Can't help so much, I build the version with any of the repos without problem.

    Thank you!

    Hi,
for comparison reasons i need to know if the Tomato RAF simulator is update to the currently version.
    Thanks

Dont rush... Better wait longer and get stable and bugless version...

It is a hobby and be happy than Tomato has Victek.

Others developers publish 1build in 2months, Victek every 2weeks, so wait for christmas

@Elfew, Thanks for the detailed answer :) We will wait!

No, unfortunately it's not updated since one year ago, I know it will bring you a better undertanding about tomato in general and RAF in particular ... sadly I have no time, but I'll try... it's a good tomato guide (but it's a hell to handle it with all functions). Thanks for pointing on it.

Edit: I saw that this web section have few hits.. 20 in one year .. hard work for few visitors.. or poor visibility in web menu ... anyway, I'll try again.

Because i think that your build is very promising and you are very helpfull to support the users, i would install it on my N66U but i need to know some informations before migrate, so ask you if there is:
    - Support for NFS Server (for my XBMC on raspberry pi)
    - HFS/HFS+ filesystem (less important)
    - IP monitoring bandwidth
    - entware/optware support

  8. Victek

    - Support for NFS Server (for my XBMC on raspberry pi) --> NO
    - HFS/HFS+ filesystem (less important) --> YES
    - IP monitoring bandwidth --> YES
    - entware/optware support --> YES

I had same question about nfs server one year ago, when I switched from shibby to victek build... but there were another 10 pros over one cons so I switched. I can live without it and nowadays I am happy that I made this choise ;)

    Thanks.
I don't see the QOS but i supposed is implemented.
My actually configuration is a router N66U with shibby and the features that currently i'm using are:
    - ADSL connected via ppoe to a bridged modem
    - Dual Band Wifi
    - NFS server (essentially for raspberry but i can switch to smb), SMB (for PC/Mac), Netatalk (for Macs TimeMachine Backup) to sharing an USB Harddisk attached to the router.
    - QOS
with entware i have installed netatalk, avahi to advertise the available services to the Macs.

Thanks, yes, it's, added. @alfag4 if you are fine with other version and want to try another is your decision. I don't see you need RAF version. The main difference in RAF are web server, php, reverse proxy (pixelserv), siproxd ... but if you don't use then .. is up to you.

To be honest, more than the above items which Victek just named, to me, given that this is a router, the KEY thing I like is the fact that key components such as Busybox, Dropbear, miniupnpd are kept up to date. That to ME is worth a lot more than a web server etc.

Additionally, Victek (with all due respect) does care that extra bit about bugs in existing code. So his builds are generally most stable (until of course others cherrypick the fixes)...

  15. Elfew

    Elfew Addicted to LI Member

Cons? Dont be stupid - just check.git and flash it on you router and test. Stability, updated modules, higher throughput than others tomato builds (i have over 175mbit wizt victek, just 145 with shibby and 125 with toastman...

I dont need nfs server or transmissions.. Router is about stability and performance

My, was only a genuine question!!
In any case i have installed the Victek build and configured from scratch. I moved my raspberry from NFS to SMB and seems more stable. Some features that on shibby never working now works great, like CPU load and the more important for me, the QOS bandwidth limit per class is applied correctly with DSL overhead value option is used.
I discovered a little bug only when trying to disable the SIP on startup.
The field "siproxd_if_inbound" is invalid. Please report this problem
but i solved by disabling and rebooting from CLI.
The message appears only when you try to disabling not viceversa.

  17. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

Yes, but.. this is not a bug .. it's done on purpose ;) I explain ... we (tomato raf team) launched this version to test siproxd add-on, then, the option to disconnect the service was blocked. :) The next version will allow you to disable the service without entering in CLI mode.

I did similar on new features to test, then we know if people use it when they report 'small bugs' when they try to disable .. don't worry..

    Thanks for use it.

To be perfectly honest, at this point there is no way this is still 1.2X... ;)
The ARM Stuff should definitely be a 2.0! ;)

..... We tried first to clean mips ... cause we found some issues when integrating ARM, so, in fact all this patches surged during the ARM integration and thanks to ARM the mipsel branch have been refined, so it means that ARM is near, well, more than closer .... ;) but I'm sure some other contributor is also close to release ...

Just for clarity, what I meant was that "with all the features and updates you've incorporated into 1.2X, at this point there is no way any software company would not have bump a full version number by now."

I hope that came across properly and not "rudely" (after re-reading)... :)

My trusted rt16n finally gave up. At least I think so. It won't start with a brand new 12v 2a PSU at least. Lights blink on and then off then nothing.
I'll be looking forward to by an arm armed router soon. Any recommendation? Not to worried about wireless, but want strong cable performance, ideally with snappy openvpn encryption as well...
Brand is irrelevant, price/performance is key.

Yes, you have then to tick the chekbox to use tomato firmware for Snap or Internode (don't know if it will help for other providers yet) ;). Also facebook MTU issue with ipv6 it's solved in this version.

