I've started to commit changes from Netgear sources, these will need to be vetted and may need to be config flag sensitive. Currently these are just quick comments on the merges, I've tried to alert if they may break things. https://github.com/Lightsword1942/asuswrt-merlin/commits/R7000 If anyone wants to start going through and weed some stuff out that would be helpful.

I've basically flagged any kernel differences that may be relevant. The patches are from older source so if it is entirely duplicated functionality the patch should not be merged as the original is newer. The reference source is here that I'm comparing https://github.com/Lightsword1942/R7000 .

    Thanks for reply!
I tried this, but I have not noticed any difference in WAN-LAN throughput on RT-N16. There was about 120 Mbps +/- a few Mbps without and with bcm_nat.
PS: dmesg showed that bcm_nat was loaded.

My RT-N66U sometimes stops talking to my browser with 114 ... stopping the load and hitting refresh usually brings it back but I've never had this problem before?

Even if you wanted it for some other feature, the amount of dependencies listed in your link is too much. Those dependencies are for video transcoding though, and some are not very small.

Just for the challenge, I compiled HandBrakeCLI for mips. I know it's completely pointless, but it was a good learning experience. Handbrake has an obscene amount of dependencies.
Anyway, I grabbed a 2-second 720p mp4 video clip off youtube, and transcoded it to an mkv. It took 1 1/2 hours.

Oh nevermind then. :) What I really want is for minidlna to display and play more file types. A lot of the files I have had to convert to mp4 to play them.

It would be pretty slick, if the router could handle it. I originally used my router for streaming. WDTV will stream everything no problem from the router. That was an investment well worth it. Now I've moved to a dedicated linux box, but still use the wdtv.

The new ARM ones might but no way thats going to work on mips.

I finally took the plunge and upgraded from 102 to 114 on my N66U.

I tried the SDK6 release, but my 2.4GHz signal dropped approximately 6-7db. This was quite noticeable, as my speedtest download from my wifi client went down to under 20Mbps. Once I switched back to the SDK5 release, I was able to sustain close to 40Mbps no problems. This wifi client has pretty crappy signal to my router, so I take every +db I can!

The RX rate was also showing as 4294967 with the SDK6 release I had. Once I switched to the SDK5 release, the RX rate was fine.

I had erased the nvram and manually inputted my settings between upgrades.

I have no problem running 2 torrent simultaneous and still able to surf without any issue.
Trick is, you need to control the allocated peers per torrent, global peers and you need to have swap

    Hi Shibby,

I'm trying to create a wireless bridge with two E2500s using only the 5GHz band. With 114, I'm having trouble getting a PC on one side of the bridge to connect to anything attached to the LAN ports on the other side. Here's the setup:

    Code:
    (192.168.0.1) (192.168.1.1) (192.168.1.2) (192.168.1.99)
    (DSL modem)-----(E2500 #1) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ (E2500 #2)-------(Laptop)
                         | |
                         | |
                     (Obi 110) (Obi 100)
                   (192.168.1.11) (192.168.1.10)
The goal is to extend a landline phone over wireless using the two Obihai VOIP adapters (the Obi 110 connects directly to the POTS telephone network, and the Obi 100 has a regular POTS phone attached). Both the Obi 100 and 110 are connected to the LAN ports of the E2500s. Static IP addresses are assigned to both Obihai units by E2500 #1.

Using E2500 #1 as an Access Point and E2500 #2 as a Wireless Ethernet Bridge, I can connect to the web interfaces of both #1 and #2 from my laptop, which is connected to #2 via Ethernet to a LAN port. Internet surfing from the laptop works great as well. However, I can't access the web interface of the Obi 110 on the other side of the bridge.

If I go to the Tools screen on E2500 #1, I can run a successful traceroute from E2500 #1 to the Obi 110. I can also access the DSL modem over the bridge through the WAN port. But trying to reach anything attached to the LAN ports of E2500 #1 while connected via Ethernet to E2500 #2 fails.

