Agree with "jsmiddleton4" , each new Toastman firmware i tested up to 7495.2 on my rt-n16 and finally stay with Tomato Firmware v1.28.7493 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT K26 USB Ext , fast and reliable.
Just upgraded to 1.28.7495.2 and everything works fine, but there are still some bugs I think I should report: Router: Linksys E4200v1 Browser: Safari 5.1.3 on Mac OS X 10.7.3 - Device List: - My MacBook Pro name (is set and should be the same as in AirDrop) is not shown, but my sisters' Windows 7 Laptop is shown- When you click on [wfilter] and there is no name filled in next to a MAC-Address (e.g. my MacBooks' MAC-Address is shown), it won't be set in the MAC-Address field. Again, my sisters' MAC-Address will get filled in and the name, too. See the following screenshots: When you click [wfilter] Result: no MAC-Address is taken over when no name is set - Web Usage: When I hover a host/website, it gets blank (Domain Name only, IP was me): - Advanced Wireless: This entry (eth1) is not saved in the cfg.-file and I always have to set it manually, when it is reset to EUROPEAN UNION (from Germany): eth2 (5GHz-Band) is set to Germany, like saved in cfg.-file. I hope, you can reproduce these issues and maybe fix all of them in the next minor release.
I noticed that when you use the web monitor tool if you select "show upto ___ entries" it doesnt provide page numbers to scroll through. so if i have 50 entries but only want to see 10 per page I only get the latest 10 shown but no way to see the rest unless I select show all 300 entries?
On the IP Traffic Monitoring Admin page I backed up the cstats file under 1.28.7495. I then upgraded to 1.28.7495.2 and tried to restore the backup I just made and got an "Error reading file" error. Is this supposed to work?
I realize that there may be more stable build for certain features. If objective, verifable, REPEATABLE feedback is not provided to the devs, then things can not be fixed/tweaked/corrected. If I can not live with a build, I simply flash back to one that I CAN live with.
Hi Toastman, Firmware tomato-K26USB-1.28.0495.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-N-VPN.trx on RT-N66U Bnadwidth in Real-Time is 4450 Kbit/s that is right but in IP-Traffic is 8900 Kbit/s that is not ok.
Sorry for the slightly off topic request - I'm looking for the E3000 flavour of what I'm currently running on my RT-N16. Can't seem to find it on Tostman's 4shared. All help appreciated. Here is the RT-N16 version (Note its vlan) - Tomato Firmware v1.28.4493 MIPSR2-Toastman-VLAN-RT K26 USB VPN And while I'm here - was looking at Teaman's google page http://code.google.com/p/tomato-sdhc-vlan/wiki/MultiSSIDHOWTOForE3000#MultiSSID_HOWTO_for_E3000 Can you let me know what version of Toastman has the "Virtual Wireless" option in the Advanced section? Thanks again Corncrake
Just had a quick question about the E3000 stability. I was thinking of buying one of these because of the 2.4/5 Ghz option, but don't have it yet. From experiences others have had, is it best to just stick with the newer 1.28.7495 RT releases or have the RT-N Beta releases (allowing simultaneous 2.4/5 Ghz) been stable enough to give a try? Was just curious, thanks.
Is it possible for someone to take a look at the code and see if there is or is not a firmware level problem with ethernet bridge mode slave not being able to communicate with an NTP server?
Tried disabling IP Traffic on 7495.2, because I were curious about the effect CPU usage. It appears this makes no difference at all. With traffic at +/- 2MB/s my 2000e still uses +/- 45% sirq. So I'm wondering where all the resources are going to? Is it all in the routing? Why is vanilla Tomato or the Linksys fw so much lighter?
hey toastman (or others) - i have a couple new in the box RT-N16's (newer package style). i tried to load 3 different toast versions (std, ext, lite) of a few different releases (1.28.7495.3, 1.28.7495.2, etc) and none would work on either N16. i tried the latest OLEG and it worked the first time on both. i then tried to load the toastman firmware after OLEG was installed and still, would not take! i've installed this on dozens and dozens of routers and have never had a problem, but tonight it won't install no matter what i do???? anybody have any clue what is going on?
