between the router and the computer but what I did was I took the computer out of the cubbyhole and pointed the antenna towards the general direction of the router (which is in another room). The signal increased greatly so I ordered this:

    The Linksys AS1SMA Antenna Stand

That HOPEFULLY should boost it (I know the signal will technically drop because it has to go through that long cord but anythings better than the antenna itself in a cubbyhole!

I bought a 10dBi high gain antenna with a 100cm extension cord and stand for my WMP54G at roughly the same price as this antenna stand
