Apologies Victek, I was running OpenVpn via Ipad app, forgot that and tried to start the OpenVpn via router! Which must of caused a confliction.

i dont know if this is the right spot to post this but ill give it a shot. uhm the bandwith limiter crashes and restarts router on the e3000 series. im running the latest betas ive rest nvram and everything same results

Did you tried last beta?... I can't test on E3000 but E3200,4200,RT-N16,RT-N66 are working ok. Questions:
    - Do you use standard configuration or VLAN's?
    - Do you use QoS and Bandwidth Limiter at once? (not compatible)
    - What version are you using now? (please try release t and give feedback)

    Thanks!

yes im using Tomato RAF Firmware v1.28.9013 MIPSR2-RAF-V1.1t K26 USB VLAN-NGINX...im using it connected via ethernet cable direct to ps3. It works for like a 4 minutes sometimes and reboots and continues rebooting unless i plug out ethernet. ive also tried beta s the same thing. yes standard configs havent used vlans yet. oh and also QOS was tried on and off and still same results

Could you try to save a logbook setting the console debug level to 8 and saving into an external location in order to know what's provoking these reboots? Any special configuration (additional firewall rules or restrictions?). I'm very interested to know about it since these problems surged time ago but I thought it was solved since beta 'j'.
    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the info.

I have a few questions about virtual wireless interface.

When i configure vlna, Is it necessary reassign a lan port to the new vlan?, What's happend with the device connected to that lan port?

And, Is it necessary configure dhcp enable on all vlans? I have all my devices with fixed ip and dhcp disable on router and i would like to enable dhcp only at the virtual wireless interface.

    Thanks a lot.

Hi daddygame, thanks for helping me, yes, it's. But as you explained the reboot occurs randomly, then data will be lost, so, I recommend you to use an external location to save all log produced by the router using the option Administration/logging and use an external location introducing your computer address and creating a directory to save al messages generated by the unit. It will be an amazing information.

    Thanks

It's fine, just disable log internally and install a syslog utility in your PC in order to listen port and capture the data, I understand you're using windows then use it http://goo.gl/APP13 and disable windows firewall...

    But there was also:
    I wonder:

    1. What was wrong before 1.1k?
When, how, and why did it fail?
    What was fixed?

    2. What was wrong with the fix in 1.1k that requires a new BW Limiter?
How is this new one different, and what makes it more accurate?

    Thanks!

And what did you diner today?.. are you happy?... where is Wally? ..
Changed many things, a new sorting for rules in iptables, an additional Intermediate Queueing Device, some patches in netfilter for k2.6, 5 files patched and collateral 9 files code review, test and error, test and error and patience ... that's all.
Why it fail?, obviously because the approach was wrong and the CPU was not able to share resources quick enough, why it's more reliable and accurate? because the Intermediate Queueing Devices have the responsibility to do the job with less CPU audit. Why I changed from TC to IMQ?, after code optimization CPU performance was not enough....

But .. I'm not 100% satisfied (the CTF is still disabled and I need 50MB/sec BW Wan-Lan). I'm reading and learning to seek better solution yet. More info ... http://www.linuximq.net/patches.html

Did I answer your questions? Thanks!

    Hello Victek,

tomato-E3200-1.28.9013MIPSR2-RAF-V1.1t.trx has been rock solid for me. I'm running a fairly basic setup (no VLANs, Qos, or Bandwidth Limiters) but this has quickly become my Tomato variant of choice.

I'm eagerly awaiting USB and DLNA support for the e3200.

Thank you for all your hard work. Is there anything specific we should be testing on this build?

Victek, so another improving for BW limiter? Nice! Is it difficult to implement this IMQ?

using restore config option on release "T" it does not restore the values from "advanced/conntrack/netfilter" tab..all other variables get restored except for that page using E3000 (restored config from "T" build as test)

  20. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

macgyver, please don't use restore option, enter settings manually cause values in nvram are changing from version to version and may corrupt the settings, sorry to not advice but always in beta versions (and almost any version) enter new settings manual after upgrade.

