    hello!

ive noticed strange thing since updating my WRT54GL corerev=9 to New Driver version of Victek mod from common Victek 1.23.8025. Ive got 2 hp laptops with intel wifi cards, which work without a problem, no disconnections, everything nice & smooth. but there are also my two friends, one with toshiba and one with vaio, both got atheros-based wifi chipsets. vaio is vgn-n38 e/w model with a strange LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g PCI-E adaptor (provided by atheros). cant remeber toshiba model and exact wifi card name but for sure it was atheros. both laptops have the newest wifi drivers possible. all pcs working on vista. and the thing is toshiba and vaio cannot connect to internet through my tomato RAF router. wifi filter work properly, static IP too. both are connected to router and visible in device list, but cannot connect to internet. in "network and sharing center" both pcs are connected only LOCAL, and are constantly reconnecting every few minutes. when i try windows "diagnose" it says exact same thing on both laptops:

cannot communicate with Primary DNS server (10.2.255.1). Network diagnostics pinged the remote host but did not receive a response.

there was no such problem on vaio using a 1.23.8025 firmware however the network signal meter was showing only two bars all the time and internet worked slow, even when it was put 1 meter from router. [edit: solved that -a matter of old wifi driver on vaio. but hey, at least it worked!] didnt tested this firware with toshiba.

do you have any ideas what to do? i dont really want do downgrade to 8025. thanks

Did you delete your old wfi profile in Windows ? Seems you're using Vista drivers. Did you try to dl them from atheros website ?

thanks for reply. tried to download them, but hell i dont know what is the exact atheros chip model - cannot find it anywhere - even with AIDA32, so i dont know which driver to download.

can You explain me what do You mean by deleting old wifi profile? i dont quite follow ;] vista were installed by manufacturer.

What peyton said is simple, use the Atheros utility to handle wireless connection. By the way.. are you trying to get IP by both connection at the same time? .. any way, do it with the wireless card utility..

yeah, i use both connections at the same time, especially when i need to diagnose wifi problems and i need to use internet. never had problems with it.

you say atheros utilily... easy said, not that easy to do. tell me if u find sth like atheros utility for vista. i found some new drivers, ill try to aply them tomorrow. thanks!

try that webiste : ma-config.com it's in French but very simple to handle.
Just install the activeX ("démarrer la détection" and "installation automatique") and it will scan you computer.
After that you just have to click on "télécharger mes drivers" and you will normally have your atheros one.
Only be careful on false positive for some hardware.

    Hope it'll help.

thank You peyton, great site. ive installed the newest drivers. cleaned the wifi profil in toshiba (it had some wifi assist, no such thing on vaio, cannot find any working in vista) all of it didnt help... BUT, i figured it out anyway!! the problem causing the atheros based chipsets to disconnect was WMM enabled in Advanced -> Wireless. my god... thank You all for help and support, really appreciate that! topic can be closed.

Wireless driver and miniupnpd, bugs in the SES button corrected .. always use the late release, when no changes to improve there are no new releases

one more thing about atheros cards - they need the Regulatory Mode setting in advanced->wireless to be Off. in "d" they are constantly reconnectind and resolving ip adress from dhcp. the "h" is bad choice for everyone i suppose, it makes my intel card reconnect all the time too. hope itll help someone :)