Thanks everyone for the feedback. I would like to know if i can install packages using opkg command to this firmware. It would be a great feature if we can use openwrt repository for installing packages
I recently installed straight from stock, MFG 2011, using basically this procedure but modified for OS X: http://tomatousb.org/tut:installing-on-asus-routers-rt-n16-etc-in-linux
Hi,i have installed tomato-K26USB-1.28.0495.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-N-VPN.trx and the previous version on RT-N66U.With Bandwitch Limiter when i activate this reboot my router and i go to flash again. It's my error or bug? Tnk's for this fantastic firmware! Sorry for my bad english
Yes,i reset in two times the Nvram and wait for 5 minutes This firmware it's correct for RT-N66U? http://www.4shared.com/file/Emy-fcIq/tomato-K26USB-12804953MIPSR2-T.html? Tnk's
Well, it turns out to be a hardware instability problem with the WNR3500v2. I had it sitting in a 35°C closet for 1.5 years and now it can't go a day without rebooting on any firmware (downclocking does not help). Fine, I want to use it purely for WDS repeating now, but: Sometimes WDS won't reconnect after either 1 of 2 routers rebooted. The other one has to be rebooted as well in order for them to synch up. Maybe you could look into this?
i had to use the linksys restore utility but finally got them pushed through. this was the first time it wouldn't take through the GUI. odd.
OK. Should I fill in all parameters by hand after NVRAM reset or I can resotre it with Restore Configuration and .cfg file ? It's so long put in again IP's, ports forwardig, MAC addresses etc. Thank you.
May I know which file should I use for WRT610n v2? RT-N release? Secondly, would like to understand if the VLAN tagging support 3 digit - similar to this http://unifi.athena.my (saw somewhere around the forum earlier, that it is not supported back then, ensure if it already supported by now)
The problem of rebbot on my Asus RT-N66U is for use this servicehttps://www.vpntunnel.se/ I use this program for connect: When activate the QoS i have this log in the program: Any suggestion to set the QoS?
@toastman Could you please apply commit UDPxy: fixed symlink for udpxrec (7be0064a27f18ef3b636f3d3b58d2036cc01ccea) in the next K24 IPT-ND builds? Thanks.
Anyone? i tried later versions also, no good. Anything prior to 1.28.7628 is fine, did something change after that?
I tried the latest ND 04... versions. Still have old problem with WDS mode and it not reporting router to router speeds directly or it is not connecting at highest speeds. Not sure which it is.
Hi! Could you explain why you use RT instead RT-N version of firmware? The 5GHz band is present in RT version? If Yes... what a diferences between RT and RT-N versions? Now I'm using Tomato Firmware v1.28.0495 MIPSR2-Toastman-VLAN-RT-N K26 USB VPN version with my RT-N66U. It really works very good. Thank you.
Tomato Firmware v1.28.0495 MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-N K26 USB VPN - Linux kernel 2.6.22.19 and Broadcom Wireless Driver 5.100.138.9 updates All good so far on E4200 Both my OpenVPN and PPTP(optware) servers working fine. Thanks Toastman.
My mistake, i use tomato-K26USB-1.28.0495.3MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-N-VPN.trx and no tomato-K26USB-1.28.7495.3MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN.trx. Thanks ArCan.

Media Server - scan status not showing correctly and verbose logging for MiniDLNA. Hi Toastman, thanks for the awesome firmware. I'm using a RT-N16 with tomato-K26USB-1.28.7495.2MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-VPN.trx. I have found on several occasions that MiniDLNA has crashed while doing a scan but the Tomato GUI still shows "scan in progress". After having a look around I realize I can tell it has crashed when: - CPU usage drops close to zero (MiniDLNA runs the CPU at 100% when doing a scan), or - The database stops growing, or - It shows in the system log that DLNA was terminated due to a memory issue As a bit of background, when MiniDLNA tries to scan some files I have, RAM is eaten up for some reason. It looks like Tomato then kills MiniDLNA. After adding 256MB of swap, when MiniDLNA gets to those files it manages to carry on at a crawl but both the RAM and swap are essentially entirely consumed. When scanning files that don't cause a problem available RAM hovers around 80%+. I have also noticed MiniDLNA stop scanning without anything appearing in the regular tomato log, but that was before I worked out how to get MiniDLNA to do verbose logging, which brings me to my next comment - maybe a check box for verbose logging in the GUI would be an addition people would find helpful in a future release? I haven't tried very hard to get it to break since I worked out how to do verbose logging so I'm not sure of the cause of this. If you want to test I can provide a media file that will crash Mini DLNA. I can also generate some logs if you want them.
