    Hi all,
i would like to ask a question maybe someone can help me. I have an E3000 latest shibby version and i would like to install on my network a wrt160nv3 in wds mode.
Since from my provider i have full IPV6 support (which works correctly with my E3000 10/10 IPV6 tests), i would like to know, in order to make ipv6 work correctly on the devices that would be connected to the wrt160nv3 (wan type:disabled/ wds mode) is it nessesary that the wrt160nv3 has a firmware version with ipv6 (mini-ipv6)or the mini tomato version will do the job as well?
The reason i ask is that the newer mini-ipv6 versions don't fit on the router (MTD problem).

Thank you in advance for any answers

    string was added to tomato:
    http://repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git/commit/50a7adb7c20523dd6874d2fa90bece510850ab14

but not as module but build-in kernel ;)
You don`t have to load any of modules. Just launch your iptables rules :)

The following problems still exist using the latest shibby (tomato-NDUSB-1.28.5x-110-BT-VPN) on my WRTSL54GS

    1. When a ethernet cable is plugged into port 1, the WAN port also shows it's connected on the 'overview' page.
    2. I can't save a new VIF. After I add the interface and then save it it disappears.
    3. Also, I can't do these steps trying to create a 'repeater'.

    Code:
    1) Make sure you have a VLAN build of Tomato installed. I have a build of Toastman installed and I got it working. Unfortunately, I could not get it working properly on Shibby without having to always release and renew the DHCP address, so perhaps it's a bug. In addition, be sure to reset the router to default settings. This is to lesses change of some unknown configuration preventing the setup from working. To do so go to Administration --> Configuration. Under "Restore Default Configuration" NVRAM reset. Wait for about 5 minutes before proceeding.

    2) (Optional) Change the IP address of the router to something like 192.168.93.1 and the DHCP range to something like 192.168.93.2-192.168.93.50. Conflicts can happen if the hotel network and the repeater network are on the same subnet. 192.168.93.1 is isolated enough so the chances of a conflict occuring is minimal.

    3) Change the Wireless Mode to "Wireless Client". Enter the SSID and configure the security for the network you want to repeat. This has to be done manually.

    4) Click save. Wait 2 minutes. At this point, your ethernet ports should work though this subnet and you should be getting internet. If you are getting internet, you are ready go continue.

    5) Go to Advanced --> Virtual Wireless. Create the "wl0.1" interface. Enter your desired SSID. For mode, select "Access Point". For bridge, select "LAN (bro0)". Click add.

    6) Enter your desired security settings. Then click "Overview" at the bottom right. Remember, your WPA/WPA2 password must be at least 8 characters.

    7) Click "Save" at the bottom right. Wait 2 minutes.

    8) Unplug and plug back your router. Wait 3 minutes.
    Any thoughts?

I don't *KNOW* the answer but, since WDS is effectively a Layer 2 link between to wireless interfaces, br0 should bridge any L2 frames between eth1 (the wireless I/F) and vlan0 of the local switch without caring what protocol is travelling across. You'll have to try it and see. But I would advise you to run a bit of copper between the 2 routers as soon as possible - seriously, bridging wireless is asking for trouble!

  13. nick ant0ny

    nick ant0ny Networkin' Nut Member

Thank you for the answer. I know that the copper is the best solution but the instsallation will be between two apartments ( i wan to share my internet connection to my parents house on the under floor) so it's a bit difficult. The WDS seems the easiest solution to do, that's why i asked here, before procceding with installation and making any tests.

    Thank you.

    Hi all!

I've been using toamto on my RT-N16 for some time and it's awesome.
I just wanted to point out some great software that I use on my router (from optware) and it would be nice to have them integrated into the firmware with nice GUI (if possible):

    - castget - 1.0.1-2 - castget is a simple, command-line based RSS enclosure downloader, primarily intended for automatic, unattended downloading of podcasts
    - nano - 2.2.6-1 - A pico like editor
    - openssh-sftp-server - 5.9p1-1 - sftp-server only from a FREE version of the SSH protocol suite of network connectivity tools
    - rsync - 3.0.9-1 - fast remote file copy program (like rcp)
    - asterisk18 - 1.8.17.0-1 - Asterisk is an Open Source PBX and telephony toolkit

So with castget I download automatically my podcast, then I acces them with the openssh-sftp-server, and when I need I do a rsync of some folder between the HDD of my router and my PC. Asterisk is nice for an internal phone system.

