Hi, I installed "tomato-R7000-ARM--121-AIO-64K.trx" on my new R7000 and try to get a ssl-certificate into nvram with "nvram setfb64 https_crt_file /tmp/cert.tgz". But the nvram-version doesn't have the option "setfb64", cause I get the answer "usage: nvram [get name] [set name=value] [unset name] [show] [commit] [save] [restore] [erase] ..."

On a WNR3500Lv1, running with "tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-MIPSR2-121-VPN.trx", it works ("NVRAM Utility
    Copyright (C) 2006-2009 Jonathan Zarate").

Are there different versions of nvram-utils in the builds?

I'm glad that you have it working! :)

It is a very bad idea to disable the firewall on the router! If you have any concerns running two firewalls, I think it would be better to disable Kasperski than disabling the firewall on the router...

@shibby20, just want to report my new discovery of aria gui called webui-aria2. It can be found at https://github.com/ziahamza/webui-aria2.

I tested it on my main router, running padavan fw using entware optware. This is what I did:
    1. install entware optware lighttpd, edit, make server.port =81
    2. copy above webui-aria2 into /opt/share/www/webui-aria
    3. test run, GUI is working
    4. test download using URL and torrent, seems ok and I think I like it.
note: webui-aria is running side by side with transmission GUI with no problem

Thank you Siff, but I want to know if is possible this, becouse is no option to enable/disable it. Anyway, all my ports working in Asus stock firmware are closed. I know to forward a port, and I forwarded a lots, no one is open! I want to use Transmission in Tomato interface, but I cannot open any port. I enabled UPnP feature, not NAT-PMP, Inactive Rules Cleaning is checked by default at 600 sec, Secure mode disabled, LAN checked. Should I check Show in my network places? Is something wrong, a trick? Thank you, and don't be angry about me, I'm beginer in Tomato. Till now I used DD-WRT on a TP-Link WR1043ND router. Again, thank you!
  6. Siff

    Siff Reformed Router Member

@Onebit: If you need specific ports open - open/forward them using iptables, but do not disable the entire firewall (I guess that there is a reason why there is no option to disable it!)

Sorry, I can't help you with Transmission - never used it.

OK, Siff, but how can I open a port, any port? Is not possible to forward ports in Tomato inteface, Port forwarding feature? Can anybody give me an idea?
  8. Siff

Depending on what you are trying to do "Port Forwarding" in the options on the left might be enough or you'll need to learn how to use iptables.

^^^ The AIO version has Captive Portal (checked on AIO build 119). See here sample use and setup.

As per an old feature list, the "Mega-VPN" version should also have it as well as the Web Server, but I don't see them on an VPN build 120, so I guess Shibby left it only in the AIO version.

    Hope this helps.

Registered to post a bug I found with DDNS.

Using the VPN client to connect some devices to a tunnel. The DDNS always updates using the VPN client IP, even if using a custom IP address. None of the options return the correct IP (WAN/External/Custom).

    Is this intended?

  13. Onebit

It should be enough the grafic option "Port forwarding" and "UPnP" for opening ports, I know that and I know how to do, but it is not working. I tested my "opened ports" with CanYouSeeMe, and none of them are opened! That's my big problem, and I don't know how to handle with it!

I'm comming back... Finally, I managed to open a few ports in Tomato! Only after deleting all ports of Port Forwarding. I think it should still work Shibby in Port forwarding feature. Moreover, a novice in Tomato will close ports when using this option. It's confusing, very confusing! So attention: activating this feature with UPnP has the opposite effect, closing ports! I'll try and reverse disabling UPnP feature and editing the list of ports in port forwarding ... Let's see ... Many thanks to everyone on this forum! People skilled connoisseurs!

    Hi, Shibby,
Thanks for your firmware. I have a Asus and a Netgear works well with your firmware. But I have a Linksys WRT54's pptp don't work with your firmware. I've try many releases of your firmware (from 108 to 121), but still no luck. The firmware that I flashed is VPN version.

    @ Shibby
    Model: Asus RT-N16
    Firmware: V121 AIO
    Settings: Default
    Connection: Wired
Issue: Trying to start VPN server blows up the router and resets all configuration.

I upgraded from V117 to V121, and enable NVRAM wipe. I tried to setup a VPN Server on the router using this How-To-Geek article. (Which doesn't work. Can we get an update?!) I really appreciate all of your help. You should start a Kickstarter! My officemate got killed by the Synolocker fiasco so I'm in a rush to get OpenVPN working. To be honest, I will probably be moving to the EdgeRouter Lite anyway but I still want OpenVPN with Shibby working at home. THANKS!

