I will definitely test them out. However which build would you recommend for WNR3500L V2 considering its flash size (128MB, bricking is nigh impossible! :p). I may sound dumb but I am not really figuring out how to follow your naming convention.

we can assume that the router support in shibby is also implemented in this firmware right?

btw, cheers for wifidog and authpuppy, cant wait for it, I hope you can make it available for 8mb flash routers (even if you remove all those xunlei, aria2, vpn etc.)

For a BELKIN F7D4301/8301 , the v121 generic ASUS RT_N5X firmware is working fine.
Copied from Shibby's Anon webpage, showing my router + firmware

Belkin Play Max / N600 HD
    (F7D4301/F7D8301) v1
    20140808.Hyzoom.RT_N5x K26 USB8M-VPN-IPv6-Max

    only one small issue:
disabled 5 Ghz-----saved-----now below the 5 Ghz section, the box "Enable / Disable " disappeared
looks like there is no going back, final decision has been made

Looking forward to try out the upcoming v122.

bwq518 - thank you for your builds. the range of options that you compile allow me to get just the right function in my older routers with 4mb rom space. example: i get vlans, vpn, and virtual wifi on an e1000.
is it possible to put openvpn-tun module in a build instead of just pptp?
keep up the excellent work and good luck.

well I tried the Dual wan firmware and it works with some quirks here and there. One of it is you cant squeeze the speed combined of 2 ISP, lets say 20mb each, I can only grab around 30mbish.

And QoS and Bandwidth Limiter doesnt work under Dual WAN. Only Single WAN operation.

  24. lancethepants

    lancethepants Network Guru Member

Briefly when I was switching from DSL to cable, I had success with it. With Usenet (I imagine torrenting as well) I got full speed of both combined. I remember having to set a special rules so it would proportionately distribute those specific connections between the two. You won't see that in every kind of protocol. Generally it will divide connections, or you can set one as fallback. Only applications that can take advantage of multiple connections will see the aggregated benefit, unless you do MLPP. Otherwise you just have better overhead for congested systems.

Does anyone know if 802.11AC works for the r6300v1?

I installed it, and the network mode for the 5ghz radio only shows A or N. I tried rebooting and saving settings but I don't see an AC mode. Thanks.

Sure. After finished testing, I will release a patch for EA6500v1.

Many codes need to be revised for EA6500v1, including kernel code, mtd-write and boot init section.

Start with Asus's Dual WAN implementation. Asuswrt is originally forked from Tomato, so it'd be the best place to start IMHO.

I tried it, but it's in Chinese, so I reverted back to v123. I should have known that, based on the file name.

v123 has the AC 5G 80mhz problem where you have to choose Singapore in order for it to work. Also, I only get ~17MB/s on AC using Tomato, but I get ~34MB/s using the stock Linksys firmware (which I hate).

  35. bwq518

    bwq518 Reformed Router Member

Would you pls. provide nvram parameters of stock firmware?

  36. lsiguy10

    lsiguy10 Addicted to LI Member

I'm not sure how to get nvram parameters from the stock firmware. Is there a command for that? I'm not even sure the stock firmware allows you to enter commands.

By the way, I'm using an Intel 7260 AC card and it connects at 866mbps. And I'm 3 feet away from the router, not very far at all.

Anyway, on stock firmware, if I set it to AC 80mhz and auto channel, I can get ~34MB/s. If I manually choose a channel then I get lower throughput.

Using Tomato v123, it doesn't matter if I choose auto channel or manually pick a channel, I can never get above ~17MB/s. I notice that my initial connection speed is 866mbps then as soon as I start transferring files, it drops to ~500mbps and never go back up to 866mbps until I reboot the router. With the stock firmware, it always stays at 866mbps.

So there is something strange going on, maybe with the Broadcom wireless AC driver used in Tomato.

Let me clarify myself. I meant to say that within Tomato, it shows the 5G radio speed to be 1300mbps initially then when I connect with my 7260 card and start to transfer files, it will drop down to ~500mbps then never goes back up until the router is rebooted. This seems irrelevant to the problem - keep reading.

The connection speed shown within Windows 7 always says 866mbps.

Anyway, I fixed my problem. Let me explain.

