Thanks shibby! I checked the K26 Mini build to see if DNSCrypt was there and it's missing. Have you decided to leave it out of that build? It was also missing in 093.

    Maximum firmware size

To be on a safe side, please check the size of new firmware file before flashing it to your router. Flashing too large firmware file can brick your router.

    2MB flash chip / normal cfe (256k) : 1769472 bytes (DD-WRT Only)
    2MB flash chip / compressed cfe (128k): 1900544 bytes (DD-WRT Only)
4MB flash chip (not Netgear): 3801088 bytes
4MB flash chip Netgear routers: 3735552 bytes
    8MB flash chip: 7995392 bytes

Shibby is possible to add new feature - schedule guest wifi network radio on/off? (for example ON - from 8:00 - 12:00 and OFF from 13:00-16:00)... Now I can only set radio on/off not only guest wireless network

    thank you for answer

    Hi everyone!

Great firmware again shibby! thank you for all.
Since you haven't resolved yet the ipv6 problem, i would like to ask you something regarding the IPV6 DNS resolve.
I run the test http://test-ipv6.com/ and i get 9/10. The last voice i get bad is

Since i spoke with my ISP and they told me that with the isp modem/routers they are giving the clients nowadays they get 10/10 on this test, and the ISP resolvers are capable of reaching IPV6-only DNS servers, i would like to know if this is something that has to do with the tomato firmware.
My isp gives DHCPV6 /56 and in the static dns list i have inserted the ipv6 addresses of my ISP dns.

    Thank you for any reply.

    ### hai - I have had shibby RT version 92 running on my RT N16 and was not happy with wireless RX/TX rate as well as ftp speed (internal via usb). So I tried RAF version 11(beta) with better ftp/usb speed. ###

sorry to ask again. Shibby answered to take better the RT-build (I know) - however wanted to know if the NEW WIFI driver will be active in this 95 /or later build for RT
    2) the usb speed/ internal FTP was slower in 93 build - so any change to use the changes of RAF build -beta 11.
(USB Speed improved. Old schema detection enabled. Thanks to tvlz)
    3) have you included also the "TCP Vegas (Network Congestion Control)"
known form RAF - or why not :))

  11. shibby20

    shibby20 Network Guru Member

    1) no, between RT and RT-N is only ONE different: WL driver.

    2) checked FTP speed on WNR3500L (v1) and i have about 8MB/s well...

    3) teddy was only hide those options in GUI
    http://repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git/commit/8d6f11d00346ee58c07e9cd0b311aaeb0acc8da4

i can revert them in next build. Now you can set them via NVRAM
    nvram set ne_valpha=2
    nvram set ne_vbeta=6
    nvram set ne_vegas=0
    nvram set ne_vgamma=2
    nvram commit

    this was fast ! THX
With regard to usb/ftp - I can test this only via my external push to ftp. I updated now to your shibby V95 - and let you know. In V93 I could only get around 800k (Der Pushvorgang wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen, 1.39 GiB in 30 Minuten mit 808.94 KiB/s).
With RAF (beta11) >1,6 MB (Der Pushvorgang wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen, 1.75 GiB in 15.6 Minuten mit 1.91 MiB/s). I did so with several files and I promise this was in this range.
PLS double check this mentioned "Old schema detection enabled. Thanks to tvlz" from RAF.

PS: Would liek to see TCP Vegas GUI - however not yet saw any differences as it was enabled.
In PRAXIS has somebody good experience ???
My understanding is that ECN (Congestion Notification)is "enabled" by default and "Vegas" will be on top ....

    what about "CTF (Cut-Through Forwarding)
This is great ! Why not "eabled" by default (under miscellaneous) as I noticed real speed improvement.
THX for all your work. br Zong

    PS: usb/ftp speed verified !!
my ftp-push to usb (shibby95) is still lower as with RAF.
To better check - I use an normal fast USB-stick (8GB) with FAT32.
So this has to do with usb-speed or FAT32. / Will check NTFS
(Der Pushvorgang wurde erfolgreich abgeschlossen, 2.32 GiB in 41.4 Minuten mit 978.51 KiB/s)

One more INFO with attached question.
I noticed that with enabled QoS (shibby standard settings), my performance "downstream" was around 22Mbits/s (from 30-32). I tried several versions (RAF/toastman) with different results depending on their "settings". Result was mainly around 24-26Mbits/s. In latest shibby - I tried now to set the "inbound classes" MEDIA to 80% and DOWNLOAD to -None- ! By this have 29-30 Mbits - combined with the CTF enabled (as mentioned before).
Is this ok ? - understood that defined DOWNLOAD is no longer be measured &limited, however will higher defined traffic role still be prioritized ?

