Hmm Strange. I used connection logging inbound/outbound and choosed Both and turn it back to "standard setting"
After that it stop working. I update over old 7482 buld without nvram clean, maby that caused this.

When somebody with an E4200, who has sufficient experience to do so, integrates the wireless driver into the firmware - is the obvious answer. And, of course, if they feel like doing so  And if they wish to share it with others. And so on ...

EDIT: Look at release 0485-BETA Sept 27 2011

Hi! Ok I can give new feedback now as I installed 1.28.7628.1 today.

I confirm that the ping spike issue in 7627 is gone now.

My observation about how it writes to wl and wl0 remains a valid bug imho. Prior to installing I made sure to erase nvram, installed it, then erased nvram again with through, and again with default. (I wanted to compare the two sets of settings, very little difference really).

As shipped, 7628.1 comes with a transmit power of 150 (too much imho) and a country of SG. In the web interface if you change it to a setting you like, and then view the variables it shows:

    nvram set wl0_txpwr="19"
    nvram set wl_txpwr="150"

So I manually adjusted the second one to 19 as I am not that far from the router and it's not a congested area.

The same problem exists with country code, and probably other items using wl as well like bluetooth coexistence. When changing the country code to CA from SG and reviewing it what was visible was:

    nvram set wl0_country="CA"
    nvram set wl0_country_code="CA"
    nvram set wl_country_code="SG"

To fix this I had to change one and add one:

    nvram set wl_country_code="CA"
    nvram set wl_country="CA"

One observation I made is that upnp does not work by default when you turn it on and this will seemingly trip people up.. it seems logical to click on 'enable upnp'. But this is not all you need to do. You _ALSO_ need to click on "listen on LAN" even if you're connected via wifi before upnp will work properly. This is a change from prior behavior I think but it's not a clearly obvious solution.

    Thanks!

This is not a "bug" as such. It is a something that is a legacy from generations of Broadcom devices that have been used now and in the past. The wireless drivers are closed-source modules and we do not have proper information on what many of these settings do or if they are necessary.

There is in fact a huge list of nvram settings that have been included in default.c for a long time. Many of these are legacy settings and most do not seem to be used by modern tomato builds. (wl nvram settings are converted to the appropriate interface (such as wl0) by the firmware on bootup.) However, for someone to go through them and figure out which ones can safely be deleted is a long, time consuming process. If that was done the file can probably no longer be used across a wide range of builds and platforms.

    Does that matter?

    Is it relevant any more?

    Who has done the groundwork?

Do we know for a fact that some of the "wl" settings aren't necessary for some reason that has long been forgotten?

Do we know for a fact that some of these "legacy" settings aren't actually setting some parameter in the newer wireless drivers that we shouldn't be changing?

What will happen if we don't set them? Anything? Nothing?

Who is going to bite the bullet and delete them, and have to answer hundreds of silly questions in the forums if something goes wrong, the build is unstable, or it somehow upsets someone's pet theory?

Here, for example, are the wireless settings that were written to NVRAM by Tomato 1.28.7628.1 on bootup (by the wireless driver?) IF there are NO wl settings at all set by default.c (and some wl settings used by interface setup etc. are necessary of course, so you can't take this as gospel). There aren't all that many.

Are all of the wl settings used, and converted to wl0 by the firmware? Or are they (or some of them) altogether unneeded?

All normal wireless settings are wl0 for this wireless driver on this build. It may not be so on other builds. In the past, there have been many instances of forum posters changing parameters of wl when it should have been wl0 - and so on. But few people listened and a few more nonsensical myths were born .... actually it is rather confusing.

The nvram defaults are really of concern to developers who want to change something in their build, normally users need not play with the settings, the Web GUI will change only the ones that are necessary.

    nvram set wl0_bss_maxassoc="128"
    nvram set wl0.1_hwaddr="02:90:4C:5F:00:2B"
    nvram set wl0_wme="on"
    nvram set wl0_leddc="0x640000"
    nvram set wl_hwaddr=""
    nvram set wl0_phytypes="g"
    nvram set wl0gpio0="136"
    nvram set wl0_radioids="BCM2050"
    nvram set wl0_country_code="US"
    nvram set wl0gpio2="0"
    nvram set wl0.3_hwaddr="02:90:4C:5F:00:29"
    nvram set wl0id="0x4320"
    nvram set wl0_ifname="eth1"
    nvram set wl_country_code="US"
    nvram set wl0.2_hwaddr="02:90:4C:5F:00:28"
    nvram set wl0_hwaddr="00:90:4C:5F:00:2A"
    nvram set wl0_unit="0"
    nvram set wl0_phytype="g"
    nvram set wl0_corerev="9"
    nvram set wl0gpio3="0"
    nvram set wl_ifname="eth1"

    Hi,

I'm not sure if this is the right place for a bug report, but here is my tale anyway.