That's great !!!!! appreciate your effort, did you saw this line in the syslog repeated hundred of lines?
    192.168.1.2,<11>Jan 1 01:00:59 kernel: hub 1-0:1.0: over-current condition on port 1

Please try to correct it, use an external power supply for your hdd or device using the usb. This issue 'may be' a reason for these reboots... later we can see more in deep but afaik everything seems normal, did you got any reboot during this capture?

As anything at any IT project, to make corrections or to review it's difficult when you are not the owner of the project and each one of us have a different mind, skills and perspective to project things. I'm a simple beginner compared with the job done by the Tomato creator and many other people improving it... but I enjoy and I'm very proud (same as any of you) doing things better. ;)
By the way, Tomato RAF source code already in the git, it's more mature now, no excuses!!!

I did not restore from another build....it was my restore file for release "T" which I was already running at the time...I had the config saved already so I just loaded it to see what happened....and the result :)
I always configure all settings from scratch when updating builds it only takes a few minutes to save a lot of potential headaches

I don't understand this over-current condition in port 1 ... are you using the original AC adapter? One suggestion, don't set highest priority if you don't have another IP to limit (it's may be a condition not evaluated in the code... because I thought nobody can set a high priority when no other IP's are in the list.. and this 'human' assumption may create a goto unresolved condition...)

  27. daddygame

    daddygame Reformed Router Member

yes im using the regular ac power adapter and the also recently changed the priority to high thinking it would solve the problem lol. so it does the samethimg in normal priority. do u need me to do any other testing for u? i will try to help u as much as i can!

  28. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

Since I can't reproduce this 'amazing' message 'over-current condition..' unusual till today in a home router (this message it's known in cisco 2800 series .. but never seen in a home router) I'm lost.. do you have any spare router compatible with Tomato?
I'm checking code and including the 'strict priority' to normal condition when no other IP's are in the pool.. because simply your IP is the only and lovely one.. ;)

Edit: as jerrm pointed very well, I know the reason now...the fan is connected to +5v usb line...but I saw you have e3200 also?.. could you try it?

  29. jerrm

    jerrm Network Guru Member

    1. Have you tried another tomato version (shibby/toastman) build to see if you get the reboots and/or log over-current messages?
    2. Have you tried older RAF builds (pre 9013)?
    3. Your video shows a fan mod. How is the fan powered?

  30. daddygame

    daddygame Reformed Router Member

i tried the bandwith limitier on my other e3000 withou fan mod and same results auto reboots but ive tried i think its toastman on my e2500 and it work flawlessly with bandwith limiter now im about to flash my e3000 with its version and see if it works and give u the results so u can work on it if it works :)
ok just check it it was shibby's version and it worked good so far no overloads on the port yet but ill do some more testing to confirm it doesnt pop up again but otherwise my modded e3000 seems to be working good now

  31. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

Please to clarify do apples with apples ... if you use e3000 try anoher version in the same unit. e2500 have another hardware (no usb, usb internal wireless driver...) so, try another version in the e3000.
If you try shibby version in the modded e3000 you will have over current condition, because you have a fan. If you try my release in standard e3000 I would like to know if the message over current condition appears too.

Try to be methodical in your test .... ;)

    Thanks!

I'm getting alot of complains from the family of having their phone/tables alot of disconnects/connects, I'm using the RAF 1.1t on my E4200.
I have attached the log in case you would like to take a look at it
I have started using your firmware since RAF 1.1k I dont believe having this issue before.

    DHCPDISCOVER(br0)
    DHCPOFFER(br0)
    DHCPREQUEST(br0)
    DHCPACK(br0)

Have 2 E3000s here neither of them showing over-current condition...only thing I noticed is that port 4 is port 1 but thats easy fix with "swap ports order"... I have tested all ports and none are over volting using release "T"
-edit- Just checked out 3 other E3000 test units.... all have all 5 ports in use (4 LAN + WAN) at remote locations and out of 5 routers none are showing this bug

No problems so far on all my units with latest Victek tomato beta build... One device is under heavy usage (60+ clients online) and everything is stable without problems.