On top I tried "Use dnscrypt-proxy" (under network config) and noticed that a bit of performance is eaten ..
Why - as i thought this will be only the DNS info exchance (so maybe ping-time).
If using this feature - did I need to use special aware DNS proxy or can I still you with "8.8.8.8" or free university proxy.

Thanks shibby for 095. Just upgraded from 087v to 095 in the past half day or so, and it seems to run fine.

Briefly tested for "ug" errors, as I am running RT-N66U. It's the first time I have seen this test working properly (as stated in your changelog). Does having no "ug" errors mean an even more stable N66U as well?

Hi shibby. Why the own embedded MAC-address of router is not used in your mod, and 00:00...02 is used instead.

Quick question (sorry if already answered): I know that you cannot delete a virtual wireless adapter once created but should the SSID still broadcast if the virtual wireless adapter is disabled? I have disabled it and the name still broadcasts and then I renamed it and the original name is still broadcasting. Not sure what to make of it. Might clear out NVRAM to see if it fixes it.

    @Shibby

I'm using 093-aio and when I use BW-limiter and Br0 and Br1. Br1 limit doesn't include in "Max Available Download".
Is Br1 stand alone or included in Max Available Download? Now it's Br0+Br1 speed limit.

    kthaddock

  20. shibby20

    shibby20 Network Guru Member

no, br1 is a subclass of br0. Well you have to enable br0 and define max speeds of you internet.

  21. kthaddock

    kthaddock Network Guru Member

    Okey.
I have that setup and I get Br0+Br1 speed. I have setup clients to Br0 and "Max Available Download" and all downloading I get that result.

64k NVRAM for RT-N66U! Apparently ASUS has released the sources for this, and someone has compiled a 3rd party firmware with 64K NVRAM for this router:

    http://www.lostrealm.ca/asuswrt-merlin

    Shibby,

Could this be incorporated into your build for RT-N66U? This has been the ONLY thing holding me back from getting this router. If this can be done, I'll go buy one right now :)

  25. Dark_Shadow

    Dark_Shadow Addicted to LI Member

It's his version of the OEM Asus firmware

Also source code is known by all third party firmware dev's

  26. GhaladReam

    GhaladReam Network Guru Member

Will it involve upgrading the CFE or is the 64K NVRAM fix simply in the fw itself?

  27. Dark_Shadow

    Dark_Shadow Addicted to LI Member

Well from what I have read from merlan, Asus' source code is firmware only. His build for the 66U is a Firmware only change. He reports that him nor none of the people downloading his firmware are seeing any issues. I don't know what it will take to backport it to 3rd party firmwares.

Regarding the ipv6 problem still in work, i would also like to add that with a tun openvpn connection i created, ipv6 does not pass to the client.
This is maybe because ipv6 in tun is like different bridges who also have the same problem. Just inform you through my personal experience in order to make your firmware perfect man.

Elfew, I think it would probably be easier to isolate the problem if you provide additional information such as what services you are using. Transmission etc?

no wifi problems with my N16 - however I noticed NOT TO MEASURE Noice floor. I tried an by this goes down. Needed to hard rebbot and load "config file". Since this load is available I have a good and stable running system :))

TOR project is a good idea :) - I still think to use VPN to hide/unbreak some services.
    Question to ALL.

    1) Is OPENVPN -privattunnel "https://www.privatetunnel.com/index.php/price.html" what you would recommend for "lower utilization". Not willing to pay > 60$/y.
    2) If I setup this in "VPN tunneling" - assume that START WITH WAN is the "box" in which I can choose to enable/disable the usage of VPN. I hope there is no REBOOT necessary -or ?
    3) @shibby and all experts. Can I define a CUSTOM SCRIPT for the button - like "[ $1 -ge 20 ] && telnetd -p 233 -l /bin/sh" to toggle or only ENABLE this "START with WAN".
    4) for what is the predefined "[ $1 -ge 20 ] && telnetd -p 233 -l /bin/sh" standing for

When using the BitTorrent client, do you have to add a port forward for it or does it do it itself?

  48. Ed50547

    Ed50547 Network Guru Member

It takes care of the port forwarding itself.

  49. zong

    zong Serious Server Member

is there nobody who can help me to find the "right custom script" for enable/toggle the VPN function.
After using now this service (privattunnel) - the right task for the script is "START NOW" (STOP NOW) - under VPN Client /Basic. So not the "Start with WAN" as indicated earlier.