BTW: How can I make sure asterisk doesn't die. For it to start with the router I've put "asterisk -vvv" in the Init script but how can I check that it is still running and if not, restart it; something like "Keep Alive" for Transmission.

    Can you explain? Thanks.
If I remember correctly, sd-idle does not spindown immediately and, furthermore, the shutdown script is fired before drives has been unmounted and services turned off. :S

    @Shibby
    Is it possible to:

Remove UpnP check when no Listen on LAN is set, so you can use custom config even if you have only one Br0, LAN bridge configured. (see pic)
Now I have to make a "dummy" LAN bridge to get my UpnP custom rule working.

    Thank you

but br0=LAN bridge. Just check: Listen on "LAN".

  18. kthaddock

    kthaddock Network Guru Member

You can't enable Upnp you must choose a LAN. When you choose LAN then you can't make your own settings.
you can't do like this then on Br0 (yes CDIR working)

i think i can add something like: Listen on "my own settings". what do you think?

  20. kthaddock

    kthaddock Network Guru Member

Yes that should work, but easyiest is to remove "NAT-PMP or UPnp must be enabled in least one LAN bridge"
    check and use custom box.

    kthaddock

  21. shibby20

    shibby20 Network Guru Member

but many of users (including me) will not remember about this and they will not checked any of LAN and miniupnpd will not start. Listen on "use custom configuration only" will be IMO good solution.

  22. kthaddock

    kthaddock Network Guru Member

Okey, I didn't thought about that, custom config would be OK. But is it possible to choose tex Br0 as custom and Br1 to Br3 as usually. Maby you only want to custom one bridge.

Bug found in v110 on an E3000:

I cannot delete access restriction rules.

I can make new ones, or edit existing ones, but if I press the delete button, the button itself vanish and nothing else happen after that.

sd-idle is a daemon that spins down HDDs after a specified time of inactivity (minimum timer is 5 minutes if I recall). So no, it's not immediate.

I'm trying to find out which wireless drivers the different Shibby versions have.
I updated from 104 to 110 and the quality of the wireless network dropped from excellent to poor. Every 7th ping package has a > 700 ms latency.

The official changelog is a bit sparse on the Broadcom driver versions. :)
It looks like after build 93 the version has been 5.100.138.20?

I use this as the init scripts:
    Code:
    # Auto mount SWAP and OPTWARE partitions
    echo "#device Mountpoint FStype Options Dump Pass#" >> /etc/fstab
    echo "LABEL=SWAP none swap sw 0 0" >> /etc/fstab
    echo "LABEL=OPTWARE /opt ext3 rw,nodev,noatime 1 1" >> /etc/fstab
    # Needed for terminal to accept ARROW KEYS in SSH connections
    echo "export TERM=linux" >> /root/.profile
    echo "export TERMINFO=/opt/share/terminfo" >> /root/.profile
    # Create SymLink to /opt/.mc in /root/ for use in Midnight Commander
    ln -s /opt/.mc /tmp/home/root/.mc
The problem is that using this all works except:
    Code:
    # Needed for terminal to accept ARROW KEYS in SSH connections
    echo "export TERM=linux" >> /root/.profile
    echo "export TERMINFO=/opt/share/terminfo" >> /root/.profile
Because obviously Arrow Keys don't work and /root/.profile file has only this line:
    Code:
    /usr/sbin/mymotd
I think MYMOTD script erases /root/.profile with a blank file, I noticed this just now, but probably it's broken from when you included the MYMOTD script v109...
P.S.: I disabled MYMOTD and everything works as expected...