My old WRT54G with DD-WRT blew up a few days ago, so I bought the Asus RT-N12 with the intention of putting a Toastman Tomato version on.
Installation went ok (after quite a search for the right installation instructions; it's not that obvious to the uninitialised and forums are often contradictory).

    So, i installed tomato-K26-1.28.7483MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN.trx

    Here is the problem:

I have the Asus RT-N12 with tomato cascaded (don't ask why) behind a Thomson/Alcatel speedtouch 780WL modem/router, with DHCP enabled.
If I set tomato to recieve his network info via DHCP it does not get a Gateway. Gateway will be 0.0.0.0
In contrast, connecting a laptop to the same Speedtouch will yield a correct gateway.

Static assignment works, but that's not what I wanted.

Also, I'm not sure about the userbase you're targetting, but (coming from DD-WRT) I was a bit surprised to find no explanations or help about all the options in the web interface. Perhaps a link to a web page or something here and there? :)

Nice project. Looking forward to trying more.
    Thanks.

Hi guys i have a simple question, Which Toastman version should i use for my
    Linksys WRT54G v2.2 ?

I would like a version with IP traffic monitoring thats let's me see on a graph all the computers on
the network with their ip address and how much bandwidth they are using.

    thanks!

Hi, i installed the ND-1.28.7628.1-Toastman-Std on my WRT54G router and the IP Traffic sections does'nt seem to be working... Is there something to enable in order to make it work? or am i just using the wrong firmware and i should change for another version?

    thanks.

Did you 'click' the name of the client in the Bandwidth> Client Monitor to see the bandwidth status? Did you enable Bandwidth Monitor to each client in the DHCP/ARP/BW tab?

thanks for the quick reply Toink, so i did what you said, i enabled all those settings and still no graph in the iptraffic area. I even have a screenshot for you. Maybe i should put the 128.7628 instead of 128.7628.1

Hi T, yeah i enabled it in admin too. for some reason i am not getting the results like that earlier post in this forum where we can clearly see a screenshot of the graphic and all the IP users connected to the router and individual graphic of their internet usage. weird...

the post with the screenshot of the graph i would like to see is post #210

I'm using Tomato Firmware v1.28.7628 -Toastman ND Std on a WRT54GL.
I found i had to manually include the list of static IPs I wanted monitored for the graphs to show. (Administration -> IP Traffic Monitoring)

Is anyone else losing their Per IP history after a reboot?
My Bandwidth stat history reloads, but the Per IP history starts all over again.
I can confirm that I'm saving the both sets of data history on CIF1.

I can't see your pics... It's working on both my WRT54GS v1.1 and WL-520GU. Using the EXT version though...

Silly question: Did you select the IP with an on going connection? Once you select, that IP is highlighted. See pic below as example:

yes i did all these things, enabling traffic per ip in dhcp and enabling web usage in monitoring.
Here is the screenshot of what i get when i go in ip traffic page.
    What is EXT version ?
as you can see the traffic page is blank with no activity.

Dino - You will probably have to use the K2.4 builds for that router...

Tom... You can still download the theme from the GIT repo (it's http accessible), then you can choose a "custom" theme in the GUI...

EDIT: What browser are you using? I don't think the graphs will show in IE... YOu have to use Firefox, Chrome, or others...

  37. Toink

The graphs works well in IE. I use IE9 exclusively due to my nature of work. Dino4D, do you have Adobe SVG Viewer installed? You should try to install it for the graphs to work.

I looked in the GIT HUB for the project and I couldn't find the theme CSS file. The Cisco theme actually looks like a theme and not like the others that are just color variations of the the other themes which IMO is just a waste. Blue is just Cyan (and Brown, Black, Olive, etc) but with a different color, big deal!

The Cisco theme actually looks like it was designed to look good. It has borders, colors, etc. It had looks just like the USBBlue theme. The others, ehhh... horrible. Like something that was thrown together with no thoughts to what it will look like. Maybe I'm too critical of how things look.

Which is kind of funny, when it comes to design I have no creativity at all. The things I make are utilitarian, bland, functional but without design.