Try delete NVRAM, reconfig by hand... if the problem persists, try to find what is the issue - disable all advance features and enabled them one by one...

Hi Victek! I have a question about your RAF Tomato. With QOS enabled I get a much higher speed with your version than Shibby's or Toastman's. I tried this experiment with my 118 Mbit internet connection. Did this the same night with the exact same setting. Router is a ASUS RT-N66U. NVRAM Reset between tests, hand entered settings.
Shibby's v110 with QOS activated and IP Traffic Monitoring disabled I have a max speed of 75 Mbits
Toastman 0502.8 with QOS activated with IP Traffic Monitoring disabled I have a max speed of 78 Mbits
Victek with 1.1t beta with QOS activated with IP Traffic Monitoring disabled I have a max speed of 96.5 Mbits
During these three version tests the router CPU top out at 99.5% usage.
With QOS disabled all three Tomato versions will provide my full 118 Mbit internet connection.
The question is why is your throughput so much higher than Shibby or Toastman? What are you doing different?
    Thanks!

  38. Elfew

    Elfew Addicted to LI Member

Victek has some cherry picks in code for higher speeds... it is not only with QoS, but you can achieve higher speed WAN to LAN etc. I used to Shibby build, but I needed better throughput, so I flashed Victek... it is my No1!

Good morning to all.. Beta release 'u' ready for test. Enjoy ! Changelog in the download page links.
@ hawkmat .. internal changes in netfilter, achieved the results you're talking, release u includes more optimizations you can check in the git.

Speed attained with release u is 197Mbits/down 135Mbits/upload, still far from Stock Asus firmware .... need to know something but I imagine Broadcom answer ....

I see some 'exotic' things in your router configuration... but the connect-disconnect events are provoked by battery saving status in the units... in concrete the ipad is mad crazy...
Are you using 'auto' mode to set the wireless channel? ...

  42. Victek

    Victek Network Guru Member

I think the message is 'over-current' and it's created by your fan mod provoking overload to power supply. I can't solve it, the drivers and syscontrol I'm using are not the same (it seems) as others builds, (and I like the monitoring function of the syscontrol I use), so I can't help you on it while you add unsupported mods. I will appreciate if you test the build in one standard unit.

People aren't gonna watch a 30 minute video to help debug your setup when you could post the settings and explain the config in a page or two and be read in under 2 minutes.

  45. daddygame

-_-... i did already... as u can c there are logs underneath it the video is just proof that shibby firmware fixed the problem.. so its something with his firmware that causing that error...

    Hello Victek,
I just upgraded to beta build "u". I did an NVRAM reset like advised and everything seems peachy. However I looked up at my RT-N16 and noticed the power led is off. It does come on when I do a power cycle, but once its back up and running it goes off. Not a problem for me. Im just reporting. Thanks for all the hard work!

daddygame, the message is not an error, it's one information about one modification made by you (a fan in the top) provoking an over current condition. Use the most convenient version for you... thanks.

Thank you Victeck for taking your time to look into this issue, the 5ghz was set to 'auto' mode, this was an oversight on my part when I upgraded to 1.1t. I changed the wireless channel to 153 ghz

These changes was already done in previous version (t), yes. The present version have some changes not implemented yet in other mods, but available in the git. About the hanged tx-rx .. it's something I can't do nothing since it's inherit to the driver.
For wireless USB models: rt-n53,e3200 the wireless driver is replaced... we'll see how it works...

Thank you for info. I tested today 150/100mbit connection over optic fiber. With rt-16n I got about 135mbit wan to lan for download, 90mbit for upload. It seems perfect, because I cannot get full speed with original modem from my provider - almost same results.

IPv6 is still in progress, provider has many issues with this so I cannot test it properly.

    Hi Elfew!
You are at the maximum capabilities of the RT-N16. When I saw your comment I remembered a review smallnetbuilder.com did of this router and with factory firmware it had a maximum of 140 Mbps WAN to LAN.
Actual test numbers from review: RT-N16
    Test DescriptionThroughput - (Mbps)
    WAN - LAN 141.1
    LAN - WAN 143.3
    Total Simultaneous 155.9

So 135 Mbps with Tomato is pretty good.