Tried WDS with 7495.3 version. Had some stalls in data flow. Very easy to determine when using internet radio stream to slave attached client. Back to the old stable standby 7483.2 and no stalls in data flow. Tried ethernet bridge mode to see if slave could pick up time with xx95.3 version. Still not able to do so. With xx95.3 version slave in WDS mode, slave in AP+WDS mode, all settings the same time as ethernet bridge mode picked up almost instantly.
The result from the following command may be of diagnostic value: ntpc us.pool.ntp.org Similarly, the result from the following command: ntpc 66.187.233.4
This command gets this result: ntpc us.pool.ntp.org Unable to resolve: us.pool.ntp.org However this command gets this result: ntpc 66.187.233.4 Trying 66.187.233.4: Time Updated: Mon, 20 Feb 2012 16:13:00 -0700 [-1s]
And if I put 66.187.233.4 in the custom settings for the time server it works just fine. So what is that telling us?
The latest version of this firmware, when i connected at this VPN service with bandwitch limiter enabled, rebbot my ASUS RT-N66U. Is a bug?
Given that the DNS settings in the slave point to the master and are working, evidenced by the slave attached clients working, what part or what setting regarding DNS is impacting the just the time server lookup and reply? If it was a general DNS problem none of the slave attached clients would be able to get to the internet. All do so just fine. Edit: As best as I can remember I think every possible dns option in both the slave and the master have been tried, enabled tried, disabled tried, etc., all with no positive effect.
Here is a good list of time servers if you are in the United States. I use the custom fields and input the closest time servers. http://tf.nist.gov/tf-cgi/servers.cgi
Good illustration of the "Trial and Error" approach, vs. the "Diagnostic" approach. Thus far, the Diagnostic approach has provided a fix for the time-setting problem and uncovered a (partial) DNS resolver problem. FWIW.
Lost me there Pl..... Trial and error isn't diagnostic? We still don't know why it doesn't work as it should.
"No minimalist, reproducible, malfunctioning system has yet been offered by the problem owner." Not sure how I'm suppose to offer that but I have done everything anyone has suggested and tried it, resets, different firmware, changed settings lots of times, etc. Have found lots of failure in those suggestions. Have asked for the exact settings from a person who says theirs works and only got spotty answers and not a complete listing of all their settings. So at this point given it works by entering the IP addresses and until I can find an answer to the apparent DNS issue as the slave communicates with the master in ethernet bridge mode, I'm good with the IP addresses in custom field. Thanks for your suggestion Pl....
I have problems blocking a specific website. The website is n o b r a i n . d k (don't visit it!), and no matter, what rule I set up, it is always reachable. Every other website containing the same words are blocked, even when you search with Google. Here are my settings:
Re: Tomato Firmware v1.28.7632.3 -Toastman-VLAN-IPT-ND ND VPN Bandwidth and IP Traffic scale factors appear to use powers of 1,024 rather than powers of 1,000. If the GB scale factor is used, the displayed traffic is 6.9% lower than the actual traffic. If the MB scale factor is used displayed traffic is 4.6% low. With bandwidth caps being imposed by ISPs it is important that traffic levels reported be accurate. Please correct this bug. Thank you for all your good work!

Re: Tomato Firmware v1.28.7632.3 -Toastman-VLAN-IPT-ND ND VPN Bandwidth and IP Traffic scale factors appear to use powers of 1,024 rather than powers of 1,000. With bandwidth caps being imposed by ISPs it is important that traffic levels reported be accurate. Please correct this bug. I am saying that the appropriate definition of gigabyte (GB) for measuring internet traffic is 1,000,000,000 rather than 2**30 = 1,024**3 = 1,073,741,824. The appropriated definition of megabyte (MB) is 1,000,000 rather than 2**20 = 1,024**2 = 1,048,576. The appropriate definition of kilobyte (KB) is 1,000 rather than 2**10 = 1,024. The use of KB = 2**10, MB = 2**20, and GB = 2**30 is useful for quantities of memory (RAM or ROM) because it allows small integers to describe memory capacity. For practically all other applications, including storage capacity of disk drives: K = 1,000, M = 1,000,000, and G = 1,000,000,000.
Thank you very much. I'll need to wait until I can get the mini version of the same kernal/mips tree. Unfortunately my router only has a 4MB Flash (Cisco M20), so from what I've read I need to make sure I grab a NoUSB version and I think the only one small enough is the mini build, however, I cannot confirm at the moment without being able to view the directory list on 4Shared. Thank you for helping nonetheless
Hi Toastman, Would you be able to make a build with the iptables "comment" module compiled in to do things like "iptables ... -m comment --coment blah"? The "comment" module is needed by fwknop which I'm trying to get running which is a much more secure way to selectively open ports and/or setup DNAT (see thread http://linksysinfo.org/index.php?th...r-with-fwknop-iptables-m-comment-error.36954/). I'm currently running tomato-E3000USB-NVRAM60K-1.28.0495.3MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-N-Ext.bin. It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Thank you for your new release! Please can you add support for memory cards? I need to save logs and other thing to memory card over the usb reduction... thank you!!!