This exact setup works fine with Victek's latest firmware (both 1.2 stable and beta), but I can't get it to work with your 114 firmware. Victek's 5GHz support for the E2500 isn't working for me at the moment, and 2.4GHz is way too congested where I live for this to work consistently.

Thanks for any help! Let me know if you need more config details.

Wapcaplet, I'm experiencing the same issue. Clients in my network connected to a secondary bridged device cannot access clients on a different bridged device. Not sure if it's a setting or what the issue is exactly. Clients connected to the main gateway can access all devices.

    I need 2a03:7380:300:1::a1/64 on vlan2, 2a03:7380:300:1a::1/64 on br0 and dnsmasq announced 2a03:7380:300:1a::0/64 to LAN, am I right?
I think GUI should have option to set WAN IPv6, or I misunderstand something.

PS: my ISP doesn't have DHCPv6 now.

    Mr. Shibby

I had been a happy user of shibby's tomato 1.28 MIPSR2 110 on my belkin F7D3302, but only till I tried to upgrade to latest 114 build. During upgrade I ignored to clear NVRAM. The upgrade was seemingly successful. But my router did not reboot completely. Now I am stuck with inaccessible router. No telnet/ping access. When power on a constant green led on. Please help how I can reboot/reset it.

This has been reported for the Belkin routers..

Boot into the CFE, load the mini .bin image, then reload 112 or prior.

    Greetings Tomato community,

Please allow me to apologize ahead of time for any scatter-brained'ness or information that I may be leaving out. I'm a bit saturated as I write this.

I have a weird issue with WDS that I am hoping someone has seen before and perhaps even resolved. I have searched high and low, RTFMd & STFWd and have come up empty.

My configuration consists of 2 asus RT-N66U routers with Shibby 112 aio 64k. The one I'll call 'gate' is the main unit with a WAN connection to the internet. The other I'll call 'wds1' which is acting as a N-Only WDS bridge on 5GHz to another room for wired clients only (no repeater operation for wireless clients is desired).

Here's the 'problem'... If I set both ends' wireless mode to 'WDS' with WPA2-AES and the proper SSID, the connection between the routers is only established at 20MHz, regardless of the setting in the GUI. The main status page even erroneously states 40MHz, but the client connection page reveals a 195/195 connection. A quick check of the throughput also confirms that this is only a 20MHz link.

Here's the rub... If I set them to AP+WDS they will establish a 40MHz link. The client connection page will show 450/450. A quick check of throughput also confirms that the link is established at 40MHz this way.

While it's great that I have found a work-around to do what I want, it's not ideal. I don't want to allow wireless clients to connect to either 5GHz radio. For now I'm using the mac filter and 'max wireless clients' to do so.

Making wds1 into a 'wireless ethernet bridge' is not an option because that is the plan for the 2.4GHz radio in the unit once (if) I get this quibble ironed out. Both radios cannot be in 'wireless ethernet bridge' mode simultaneously.

I have tried changing from n-only to auto, with and without STP (not that it should be needed as there are no loops in the topology), various preamble modes starting with greenfield, then brcm-greenfield, then mixed mode, then auto) to no avail.

Is there something simple I am overlooking? (probably...)

    Thanks for reading.

    Hello to all,
    I have a question:

do you think these rules can be set on tomato shibby?

    IPTABLES -A INPUT -i br1 -p tcp -m tcp -s x.x.x.x -d y.y.y.y --dport 3389 -m state --state NEW -j ACCEPT

the purpose is to allow only one client in specific subnet (x.x.20.x) to make rdesktop on all computer in the subnet y.y.1.0

Thank you in advance for your suggestions

from v114 to current, after successful completed transmission write to NFS server, mounted harddisk dis-mounted, no swap and /opt. Need to restart the router is my current remedy.
Note: Looks like usb hub hardware temporary failure. Needed to pull usb hub cable and reconnect before rebooting. If not pull, usb hard disk connected on hub will not be detected also. Any idea what could cause it?