Yes, I saw review on smallnetbuilder.com, but it was tested with old stock firmware. I have info that with new stock fw you can achieve higher speeds. About +20%, I cannot find the link where it was mentioned... Anyway, amazing build Victek! One of the best

Dear Vicente, this is very interesting that you can try with RT-N66U. Could you please check 5gz connection if it is working permanently? It is still one of major problems described widely at Merlin's forum on smallnetbuilders. So far they have no solution. They are reporting that last broadcom driver 5110 is broken and 5GZ radion stops after some time - hours...If you read Shibbies thread on same forum here on Linksys- he returned to previous driver version 5100.
    see
(Merlin) The 5.110 driver is broken. Centrino-based wireless cards are unable to connect to the 5 GHz band when using 40 MHz channel width.
(Shibby) Thanks for new builds ! Which driver does this builds use (-110), 5.100 or 5.110 ?

    It's 5.100
What solution you have here? I was looking for driver in your logs, somehow could not find information.

Thanks valerima, you saved me a lot of time reading all the history, good resume. here are my settings:
    - I use some wireless cards to test releases, between others I use Intel Centrino Ultimate 6300N & Intel Centrino 5100agn.
    - Drivers used for these cards are 13.0.0.17 from MS Update.

    - Driver used in Tomato RAF builds for RT-N version (the only one active now) is 5.100.138.9 for wireless and 5.100.138.20 for ethernet,... yes, you read it correct, don't know if other mods are using these drivers but I like the stability of the wireless driver.
    - Both wireless card work correct in 5GHz-40MHz window.. but I'm not testing it extensively, at maximum 3-4 days until new build is burning...

Then, I expect your feedback using the last beta for RT-N66U and reporting your experience, hope it can help others too.

    Thanks!

@Elfew, you're welcome ;) I have one beta tester owning 300Mbps down/up connection, he's helping me a lot testing drivers and rates.. ;)

I forgot tips about wireless drivers in Tomato RAF, depending of the model the wireless driver changes, for pci wireless I build 5.100.138.9 or 5.100.138.20 dated end 2012, for usb wireless 5GHZ I build 5.100.138.20, dates are diverse.

5.100.138.20 is a very stable driver - the most stable from all Asus drivers IMO. Release with driver 5.110 was a test only, but in regular releases i`m still using 5.100.138.20. I will release also images with latest Asus driver. If people will say it stable, then i will switch driver to newer in regular versions.

    Best Regards.

shibby .. i tested also 5.110 series and found two problems... rssi signal with 'exotic' figures and 5GHz signal 40MHz not recognized by Intel cards.. but amazing results with Realtek wireless cards...

    edit.. 5.110

Yes, I get those erratic and very high RSSI (even positive!) values intermittently, but only on 2.4GHz.

Hi valerima, what exactly do you like to know?...
    a) Driver for RT-N66 are the same from first beta.. 5.100.138.20
    b) Driver for RT-N53 and E3200 are a new package from Netgear WNDR 4500 dated Abril 2013... so, in test.
    c) Are you using RT-N66U stock firmware? then use a normal tftp upgrade, the asus utility restoration can do the job also.. if already in tomato just upgrade from the gui.

    Thanks!

    @Victek:
Is there any chance you could update the default QOS classification rules same order (sequential) as Toastman?
You missed to include YouTube 2012 (Youtube) (as media), Google+ & Voice (as messenger), etc.

Do not advice me to go back to Toastman build as I found your build is more suitable for me.
I use OSCAM daemon (as client) and I found out the response is faster from your build.
Since in OSCAM, time is really-really critical, I rarely encounter glitch in my OSCAM client.

Everytime I update the firmware, the manual procedure in QOS classification to match as Toastman build, really annoying and took the most time of upgrade.