I recently upgraded my router from an E3000 running shibby's tomato to a Netgear R7000 running shibby's tomato version 121. My internet connection seems to drop every 3 days or so (LAN still works when this happens). Through some troubleshooting I found out that when it happens, if I renew DHCP on the WAN, it starts working again (no reboot required). Does anybody have any idea why this might be happening? Other than the router, nothing in my setup has changed.

Are you using a random MAC address for the WAN on the router? Maybe try a different MAC address for WAN (or clone the PC) and reboot/powercycle both the cable/dsl modem and the router. My R7000 has been stable since Tomato was available.

Shibby, thanks for the great firmware; I have been using it on my routers for a couple years now and wouldn't have it any other way.

For anyone else with the R7000 and v121 I have noticed it seems to randomly reboot very often, anyone see something similar? Currently I use it as a vpn client with some additional firewall rules to allow selective vpn for IPs. Aside from default settings I disabled bandwidth monitor, ip traffic, 5ghz antenna enabled (only 2 clients connect wireless), and mounted a cifs share to log the syslog to. I have about 10 active devices at one time. With that config the router restarts randomly 3-4 times a day. Disabling wireless doesn't seem to affect the number of restarts but enabling bandwidth monitor seemed to increase restarts to about 1 or 2 times per hour (did not test more than a day though as it was too disruptive to have the internet go out that often). I thought having the syslog output to my cifs share would give me insight on the cause of the restart but there is no abnormal behavior prior to any restart (All check boxes for logging are enabled as well). I did not see any correlation with CPU load and when it restarts either.
  42. Fredrik

    Fredrik Networkin' Nut Member

I have similar problems with the R7000 and the same firmware. Running vpn client and media server and 5ghz wireless, not much else. Situation improved after reflash twice of same firmware with clearing of nvram. Still reboots once a week, media server and vpn crashes every other day and wireless crashes every other day as well.

Let's hope shibby and toastman can work their magic :)

As stated in the flashing instructions after the initial flash, erase NVRAM (thorough), reboot the router. This initial reboot after the erase sets up the defaults in NVRAM, then reboot AGAIN for the radios to show up.

are you using a chrome-based browser to set up tomato by any chance? i have noticed that chrome fills in a number of fields incorrectly: it will use your router username (admin) and password (password) to fill in the ssid and passphrase. for example, if you are on the basic settings page, and do no specifically scroll down to the bottom, you may miss what was entered. since the passphrase is hidden as ****** you may not realize that it is overwrtingt the value that you had entered as your passphrase.

i do not know of a way around this except to use a different browser for tomato.

No. I usually use Firefox. And yes, if a passphrase is filled automatically, I'll retype it.

Vi is all that's baked in the firmware. It's actually not even full vi, but a busybox minimal version. You can install entware and get nano that way.

Shibby I upgraded my router to an Asus RT-AC66U and I have noticed that there are some problems with the 5 Ghz wireless. First of all what is in the overview does not match current settings this also effects the 2.4 range. here are some pics.
And when connecting to the 5 Ghz band the siginal is weak and often I get an error that the device could not connect to my DHCP Server. (Xbox One) This does not happen on the 2.4 Ghz band. Any Help would be appreciated I am Running your latest Firmware.
  60. PetervdM

    PetervdM Network Guru Member

i noticed this too, and i am pretty sure shibby is aware of it. i investigated and it seems that there are 2 variables setting channel number and speed: channel and chanspec.
if you are bold enough you can set them by hand as you did in your screenshot, channel 8 width 20 and channel 64 width 40 . then goto tools, system commands, and enter:

    nvram set wl0_channel=8
    nvram set wl1_channel=64
    nvram set wl0_chanspec=8/20
    nvram set wl1_chanspec=64/40
    nvram commit

click on execute and wait for the commands to finish, then reboot the router

as for 5GHz weakness, try setting the transmit power to either 0 or 80. avoid all antennas to be perpendicular, let them point in different directions

as always before modifying your config, make a backup. proceed at your own risk!

Thanks PetervdM I tried what you suggested but it didn't make a difference. 5 Ghz does seem to be a little more powerful but I still get the device could not connect to my DHCP Server error with the Xbox One but if I use the 2.4 Ghz band it works great. However my phones and tablets connect to the 5 Ghz band but I get an error that says the internet is not reachable at times.. Maybe in the next release these issues will be fixed. Are there any other firmwares you can recommend that don't have these issues?