This temporary usb hub malfunction only occurs if I use download directory to NFS server location.

Just upgraded RT-N66U from v114 to v115. All fine now, however I did have one problem - after flashing I could no longer connect to the 5Ghz. I could see it there, but my laptop (mac) could not connect to it and the computer kept asking for the password even though it was already stored permanently in the computer's keychain and the SSID remained the same. As a guess, I tried changing the MAC address of the eth2 interface (5Ghz wifi) and rebooted the computer. Now everything works fine.
PS - Thanks for the continued updates! The RT-N66U running Shibby AIO is a sweet setup...

Tomato-RT-N66U_RT-AC6x-115-AIO-64k on RT-N66U has the same problem as the version 114.
Both wireless (2.4 and 5) workingn at 20MHz, although I have set them (in Basic/Network) at 40MHz.
Shibby, please can you fix this problem?

Hi, I think I've just bricked a Belkin N600 Max router.

    1. I have a perfectly working flash on an other router from the exact same model number: Belkin F7D4301 running with "tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-101-VPN.trx"
    2. I bought an other refurbished F7D4301 from eBay
    3. I did reset from GUI and installed DD-WRT mini (dd-wrt.v24-21061_NEWD-2_K2.6_mini.bin) on it.
    4. Reboot to DD-WRT is perfect, I set up admin and password
    5. Inside DD-WRT mini GUI, I click firmware upgrade, select "tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-115-BTgui-VPN.trx" and let it go. I did NOT select "restore defaults after upgrade".
    6. The counter starts going down from 360 seconds, at 90 seconds it start rebooting
    7. It shows an empty website at 192.168.1.1, ASKING FOR DD-WRT PASSWORD.
I tried my DD-WRT password, admin:admin, root:admin, password:password, a lot of combinations but none of them worked.

I am surprised that it still says DD-WRT and not Tomato. The password screen is non-GUI, just the basic HTTP authentication screen. After a few minutes of trying, I try to power-cycle the router.

Since this moment, the router I think is bricked, there is no network cable connection detected in the laptop. I tried 30/30/30 with the WPS button and 30/30/30 with the reset button, but it doesn't help. Simple no lights, no network cable.

Can you tell me what happened and probably what did I do wrong?

    Hi,

I have an issue that has been happening for some time now and I am wondering if anyone knows how to fix this. Before you ask, I did not try a clear NVRAM, as I am not sure if it is config issue or hardware.

I have a RT-N16 running Shibby 114-VPN. There is a USB thumbdrive connected to the router, just to save logs of the router. At random times, the Internet will drop and the router seems to restart, but only the router part and not the switch part. It may sounds weird, but all my LAN access still works, but no Internet nor WLAN for a minute, then everything comes back. I cannot ping the router while Internet is not working but I can still ping other devices connected by RJ45 cable and access them. When the router comes back, as well as Internet, the uptime has been reset to 0 in the Tomato GUI. So it really seems as if the device restarts, but only the router part of it. I guess the router is responsable for WLAN/AP as well, which is why it does not work. There is nothing in the log file. Unless there are logs somewhere else using SSH ? I only checked the logs on the GUI.

My USB thumbdrive has a LED on it to show that there is power and activity. When the issue happens, the LED is OFF. When the LED is ON, I know that my router is back online.

I don't know if this is a hardware issue or software issue. Anyone has clues/ideas ?

    Thank you,

    Neo.

I can confirm this on my RT-N66U as well. Also, in Device List, entries are still showing rates of 4294967 under TX/RX Rate. It doesn't seem to be affecting the quality of the wireless connections, it's just slightly annoying.

I've never managed to get any of the 4301/4302/3301/3302 routers bricked. Unfortunately, I don't know how to help if holding the WPS button won't get you into the CFE.

    But....

For future reference, DO NOT bother loading a DD-WRT or Tomato .bin image on the 4301/8301, it is wasted effort. You can directly load a standard Tomato .trx image directly from the regular Belkin GUI (or the CFE mini server). We never bother with the CFE at all on the 4301/8301 and just flash from the regular GUI.