Toastman is better choise for me! Check his repository - new version 7496 obtains support for 3G modems over USB from shibby so I think he would add support for SDHC soon I hope
Actually he won't, there is no need to use SD/SDHC. If you'd like to use it, your only option is Shibby or Teaman (slodki is older). Check here for features: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomato_(firmware)#Feature_comparison
Yes, of course. But sometimes SDHC support could be useful... For example - sharing photos saved on SD card from camera over wifi throught this way... its only my opinion and I need sometimes this feature... thats alll
There is adapters so you can put your sdhc card in and use USB, they cost a few bucks ! Thats impossible to say, you have to test what is working for you. That depends on your environment. I have tested and I'm using RT-N builds and it's workig very good. But I know users who have the opposite experience.
OK, I know about this.. I will buy it tommorow after work... and what about the driver? which one do you prefer? (I saw your signature...)

Hi toastman, I seem to be having an issue with QoS classifying all Mumble, Ventrillo and Teamspeak connections to "Crawl" (all VoIP solutions) and since the servers that provide these service can use any Port, simply setting a basic rule for DsT port does not work when connecting with different servers. any advice would be appreciated thanks. Edit: after posting this I found L7 filters for teamspeak and ventrillo, although the teamspeak one doesnt seem to work with "teamspeak 3" and there is no l7 filter for mumble
L7 filters are not being kept up to date - there have been no significant changes on the L7 sites for a very long time now. You just have to do the best you can with port numbers I guess.
Just loaded 1.28.7496 for my Linksys E3000, I used to have 1.28.7486. I hadn't updated for quite awhile. Anyways, I like the improvements! Awesome job! I like the new internal LAN bandwidth tracking functionality.
@toastman, I just got RT-N16 earlier this morning. I'm very happy with it! Wireless speed is great no matter where I am in the house. Its persistence with my Provider speed whether lan or wireless. =). Again I appreciate it. now gotta find my sweet spot for the RT-N16 unless you care to share your current settings for it =)
Does anyone have some decent QoS settings? Or is QoS something that I shouldn't be playing with unless I have a problem?
Would it be possible to update/merge the latest miniupnpd release? https://github.com/miniupnp/miniupnp/blob/master/miniupnpd/Changelog.txt Several fixes have been put in place since our version (2011/11/18)...
QoS adds overhead. Don't use it unless you need it. Feel free to experiment with it, but don't expect QoS to speed up your connection.
As ntest7 says, you may not need QOS - but if you have several people using the system together it may help to prevent one person hogging the line. But you do have to tune it for your own system, it is important you set the maximum bandwidth settings to your measured speeds less, say, 15%. The default rule examples will work in the meantime for most things people use, but will need adjustment.
No, I don't have a 3g service so can't test. This mod is from Shibby ... and I will update whenever he adds new models. Our appreciation to Shibby for this useful addition!
I notice Status -> Device List show all the device I definded in Basic -> DHCP/ARP/BW even if they are not active. Is there a way to display all the devices currently connected to the router (both wired and wireless)?
Hey Toastman, I did search for this but coudn't find any posts re: this on Google or here: is there any chance you'll ever consider enabling DHCP by default? Your builds are the best - THANK YOU SO MUCH, but if I send a router to a remote site and ask them to monitor the flashing process it is much more difficult having to talk the non-techies through setting an IP to configure the router. I presume your worry is about multiple DHCP servers being placed on-net somewhere? Thanks for any info.
After upgrading my WRT-160Nv3 with tomato-K26-1.28.20111009MIPSR2-beta-tomato-RT-N-GIT-Mini.trx I can not access it anymore, no www, no telnet. By luck I have a "serial console" so I will be able to recover it. Why HTTP access is blocked? by an IP filter rules? Do you want me to dump information from the command shell before reflashing it with an old version? httpd is running and: /tmp/etc # netstat -a Active Internet connections (servers and established) Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State tcp 0 0 unknown:www 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN PS: previous version was tomato-K26-1.28.7483MIPSR2-Toastman-RT-MiniIPv6.trx
