I would like to have a PPTP VPN server on my WRT54G. I'm currently using Tomato Firmware v1.28.7633 .3-Toastman-VLAN-IPT-ND ND VPN but there is only a PPTP client in it.

Which firmware do I have to use to get a PPTP server?

I tested the following versions but I have not found the version with the PPTP server features

    tomato-ND-1.28.7636Toastman-IPT-ND-SmallVPN.trx
    tomato-ND-1.28.7636Toastman-IPT-ND-Std.trx
    tomato-ND-1.28.7636Toastman-IPT-ND-VLAN-VPN.trx
    tomato-ND-1.28.7636Toastman-IPT-ND-VPN.trx

I have found no difference between the SmallVPN version and the VPN version

There isn't one, it is too big for the WRT. There are versions for later routers such as the RT-N16 etc. which have all VPN mods.

I used to compile tomato a long time ago. Is this hard to try to choose what to include/remove from your distribution ? Any advises, documentation...

I remember a kind of Linux kernel ncurse menu. Do you think it's doable easily or its no way: it will always be too big?

We just need VPN and the trouble with old version like Tomato Firmware v1.28.0025 Teaman-VLAN-PPTPD ND VPN is that openssl is too old and doesn't work in most navigators now.

    Regards

You might try removing everything you can see that you don't need. It's possible you can make it small enough, I really don't remember the size. The problem is that all of the upgrades to packages came at a price - they just got much bigger!

Am I on the right way?

I go back to Toastman-1.28.7636 that is IPT-ND. Then I find an older pptpd directory and put it back in release/src/router. Then I make menuconfig. And finally I compile. Do I miss something?

Any advices to compile only WRT54G and not all the stuff.

I think Shibby's 124 release has PPTP server.
OpenVPN is far superior, do you not know how to set it up or can your client not support OpenVPN?

Yes I know. I use both.

But PPTP is directly supported on the iPhone and not openvpn. I can imagine some app exists but...

There is also L2TP and IPSEC on the iphone. I no it's also on Tomato. But it looks like k24 is no more support by anybody. This thread (http://www.linksysinfo.org/index.php?threads/tomato-build-environment.72034/) looks to says shibby's K24 version doesn't work anymore. Lots says: "just buy a new box" it's cheap support plenty of new feature... That's not wrong, but I'm still happy to see old "Beetle" on the road (car doesn't follow the moore law).

No it's just for the challenge. But here it's look to hard for me.

There is an official OpenVPN app for iOS. I've been using it for a couple years now.