On top it would be great to DEFINE the VPN CLIENT SERVICE also for selective LAN ports (similar as shibby was showing for TOR project). So as now implemented (autostart with WAN) for all clients is not perfect.
to explain: I have a media player connected on LAN4. Would be great to give him the VPN access - while staying with my PCs an "normal" IP- address.

If this is to "complicated" - maybe implement an "switch" activated by requesting an defined "internal IP", to START/STOP the VPN Client service. So no need to login into the router :)

Do you think there will be support for the WNDR4000? It seems like such a nice piece of hardware, but linksys firmware keeps it a door stop.. lol Thank you for your hard work and efforts regardless.

If this router act as internal one behind upper gateway, need to add NAT on the gateway device.

    Shibby,

I beleive there is something wrong with the UPS monitor. I bought a new APC UPS, which works fine when I connect to my PC, but I cannot get it to work on build 095 (have not tested any other build). Even without the UPS unplugged from the RT-N66U, I get the following error:

    Shibby,

Would it be possible to improve the UPS monitoring? What I would love, is a feature that could e-mail me an alert (by specifying an smtp server) when the battery drops below a certain charge %, or have the router perform certain tasks (such as shut down or NVRAM commit for example) when the battery charge drops below a certain % as well.

This would tell me if and when there is a power outage, if I am away. I also think e-mail alerts for other events such as WAN going down or high bandwiidth usage etc... would be awesome!

I am running a vpnclient and torrentclient on wnr3500lv2. Ive got 100/100 mbit internet and my vpn usually maxes out on about 50/50 (anonine). However the router can only give about 8.5mbit up and downstream running openvpn with 2048bit encryption. Torrents max out on maybe 3-4mbit with no vpn running.

I guess this is because of the slow cpu on this router. I tried overclocking it but there wasnt much difference.

I really love this firmware, so im thinking about getting a rt66. What kind of speeds can i expect with that router? Is there any other good alternative?

    Thanks

you need an x86 based lan router to handle 100mb/s VPN and torrents and you can use your wnr3500lv2 as AP only.
any Intel dual-core Atom or AMD APU should be just fine - small enough and not very expensive - just make sure it has 2 LAN ports on the MB

In the Stock RT-N66U firmware, there is a hidden page which shows the current core temperature of the router. That page can be accessed (on stock firmware) by going to http://<router_ip>/Advanced_PerformanceTuning_Content.asp

Is there any way we can add this information into your build, possibly on the Overview page? Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

Thx for the reply maurer. I was hoping that i could avoid having to build it myself, partly because of price and electricity consumption, but mainly because I dont know the first thing about linux programming. Maybe youre right though and thats the only way to get enough power out of it. No hopes of running tomato on a x86 based system? ;)

It looks like that version of tomato is too big for the E3000. The same version for the 95 release was 7.6 MB. So you can either go back to the 95 release or use a different one on the 97 release for your E3000.

Is it possible to have a K26 version for MIPSR1 (for my old WRT54GL) with VPN (both openvpn and PPTP server ) under 3.9 MB in size.
Basically the Mini version with VPN servers. Something like tomato-K26-1.28.RT-MIPSR1-097-Mini-VPN.

I see you have the tomato-K26-1.28.RT-MIPSR1-097-IPv6-VPN but this one is too big (4.2Mb) for the WRT54GL. Maybe if you remove the ipv6 and few other things...

Shibby, the WiFi just disappeared for no reason until I restarted the router.

I'm using this shibby load -> tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-097-AIO.trx, on the RT-N66U and each time I reboot the router, I lose the 2.4G wifi. The 5G wifi stays up. Is there any known workaround other than reset and hold down WPS for 30 secs each time?

If not, is this on all shibby loads? Can anyone recommend a more stable load build?

Just ordered an RT-N66U, can't wait to test it.

Shibby, I see you have both: Asus RT-N16, and Asus RT-N66U. I was thinking of either getting one of these, or a NAS box that supports optware for transmission (I wouldn't have much else running on it). Do/did you use a swap file for memory on either router, and what do you think of running transmission on either without a swap file?

Running it on the RT-N16 one, works just fine. 093 atm though.

    No swap needed.

Thank for the info. Any specific reason you're running .093 as opposed to .097 or other newer version, or just haven't upgraded because it's working fine?

It's because it is working fine and because I recently got my second kid so time has been limited, though I am a bit interested in TOR, so next opening in the schedule there might just be an upgrade. :)

is there anyway to migrate torrent files and start seeding from my router's transmission client. I want to migrate from VUZE that is on my desktop. I am using ASUS RT-N16- Shibby's tomato-K26USB-1.28.RTMIPSR2-097-AIO