This is different from the 3301/3302/4302/7301/7302/8302 which do require a tailed image. For those routers, we use Toastman's model specific .bin images for the initial flash. Not a particular endorsement of Toastman over Shibby, just we first used Toastman, and keep an old set of his .bins around for the initial flash before we move on to the current Toastman/Shibby/Victek version.

I have currently running tomato-RT-N66U_RT-AC6x--114-AIO-64K and want to upgrade to
    tomato-RT-N66U_RT-AC6x--115-AIO-64K!
    1)
Do I need to clear the NVRAM?
    2)
Is the paragon NTFS driver used as default driver or do we need to activate it with a script like on the video on you homepage?

you might try a more powerful powersupply. note the DC "A" or "mA" rating of the current adapter, and augment by at least 500 mA or 0.5 A. the DC V value must remain the same. especially when you have augmented the TX power of the radio(s) AND use the router to supply power to an external device ( your usb stick ), the output voltage ( DC V ) may slightly drop. this can cause a "brownout" condition of the SOC, which will respond to this condition with a soft reboot. the switch chip is not affected and will remain functional.

My RT-N66U is experiencing the 20Mhz channel issue with the RT-AC branch still.
Also still having issues with the admin web server on occasion not responding (RT-N or RT-AC branches.)

How come I'm getting 14+ Mbytes/s through two walls with 5Ghz? That's with a noname usb adapter with two internal antennas.

14 MB (Mega Bytes) is a lot, 14 Mb (Mega bit) is not. Correct which one you're getting.

Megabytes. Considering people are complaining about the speed and range of SDK6. I did as well, before I tried v115 and cleared NVRAM.

Edit: Ehm, nevermind, the range and throughput is still weaker. I don't understand why the 5GHz performance varies so much from time to time with no other wlan's nearby.

    Hi,

I have doubts about this, because I already have a 5V-4A power supply for the RT-N16. When I bought the router, I did many researches and got a power supply with more amps because of that. I guess the power supply could still be the issue anyway, since it is about 3 years old. These power supplies are sometimes awfully cheap and don't last very long. I think I have a Playstation Portable power supply somewhere which has the same specs, so I could give it a shot. Thanks for your feedback :)

E4200 and E900 both running 115 in WDS(2.4GHz 20MHz) results in the E4200 dropping the 2.4GHz band every 5 minutes. They well resync WDS after a minute, but 5 minutes later the E4200's 2.4GHz band will die again.

NVRAM clear on both units and redid all settings by hand. Flashing back to 114 on both the E4200 and E900 results in a prefect/stable WDS connection.

    Did a Erase NVRAM.

The Model name on Overview is saying its a RT-AC66U, and under the Devices tab, it is showing things like this - / 4294967 as the TX/RX speeds.

I installed v115 (both K26RT-N and K26RT-AC) and it performes worse than stock firmware (incl. Merlin).

    How far should I go back ? v114 ? v112 ? v110 ?

Thanks a lot for this help! This is found NOWHERE on the Internet!

There are multiple page long posts about flashing this device, and it really isn't needed!

Honestly, flashing the 4301 this way can not be easier!

    1. Go to Belkin GUI
    2. Restore defaults (just in case)
    3. Flash "tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-115-BTgui-VPN.trx" or your chosen version, directly from the Belkin GUI
    4. Wait 10 minutes to be safe, don't do anything
    5. Do full NVRAM erase from Belkin

I've just tried tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-115-AIO and am having problems with IPv6 not working properly.
I use PPPoE to authenticate and DHCPv6-PD for IPv6. All IPv6 connections show that the destination is unreachable unless I boot the router first, and then connect the WAN cable after it has fully booted. Trying to boot the router with QoS enabled will also result in IPv6 not working. If I enable QoS after IPv6 is working it seems to work fine.
Disabling the wireless seems to resolve the IPv6 issues, but a wireless router with its wireless interface(s) disabled is rather disappointing.
There is also an MTU bug with IPv6. The MTU announced in the router advertisements is stuck at 1500 regardless of what the WAN MTU is set at. This results in some IPv6 websites not loading.
I've had these same problems with both Victek and Toastman versions as well.