Thanks EOC_Jason. I put the CSS file onto one of my computers with file sharing enabled, specifically one that I had CIFS1 pointed to and put a bunch of commands in my INIT functions to copy the files over to the router from the share. Set my theme and now I'm pleased.

I'm using v1.28.7483 on a E3000. I really like the new IP filters in the QOS View Details screen, but they don't stick. Is there a way to have the router remember the filters I added?

The reason I ask is that the router will display it's own DNS requests in the View Details screen (triggered by click IP addresses on that screen). I can filter these out by excluding either the DNS servers or the WAN ip address, but I have to do that every time I reload the page.

djroby19 - It's always wise to erase after any update. But recent build have huge changes, so it's usually pretty much necessary. You can use this method to reconfigure:

    http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showpost.php?p=362345&postcount=221

kthaddock - thanks. That may be useful.

In the meantime please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK.

Please ERASE NVRAM and reconfigure when you upgrade!

Hi Toastman, thanks for all your hard work on this firmware! I've been loving every little thing about it :)

I have a small issue that one of the previous posters (Dino4D) has had; it is not showing up graphs on the IPTraffic pages.
A reboot will fix it (graphs show up and all that) but it just suddenly disappears again after a short while, even when I don't touch any settings at all.
It seems that when the graphs aren't showing, the data isn't being saved either. I have checked that it is indeed enabled so that can't be it.

I have attached a log of my router (WRT54GL w/ 1.28.7628.1 ND STD):
    http://pastebin.com/u5hMh84X

Please let me know if you need any other info, I will provide it as soon as I can,
Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the info, buckle. All of it is being looked at and pondered over :)

djroby19, sorry, I didn't reply because I never had the problem myself, and nothing useful to say. Now you have posted a probable fix, it is available for others to try, and if we see anyone else with the same issue, rest assured he'll be pointed in your direction :D

Now, some interesting and welcome news. Teddy Bear has posted a LOT of updates and changes to the git repository, there is a hint that there may be a new "official" tomatoUSB build soon. Thanks Teddy!!

    Looks like there's now support for F7D3301, F7D3302, F7D4302, F5D8235v3

The code posted to git is of course experimental, there's no official build containing these commits. However, Teddy Bear's work is always pretty well spot on, and I've been going through it carefully and see no reason not to give it a test. I've been running it online with around 110 user base for 2 days and it seems stable. So I thought I'd post a build with the mods included.

Look for Toastman-RT version 7485-BETA MIPSR2 K26. Please accept that it is based on 1.28.7484-BETA code and be patient waiting for any bugfixes ;) In the meantime please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK.

Now - also very interesting, there is a new RT-N branch from Teddy Bear. It incorporates a newer wireless driver - 5.100.138.9 . It appears stable on my E3000 and RT-N16's. Since we'd all like to test it and see what it does, I'm also posting this as a BETA. Again, if it doesn't do what you expected, be patient. I hope I've edited everything OK, but quite possibly I've made some errors.

ANy E4200 users who wish to try it please report back on your findings.

Again, many thanks to Fedor for posting these updates, we greatly appreciate it!

    Have fun!

    First BUGs :)
    v1.28.7485 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-BETA K26 USB VPN
    1. Basic - Network
When I click on the Save button - nothing happens - can not save any networks parameters.

    2. Basic - Network - All Wi-Fi security parameters available on the first page regardless security type which you choose.

    Flashed v1.28.7485 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-BETA K26 USB VPN-.trx onto a WNR3500l and cleared NVRAM on flash.

    The following bugs were found:

    1) The WAN is unable to be configured. The screen shows nothing between WAN and LAN on the basic network screen.

    2) Wireless settings: regardless of the security settings, it shows you the WEP configuration submenu. Also, even with the wireless selected to G only, it displays the 20/40 mhz bandwidth as well as the upper/lower controls. Normally those are ghosted out when they are non-valid.

I had to flash back to the 7483 version due to the non-functional WAN setting.

Wow, I see it, I've totally screwed up while editing that page. Now fixed. I removed the "single-link MLPPP" feature to quickly fix this issue. Uploaded ... 7485.2 RT and 0485.2 RT-N version

[ Don't forget these BETA-TEST builds still have a bug in the larger images, Webmon isn't working, some iptables error messages, some websites won't load and hang. Try a smaller image, the no-USB variety is fine, the USB-Lite seems fine. In the meantime please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK. ]

kthaddock - I don't know where that build with the trailing "-" came from. Looks the same to me. Must be a mistake in the makefile, but I didn't spot it with a quick look.

    EDIT - FIXED.

djroby, do you have 5GHz working, do you know?