  53. Mihai Olimpiu-Cristian

    Mihai Olimpiu-Cristian Serious Server Member

@ Shibby: Ok, it seems to work, but the way I see it, the problem with the script still remains, instead of adding that one line "/usr/sbin/mymotd" to /root/.profile it reinitialize the file, and well not everyone has a HDD attached to use /opt (although to use MC you need a hdd attached).

Those lines were added because, well it was an old post of yours in wich you suggested to add them to /root/.profile, to make MC usable without relearning the keys everytime...

Sorry to be such a pain, anyway thanks for your input!
P.S.: I'm more of a noob on linux, so if I made you laugh just ignore me...

@Salar, no they're not device specific I use the same router and I flashed K26RT-N: Asus RT-Nxx/tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-110-BT-VPN.trx
You have to be careful to choose MIPS2 and 32kNVRAM

No, I mean RT-N. Device specific builds have the model in the file name.

Shibby arguably has the folder mis-named as "Asus RT-Nxx" but the builds are for any units not requiring a device specific build, regardless of vendor.

Yes, I realize this. However I don't have any intel cards nor do I use 5Ghz. The devices I DO use experience much higher performance however. For this reason I think it would be great if shibby released an "ND" release and a regular version of each build going forward...That is until such an occasion if/when broadcom releases an even newer driver with the Centrino cards & 5Ghz fixed, at that point just use that driver.

This could be a bug but very well could be a design choice, but I want to know the answer.
I'm always connected trough VPN - PPTP Client at home router (Shibby) connects to PPTP Server at work. If I save the settings in BitTorrent Client GUI, VPN connnection is lost. Shouldn't it only restart Transmission-daemon?
Connection gets started only by restarting the office router (restart PPTP Server), could be a bug on DD-WRT side ;).
To help you, I think it's some kind of rooting ptoblem, because the telnet connection still stays active, I can modify the home router files and access TOP in real time, but the home router just doesn't respond to ping or any other connection :(

@Shibby.. Thanks for the great firmware. :)

I'm having a problem after recently upgrading to Shibby Mod build 110.

WAN connection mysteriously died without any trace in the log.
DHCP renew fixed the problem. So I decided to enable the "reconnect every hours" under Scheduler. It's not ideal, WAN connection is lost more than once per hours I still need to renew the DHCP manually

I'm using Linksys E3000 + cable modem connection. There is also another user with similar problem with E3000 + shibby:
    http://tomatousb.org/forum/t-664764/e3000-110-vpn-losing-connection-to-wan
So I think I'm not alone here..
BTgui-VPN and BT-VPN, both has the same problem.

I have tested and can confirm the previous build I used (102) does not have this kind of problem.

I want to fill bug report, but it'll be meaningless if this bug isn't reproduceable and more importantly no log to support my report. :(

Any advice on how to make Tomato logging more verbose?

    Hi Shibby,

    As you requested I tested build 108 & 109. 106,107,108 and 109
Apparently the problem started on build 109 107 onward. I'm currently running build 108 and I haven't lost my WAN connection. It's been ~12 hours since the router bootup. Build 107 & 108 also has this bug. Currently testing build 106, so far so good. Will update later.

Regarding the nvram erasure, no.. I haven't do that. Since I've read on original Tomato FAQ that Tomato will upgrade the old config if necessary. I started using Shibby since build 90~ish and upgrading without nvram erase worked for me until build 102 :p
I'll keep note of your advice.

FWIW I tried nvram erasure on build 109 & 110.. on default settings the WAN connectivity would stay.
So yeah, this bug can only reproduced on certain config.

If the problem stops after an NVRAM erase, then the problem isn't in the build, it's in your saved NVRAM config. NVRAM erase and rebuild it from scratch.

I'm sorry to ask this but I've been looking for 3 days. I have a WL-520GU and want a firmware with a BT Client builtin. Which version do I need? Thanks and sorry for the interruption.

@salar, please report back on when you get a chance to try this. I have a 4301 that I would like to upgrade from RT to RT-N build.

    Thank you.

    Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR1-110 K26 USB AIO

Problem: during router inactivity, only iphone connected, DHCP lease time set to 7days. My router internet will lose connection, rebooting or use "release and renw IP" will not get my internet connection back.
Only solution, I needed to turn off-on, physically, power off-on my ISP modem and router. I'm on dynamic IP, it seems that router can't handle IP change situation during idle moment. Any idea?

Note: If I use usb internet radio to continue play on idle, internet won't die.

Yes @asammer, you can go ahead and install RT-N build on your belkin 4301 without any problem. Mine is working fine.

Feature Request: Use dnscrypt-proxy for IPv6 as well.

A second instance of dnscrypt-proxy needs to be run with --local-address={::1}:40 instead.

    Hi,

Sorry for my noobish, but to install this I just have to execute the follow command in SSH?
    ipkg install transmission_2.80-1_mipsel.ipk

Is transmission going to be installed in the righ path? I'm not using Opt.

    Hi all!
    Hi Shibby!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you!

Finding, choosing and installing a Shibby-mod was uncomplicated. That's good!
I also found, chose and installed a Toastman-mod. That was not uncomplicated, but thanks to the "introduction" I'd got through my Shibby-mod, it was manageable.
    ;-)

I don't know how I'll continue. Maybe I'll stick with this Toastman-mod, maybe I'll change again, but anyhow: I perceive you as pretty much of a collective. You are individuals, yes, but you all contribute with improvements, that (if they are really good) may be borrowed into other mods too.

Personally, I am not really interested lots of "extra" features in the routers. In them I wish to see router-features, as for instance good and efficient QoS-implementations.

    Shibby,

It looks like a new official firmware was released for the RT-N66U yesterday on the ASUS download site, and it looks like this new version comes with an even newer Broadcom driver which supposedly fixes the 5Ghz issue. Has anyone tested this, and, could a build be compiled with this new driver?

It's still the same driver as in 370, and it's still broken. The changelog was probably just blindly copy/pasted from the RT-AC66U (that's why it also talks about beamforming, which does not apply to the RT-N66U either).

Ah, that's a shame.. I've since rolled back to 110 with the 5.100 wireless driver. My XBOX360's 5Ghz wifi adapter does NOT like the 5.110 driver at all.

Hi shibby, i recently get a 200Mbps/10Mbps cable connection and with my RT N16 i can't go higher than 130Mbps with QoS off and few options on (i don't use BT, VPN, USB nor FTP. Without i'm at ~197. With QoS i can't go higher than 80. How can i go near 200Mbps on wan ? Already tried to virtually change the RJ 45 port (just to be sure it was working normally) but it is the same.

    Thanks in advance.

PS : i'm on the 110. Tried both new driver preview and normal build. It's almost the same. Even with CTF on on test build.

Your results are at the limits for an RTN16. It has been discussed pretty extensively in other threads. Some have reported better throughput with Victek's latest TomatoRAF, but there isn't a Tomato router that will give you a full 200mbps, not even the RTN66U.

Maybe, building your own router will accomplish this. There is iso that you can download that allows your old pc turn into powerful router. Sorry, I can't remember the name of software.

pfsense. The name is in the logo on the top left of the video. :)

An old PC with an x86 router distro will handle 200mbps with QoS and more. If you go that route, attach your N16 as a wireless AP.

There are some recent threads on this topic. Some of them are informative.

    Good luck!

    Hello guys,

After i log in to my router, i see this message: Tomato by Shibby undefined is now available

When i click on the link, i don't find any informations about this?

    Why is this showing up?

Option " Tomato Update Notification System " is not enabled.

    Thanks

Sorry for the late update, this is false positive. Turns out the cable modem was faulty. Since it's been replaced Tomato is running as smooth as butter. :D

How can I use the Keep alive function from the command line with another program than transmission? And where should I put the command to make sure the process is always restarted if it dies?

I believe, scheduler is sufficient to perform this task. You just need to write script that will check if that application is still running and doing simple re-launching if not running.