I was trying to use the EA6500 as a wireless access point connected to a separate main router, but I hooked it up wrong. I had a cable from the main router LAN port connected to the EA6500's WAN port and the EA6500 was doing its own DHCP and routing. Then I was transferring files from a desktop connected to the main router to a laptop connected wirelessly to the EA6500. This is where I was only getting 17MB/s although the stock firmware gave me 34MB/s.

So then I hooked things up better. I hooked up the cable from the main router LAN port to the EA6500's LAN port and disabled DHCP and the WAN port on the EA6500 so that the main router does all the routing and DHCP. And voila! I now get ~30MB/s using Tomato v123. I don't want to flash back to stock firmware to see if I get higher than 34MB/s speeds now that everything is hooked up better.

So what does this all mean?

It means that WAN to LAN speeds are way higher with stock firmware.

And LAN to LAN speeds are at least a little bit higher with stock firmware. I don't want to flash back to stock firmware to find out by how much.

I'm happy the way it is now.

Just tested the 123 FW with EA6500v1. There is a max bandwidth issue via wifi of around 17mbs. My normal on stock is 60mbs. I also tried 121 same issue. Reset nvram in both cases. set region to Canada and Singapore (5GHz @ 80MHz) same issues.

Love Tomato, but this needs more work and testing on EA6500v1. Please let me know when an ENG 124 comes out and I can test that one for you guys.

I meant to say that WAN to WLAN speeds are way higher with stock firmware.

And LAN to WLAN speeds are at least a little bit higher with stock firmware.

Just for reference, I tested Ethernet LAN to Ethernet LAN and I get ~80MB/s.

Is there a reason OpenVPN was removed from this mod? Just curious as that was one of the reasons I flashed it. Failing that, anyone know of a current (post-Heartbleed) mod with OpenVPN support that would work with the Netgear WNDR3400?

source is available on the author's website, but its set to private, that only some of them like shibby, toastman and victek were only got access to it.

probably no one uses it, specially me since OpenVPN is just too slow for the router, even R7000, it can easily hog up your CPU resources in a blink of an eye. I just use VPN server included on Microtik router, at least the CPU they using is optimized on that task.

The testing version is just based on DD nvrams. I think there some ciritical problem about PCI parameters from DD. These params influence wifi speed.

Now I am just busy on new version baed on new toolchain (gcc 4.6.4, uclibc 0.9.32) so that can support apps better.

I found this thread after noticing several Tenda N80 routers on the Tomato Anon page running your firmware, and even a couple running Shibby's. I have a Tenda N80 router that I've been hoping to upgrade to Tomato for awhile now, and just saw that the Tenda N80 is in your list of supported devices.

However, I am unable to get the router to accept any firmware other than Tenda's. After starting the firmware upgrade with any 3rd-party firmware, the file uploads but then a page comes up stating "Error!". I downloaded your tomato-TDN80_121--20140808.Hyzoom.RT_AC-16M-AIO-AR-TR-PY-GAE-64K.trx file from Mega. Looking closely at the files, I noticed that Tenda's firmware files are in BIN format while everyone else's are in TRX format. Changing the file extension from TRX to BIN didn't help. What am I supposed to do to make the router accept this firmware? Obviously other people have accomplished this or there wouldn't be Tenda N80 routers listed on the Tomato Anon page.

    Hi,

I have tried both firmware but the upnp is not working.

on my Linksys EA6500 version 1 and both firmware do not work.

Is there any limitation on the port number? I tried different number port from small number to big number but doesn’t work.

I tried using the manual port forwarding and it works. But I prefer to use the NAT / NAT-PMP instead as it is automatic.

Hope to receive your reply soon

    Thanks.

^same process as N6 and N60 routers, you need a TTL device and connect it to your router's internal connection (yes you will be voiding your router's warranty), then connect to serial of your TTL with your favorite Terminal software, then turn on the router and spam CTRL+C on your keyboard to terminate the boot process, from there, you can upload the trx file using the CFE miniweb server.

Thank you for the information. That's just what I needed to get going in the right direction. But now the CFE miniweb server is complaining that the firmware is too big. Rather than clutter up this thread, I have created one for the Tenda N80 here.