    TIA,
    kyrios

    @kyrios
Toastman posted his entire production QoS in the forum as a single command that you can cut and paste, then go to the QoS page to modify and save.

Ok, thanks, it's already included... ;) but in the right location..
    http://repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git/commit/449069175b86eea0c5db727bc680d9e59eadfb7d

Well it's not missed, everyone have his preferences but since I don't use QoS I didn't pay attention to this configuration, already updated for the next beta ;)

In your RT-N16 build wifi driver is that: 5.100.138.20 ?

    No, 5.100.138.9
Edit: More detail ... with wl ver.
    wl ver 5.100 RC138.20
    wl0: Aug 9 2011 09:29:42 version 5.100.138.9

So, I'm answering you right, the wl driver is 5.100.138.20 but the specific driver used is 5.100.138.9. All mods are using it as far I know.
In case of dual band wl0->5.100.138.9 and wl1 ->5.100.138.20

It would be helpful, if you could tag your releases with git tags too.:)

Helpful for who? Oh, yes, sorry .. for copy&paste 'coders' ?. I'm not lost ... ;) .. the file with changelog in my site explains what it's included on each new release with a link to the git. It says 'READ BEFORE USE... '

Such a stupid comment Elfew. The whole GPL principle is based on code sharing & cut & paste. Without it no Linux kernel, no uClibc, no Busybox.....no Tomato.

Tomato, unlike Linux, has no central co-ordination, no one person to manage it into a 1.29 release. It has fragmented into different mods with variable levels of co-ordination & sharing (cut & paste?) of updates, fixes & 'improvements' (in fact there's no real agreement on what constitutes an improvement) Each mod collects it's own ever changing set of fan boys/girls, each demanding their own set of 'improvements' and lauding the developer who gives in and gives them what they think they want. In my opinion the mod fragmentation is not helpful to Tomato's longevity, but then I think it's already dying a slow death, 'cut & paste' coders or not.

No offense, but source code is available, there is a changelog where changes are located with link to git... so why add tags?

I didnt want open a war and topic about GPL and other coders... I just wrote my opinion for tags... it is different-!

The idea behind git tags is that someone can checkout the code from a specific tag. This helps people compiling their own firmware (or debugging it) as they can easily switch to a specific point in time. For example, let's say head is at 1.50, and you suspect a bug was introduced between 1.49 and 1.50. If you have a tag pointing at the 1.49 release commit, you can use a git checkout command to switch to the code from the 1.49 release point, compile it, and do your regression tests. You could even branch out from there, and develop a parallel 1.49.1 if you wanted.

Kevin, allow me to friendly disagree with you about two subjects you pointed:
    a) About the dying a slow death to Tomato. Tomato first appearance was in 2006 for a very limited range of models, since them and thanks to the contribution of many people (including you) makes Tomato growth to be recognized as 'friendly and stable' third party firmware. One thing is for sure, I'll will not let Tomato die and I wish to count with the help and free time job done by many people visiting the forum since many years ago. My respect and thanks to all of them.

    b) When I wrote 'copy&paste' it's referred to some 'Tomato clones' in the net using the code in the git and hiding the credits to the authors, you participated one month ago in one thread after I saw that Tomato RAF version was used by one company to sale added features in their router, did you saw or got the source code of these added features? me neither, this is not GPL and this is the reason of my answer in the post. Did you saw Tomato Dual Wan source code? Did you saw Tomato source for the version sold by Ecleptical ISP allowing SIP phones? me neither. This is what I answered, nothing against users in this forum which like to modify Tomato for his home router and testing the features we add. Hope all know now the reason for the 'flowing from my heart' answer.

    Thanks!

Hi likevinli, I got too in RT-N16,RT-N66,E4200 (not in E3200 .. curious) ;) and after a reboot the error was gone, did you tried? I did another attempt to clean rules in restriction access using EasyTomato patch but it seems the 'soft-bug' still hurts...

    Thanks!

I read the changelog with the git commits, that why I suggested adding the git tags.
It would help those who look at the Tomato repo website see the changes between releases(if they were tagged) in one place.