0485 is the RT-N version with the newer wireless driver (5.100.138.9) that supports the E4200.

and in Toastman 7483 is, 5.10.147.0.

I'm loading 1.28.0485.1 and webmon have some issue in iptables, but you know that.

    Code:
    :monitor - [0:0]
    -A FORWARD -o vlan2 -j monitor
    -A monitor -p tcp -m webmon --max_domains 300 --max_searches 300 --domain_load_file /var/webmon/domain --search_load_file /var/webmon/search -j RETURN
    :wanin - [0:0]
    :wanout - [0:0]
    -A FORWARD -m state --state RELATED,ESTABLISHED -j ACCEPT
    -A FORWARD -i vlan2 -j wanin
    -A FORWARD -o vlan2 -j wanout
    -A FORWARD -i br0 -o vlan2 -j ACCEPT
    :monitor - [0:0]
    -A FORWARD -o vlan2 -j monitor
    -A monitor -p tcp -m webmon --max_domains 300 --max_searches 300 --domain_load_file /var/webmon/domain --search_load_file /var/webmon/search -j RETURN

    and still missing

    Code:
    --search_load_file /var/webmon/search
Realtime graf doesn't show right speed, show more speed than used.
    I'm missing Wan(vlan2), WL(Eth1), br0, eth0 and vlan1 in graf.

Use smaller build and see if things are OK. USB-Lite is OK. All of these little problems are quite probably all due to the same cause.

Wan(vlan2), WL(Eth1), br0, eth0 and vlan1 in graph. Which graph? Everything shows correctly here.

    From the source code notes:

BCM SDK: driver "downgrade" ver. 5.10.142.0: shared sources

This version of SDK and wireless driver seems to work better
with Belkin "Play" routers. Also, it makes 5GHz wireless survey to work.
It's not so much of a downgrade since the SDK sources are very close,
and the version number is just 5 minors behind.

    I don't have them only 4 computer and 192,168,2,1.
    This are not displayed: Wan(vlan2), WL(Eth1), br0, eth0 and vlan1 in graph.

Do you have them, I upgarde from shibbys 075-aio with nvram erase before and after flashing.
They should be in "bandwitdh", "real time" Build 1.28.0485.1-beta

Now I'm tempted to rip that protective film off my brand new E4200 box and flash it with your build... BUT I really have to finish up with my current connection - Oh, the anticipation is killing me... Aaargh!

    Toast, what's changed in 0458.1/7458.1 to 0458.2/7458.2?

  96. Toastman

Just a few cosmetics, makefile change, nothing too startling. Removed some unnecessary code. Made some of the QOS setup a bit clearer.

Maybe don't bother with the big builds until the bug is sorted out. OR - In the meantime please disable WEBMON if it isn't working, and everything else will then be OK.

Using tomato-ND-1.28.7626.1-Toastman-VLAN-Std i think there is some bug with port forwarding. As i'm not sure what is bugged i will describe issue as precisely as i can.

    My lan looks like: DSL -> modem-router (WAG120N - 192.168.0.1) -> WRT54GL ("Static IP" mode - 192.168.0.100, 192.168.1.1) -> my computer (192.168.1.100).

    I'm verifying ports with PFPortChecker.
On WAG i forwarded Warcraft 3 port (6112) to 192.168.0.100, but then does not matter what i try to do (DMZ/PF/Trigger, Firewall settings, reset to defaults/erase nvram) WRT is blocking connection giving following message in log:
    Code:
    Sep 27 19:33:59 unknown user.warn kernel: DROP IN=vlan1 OUT= MAC=00:1d:7e:e3:92:e5:98:fc:11:9c:99:07:08:00:45:00:00:3c SRC=63.168.21.164 DST=192.168.0.100 LEN=60 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=51 ID=50144 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=33882 DPT=6112 SEQ=179846352 ACK=0 WINDOW=5840 RES=0x00
When i installed previous version - tomato-ND-1.28.7625-Toastman-ND-Std everything works fine without touching WAG settings.

Running tomato-K26USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.7485.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-BETA-VPN-NOCAT on two E3000s and one 4200. Overall everything appears stable. The 5Ghz on the 4200 is not available. Thanks for all you do!

I think it's the 0485.2 BETA Build that should have the 5GHz radio working...

EDIT: Ok, I asked a friend to test build 0485.2 BETA build on his E4200, and he confirmed he's got dual band radios simultaneously working! Will try to flash mine as soon as I'm done with a pile of work.... Can't wait!!