    Considering the RT-N folder clearly says "RT-N (MIPSR2 - latest, like E4200, RT-N10U, RT-N12B1, RT-N66U, WNR3500Lv2, RT-N15U , also RT-N16" at the top, I would say the answer is quite clear.

Also, this thread is for Tomato RAF, not Toastman firmwares; please don't just pick a thread and start commenting

Victek, Quick question. I'm running your 1.2v version on a recently purchased RT-N66U. I noticed in an earlier post that there may be a DNSMasq issue with this version. Did I read wrong, and if I didn't, is there an updated firmware version for this router?

Oh...haha But I can't decide which is better for E4200. I know that Toastman uses your sources to improve on it. I think?

I'm just using it for gaming for home use. Nothing fancy stuff. Which would you recommend?

Both stable and better than stock. Victek's firmware is better for higher speed connections and has extra features. Toastman's focus is more toward stability and QoS. What's your connection speed? Is there a problem you are trying to solve with third party firmware, or are you switching just for fun?

  47. omgsy

    omgsy Reformed Router Member

My speed is down 14Mbps and up 2 Mbps... Shitty internet. Timer Warner Cable.
There are no problems but I thought I would give it a try because it is better than stock.
Also, when my cousin uses wifi (Mac book air) to watch youtube or videos, my laptop which is wired tends to lag in games such as Dota 2.

    @Victek, found an interesting problem:

If the router initiates a reconnect, using pppoe bridged to a zyxel vdsl2 modem, our ISP assigns a new dynamic ipv6 address to the router however none of the clients update the ipv6 dns server to point to the new ipv6 address of the router

E.g. my ipv6 address is 2406:e000:97ec:0:3285:a9ff:fe6c:xxxx however clients still display the ipv6 dns server (router) as 2406:e000:97b4:0:3285:a9ff:fe6c:xxxx which was the previous ipv6 address

This applies to both Windows and Mac OSX. I have to disable/enable the network adapter to pick up the new ipv6 DNS server

Let me know if you need any further info

I'm not sure if will be release 1.3 ... could be 1.2 also ;)
Yes, It's a problem reported to dnsmasq author, it's known and only visible with other OS except Linux... we have to wait for patches or I can build the constructor with a command existent for windows users forcing to renegotiate the ipv6... may be another option in the ipv6 menu options. The question I have is ... do you loss connectivity in these machines having the previous ipv6? .. maybe it's still in the ipv6 range assigned by the ISP?

This is the command and issue.. in fact I will say it's a shared issue...
    # Send microsoft-specific option to tell windows to release the DHCP lease
    # when it shuts down. Note the "i" flag, to tell dnsmasq to send the
    # value as a four-byte integer - that's what microsoft wants. See
    # http://technet2.microsoft.com/Windo...d2d4-49f0-96d6-4b7414ecfaae1033.mspx?mfr=true

Try to write this sentence in dnsmasq custom window:

    dhcp-option=vendor:MSFT,2,1i

Ah, thank you for the donation!

Probably because 90% of consumers don't know the difference, and prefer the look of an integrated device than one with those ugly plastic things sticking out.

Internal antenna designs have also improved quite a bit over time, so I suspect that a modern internal design will be similar to an older external antenna design in terms of performance.

Note that this seems to vary between manufacturers. Asus still has most of their routers using external antennas, while Linksys went with internal antennas.

I don't lose connectivity but DNS lookups start to fail and pages can sit on resolving host for a few secs longer than normal, for whatever reason Windows prefers the IPV6 DNS server over the IPV4

When router reconnects and obtains a new ipv6 address:
    nslookup www.gpforums.co.nz
    DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
    Server: UnKnown
    Address: 2406:e000:911b:0285:a9ff:fe6c:xxxx

Using the ipv4 address works as expected:

Cheapest to manufacture and stocks ... performance it's similar
The RSSI I got with RT-AC56U is twice the obtained with RT-N16 at same distance. If you keep the RT-AC56 in vertical position (default).. so no discussion in this case ;) with RT-AC68U should be even better having 3x3

Upon further inspection, the link I got from you seem to exactly pin point my problem. The capacitor had seen its best days and I have now ordered a replacement. Unfortunately we don't have those things locally, so shipping is far more expensive than the component itself. Nevertheless, still a lot cheaper than buying a new router.

Let's hope my de/soldering skills are enough.

    Thanks again!

Glad to help on it, I had same problem with my WRT54GL and RT-N16 time ago... I solved going to a closer 'green IT disposal point' where you can find hundreds of them .... I got a computer motherboard and done.. free. It's amazing what you can find there.. I built my first NAS with recycling parts... dual Xenon CPU's, incredible ..

  61. mstombs

    mstombs Network Guru Member

There's always a guard on our local 'green IT disposal point', so you can't take away, you have to get stuff before it gets there via freecycle schemes - apparently motherboards are richer in copper and gold than mining ores. Its also tricky removing capacitors from multi-layer boards, easier to destroy with pliers then unsolder legs individually!