What do you recommend Asus N12 D1 or Belkin 4301 for wireless? The Belkin is a much stronger model with 64 MB RAM and Gigabit, but I don't know about the wireless performance. I heard that the Asus N12 is really well supported on Tomato!

    Shibby,

When I compile v114 and v115 source code for rtn53, e2500, e3200 with USBAP=y, a fatal error occurred in kernel module compile.

    CC [M] fs/xfs/linux-2.6/xfs_vnode.o
    CC [M] fs/xfs/support/debug.o
    CC [M] fs/xfs/support/move.o

    MODPOST 251 modules
FATAL: drivers/net/wl/wl_high: sizeof(struct usb_device_id)=24 is not a modulo of the size of section __mod_usb_device_table=140.
Fix definition of struct usb_device_id in mod_devicetable.h

    make[6]: Leaving directory `/raid1/tomato/tomato.git.115AC/release.test/src-rt/linux/linux-2.6'
    make[5]: *** [kernel] Error 2

It seems the prebuilt wl_high.o is not match the definition of struct usb_device_id. I compared the header file mod_devicetable.h with 110 version's. There is some different definition. Maybe your prebuilt wl_high.o was compiled by old header file.
All of router models with wl_high can not be compiled successfully.
Would you pls. give me suggestion to clean this issue ?

As a temporary solution, I added one line source code to file2alias.c in function device_id_size_check().
    if (strcmp(modname, "drivers/net/wl/wl_high") == 0) return;

However, this will disable 5G support.

    Thanks,
    BWQ

    Hi,

Since I see that you're somewhat experienced with compiling the kernel and modifying the C code, can you tell me what is main reason for not having the latest linux kernel in these firmwares? (like 3.12)
The broadcom drivers are not compiling with 3.x kernel, or are there any other issues?

  80. leandroong

    leandroong Addicted to LI Member

If you will build entware optware, you will notice that it is using linux-2.6.22.19. Maybe this is the reason why.

  81. DEXTER

    DEXTER Reformed Router Member

That should not be the reason. All the entware/optware packages are already compiling on other platforms for the latest linux kernel. (if they need kernel headers at all) So they should work with newer kernels after updates.

I believe this is not the main reason, though I'd like to have answers from others to see their opinions.

Present toolchain are introduced with 2.6. I believe this is the reason why Shibby's firmware is still under kernel 2.6.xx.xx.

Stability is the first key reason for routers. All of my firmware are derived from Shibby's, so its kernel version is as same as Shibby's.

    http://repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git/commit/31e191d51383bb66f559a3e8b8872d2fb7cff429
then compilation will go without problem. This commit change structure of usb_device_id in mod_devicetable.h and precompiled wl_high.ko module is not compatible this it.

wrong. Broadcom drivers are precompiled for 2.6.22.19. This is the reason, why we have to use exacly this kernel version in tomato

where are sources??!!?? Tomato is on GPL licence. You have to release sources!

This is how Aria2 implemented, in padavan fw
    1. user create folder on external USB name "aria"
    2. Upon enabling aria2 switch, it will initialize aria folder by:
2.1 create folder "config", containing the ff:
    2.1.1 .aria <--- folder, containing
    2.1.1.1 dht.dat
    2.1.2 aria2.conf
    2.1.3 aria2.log
    2.1.4 incomplete.list
2.2 create "downloads", this is the default dl directory

Note: user need to download Aria2 remote software for windows interface that looks like this https://shared.com/n4ich5l34w?s=l

    aria2.conf contents
Lastly, there is a file to restart aria2 program located on "/sbin/run_aria". This will stop and restart aria2 program, needed if you change aria2.conf