If I am going to effort of replacing capacitors I always use new good name 'low-Z' 105 deg C. Electrolytic capacitors have finite life even these only rated for 4000 hours (<6 months) @ 105 deg C:-
    http://cpc.farnell.com/rubycon/16zl680mefc10x16/capacitor-680uf-16v/dp/CA07564
but lifetime doubles for 10 degC lower. Must not fit smaller voltage rating and wouldn't recommend fitting smaller capacity but usually can't go much higher on both since physical size increases. I have used the 1000uF version in several NSLU2 power supplies since needed a lot for my TV boxes, and probably still have some in stock.

Best motherboards/ graphics cards now have 'solid polymer' capacitors, not so good now have electrolytics made to look like the better ones.

Vic - I downloade the beta test version for the E3000 using the link listed under the heading "Cisco Linksys beta test versions: http://victek.is-a-geek.com/Repositorios/v1.2x/tomato-E3000-NVRAM60K-1.28.9013MIPSR1-RAF-V1.2x.trx

Two problems -- the E3000 is a MIPSR2 processor so the flash ended up bricking the router - and - the E3000 is also USB.

    Here we go: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/down...6/dd-wrt.v24-22118_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini-e3000.bin

The entire procedure is a bit long the but highlights are that you need to reset the router using the router's reset button, tftp the new image, give ample time to reboot/rebuild after the tftp flash (2-3 minutes). Eventually you will be at a point where you can reflash the working V1.2v build.

If you need a more detailed explanation, drop me a PM so we don't clutter this topic .... DC

Thanks! I'm pleased to say that the upgrade to my E900 was a lot less eventful - worked like a charm the first time. Just tried your new E3000 V1.2x as well and it worked! Great -- now off to test.

It's easy @gffmac ... you're experienced guy in his forum.. follow @dc361 procedure.

I have a doubt here.... as far I know this router is 8MB flash, 32MB RAM and 32KB nvram, right? but I think this unit can work also as MIPSR2 .. can it be confirmed?

I have restored routers via tftp before but its not having it this time. Fw will upload fine but the power led just flashes endlessly after reset etc. Its almost as if the reset button isnt working.

Check your PM .. I had to get to 'recovery mode' by unplugging all the cables, power on router and after 1.5-2 seconds press reset for 5 seconds then I went ahead and tftpd the firmware. Let it sit for a couple of minutes after tftp and short press (1-2 seconds) reset again. Good Luck!

ps.. I had another CMD window open and was running ping -t 192.168.1.1 during the process as well... helped with the timing.

OK, I built one version for WRT320N .. but as far I know MIPSR2 it's also supported for this router, then, the version is built for 8MB flash, 32MB ram, 32KB nvram, no USB and dual band. I can't test in any router .. so.. it's a bit risky... ok, is up to you to test it.

It should be ok, the main thing users will have to keep in mind with the WRT320N X build is that they will need to have a previous version of tomato installed already, IE - The X build for wrt320n will be good for upgrading only, not for initial flashing from stock firmware.

Also to note, because the binary file isn't unit specific (it doesn't have a wrt320n header in it, and is why it should only be used for upgrading a previous tomato build) and built in a more generic fashion (which i like :) ) it should be compatible with multiple units, not just for the wrt320n.

Is there supposed to be a USB version of the new Tomato RAF 1.28.9013 Version 1.2x for the Linksys E4200? The file name that comes up is "tomato-E4200-NVRAM60K-1.28.9013MIPSR2-RAF-V1.2x.bin"

    Thanks.

I'll mention (only for update). Thanks
Yes, since E4200 have USB socket then the upgrade includes all USB features too.

Hi Quick question for Victek or anyone else really.

In the bandwidth stats pages for daily / weekly / monthly it only shows the stats for WAN, I'm using my E4200 as more of a VPN Switch device, so I have no WAN traffic, it all goes via Tun11 or Tun12.

Is it possible to change these reports to look at that interface instead of or in addition to the WAN port ?

    Thanks

Give time enough to generate reports and you will see all interfaces stats .... ;)

    hi victek -
using 1.2x on E4200 with great results so far. thank you.
are there any generic builds coming? i have a bunch of other routers to upgrade (like belkin f7d7301 (8mb), wnr3500luv (8mb))
    thanks

I prefer to wait til some feedback in this version for any bug to produce other builds for generic router, let's wait one week more or less depending of it.. not?, meanwhile I'm finishing the ARM build..

But for Belkin and Netgear you can use WRT320N version, it's compatible if you are running tomato firmware already in these routers.

I have flashed the version for WRT320N. My previous version was the toastman Tomato.

1st. Erase history in your browser or cookies, it works. but in E4200 could be a problem due to switch configuration and dual wireless..., I'll investigate, nevertheless you have also service available via wireless by default.
2nd. It's not an error, this program uses up to 3 instances, nothing wrong.

Before I flashed from Toastman Tomato to Victek, I erase the nvram and after flashed I do it again. :)

Here is a screenshot from the WLAN speed. The first one is my desktop pc without wlan. The second is my smartphone Galaxy S2 and the third is my TV.

When I have made the screenshot I have run speedtest.net app on the mobile phone.

;) Well ... the only one who can say if it works or not are you. Let's see stability now. As you know speed rate is depending of your device capabilities ... it looks similar in my case with Galaxy phone I have.