Shibby, I have a Tenda N6 running your MOD v121, with BCM-NAT enabled.
    I have 100mbps/5mbps bandwidth.
It seems that even with BCM fast NAT, 100mbps wan to lan still a very big problem. I think BCM-NAT is initialized (I put "modprobe bcm_nat" in scripts - init, and execute "dmesg | grep BCM" in tools- system commands, showing "BCM fast NAT: INIT"), but usually get 70~80mbps wan to lan, and sometimes the router itself reboot itself. Without BCM-NAT I got a similar wan to lan result (70~80mbps).
    How can I fix this?

And I also have an Asus RT-N12 B1(BCM 5357 300MHZ+32M RAM), running v121 RT-N5X no USB MAX, get 60~70mbps wan to lan with or without BCM-NAT.

    Good evening all,

may I also leave a wish here ... a bigger problem I actually have with Shibby's build (basically with *all* builds ;-) )

I'm intentionally using RT-N66U for my purposes to have enough speed and resources ... basically I also will have enough NVRAM. This is all quite good with the RT-N66.

The big problem is: I've a lot of services running, and after 50 forwardings the GUI seems to limit more entries. I've around 40% of NVRAM still free, so this is not an issue. There seems to be a "#define" in the code which puts a hard limit on this, even if there is enough NVRAM space free.

Shibby, it'll be great if you can at least increase this limit ... I hope it's an easy task.

Yes, there is a limit imposes purely by the GUI. You could actually make a copy of that page into jffs or USB, modify that one value, and mount it over top of it. You could also try and define multiple ports in one entry separated by coma to get around the issue.

-sometimes the router simply not starts (after reboot or shutdown) only the wireless LED lights up, but cannot be reachable even applying fixed ip address + SSH does not help, I'm not able to login, webgui also unreachable
(nvram erase was done so thats not the cause of this instability)
-maybe the package source changed (now it's not possible to install lighthttpd package, this was possible in 121)
-the webgui for transmission does not work with optware transmission and does not able to start it
(with the regular SSH command transmission can be started)

After reverting back to 121, the above mentioned problems disappeared.

    -CPU ID is good
    -CPU load display working properly

    Wow...Thanks PetervdM! :)
I had exactly the same problem with the 2.4Ghz channels and your suggestion corrected it. I only set the wl0 settings and rebooted but it worked perfect. The really strange part is now the basic settings screen seems to update properly as well. In other words, I can now change the 2.4Ghz channels in the usual method. Must have cleaned out something with your trick.

Shibby I have R7000 at 1200,800, but DLNA is unstable. Crashing every few minutes, I'm having to reboot router and it takes minutes to reboot. I just overclocked today, DLNA was VERY stable on v121. DLNA on v122 is unstable, not sure if it's from overclocking but I doubt that would cause the problem, please let me know if any settings are bad.

Also, please let me know if you need any other info from me and I'll be more than happy to provide.
Thanks for all you do brother.

The build ( Tomato Firmware 1.28.0000 MIPSR2-121 K26 USB VPN ) I am using seems to have a tendency to reboot itself. When it does, the 5 GHz may or may not comes back. Everything else seems to be fine.

Upgraded to 122 this evening after being on dd-wrt for a few weeks. No matter how much I've rebooted and reconfigured, I cannot get a stable ping to the routers IP from a wired PC. It appears that the unstable ping issue on the R7000 has become worse on this release.

UPDATE: I turned off the router, unplugged the power cord, turned it on to discharge any power left on the board (power LED did flash for half a second), turned the power back off, plugged in the power cord and turned it back on and it came up. Ping is now less than 1 millisecond and stabilized. I rebooted 18 times previously. 18 times is no joke. What's the difference between the drivers on DD-WRT and the drivers in Tomato? I not once had this issue with Kong's DD-WRT build. Is this a driver issue or something else?

My router has rebooted so many times in the past couple of hours, DLNA has been crashing a ton, and wireless is very unstable. Sticking with v122 until Shibby gets the logs or anything he needs from me to see what's going on, then going back to 121.

I just posted an update Noob. You may want to try that as well and see if it helps. I cleared my NVRAM (thorough) twice, then set everything back up without using a backup config. It went smoother that way until I couldn't get the ping issue resolved. Then doing the power cord thing above seemed to fix it.

NICE find. I was having the high ping issue and it is <1ms now.

Thank you for pointing this out.

    Hi Shibby,

I was wondering if there are any plans on adding support for the following routers:

    Asus RT-AC87U
    Asus RT-AC3200
    Netgear R8000

I know the RT-AC3200 isn't released yet, but the other two appear to be...

Didn't want to go through having to re-config my router but doing the power trick worked.

Can't work with this router any-longer on v122. Reverting back to v121. Hopefully the DLNA service problems stop.

121 has been so unbelievably solid for me. We have many devices in our house including an ipad, several apple tvs, several chromecasts, a wii u, a ps4, my pc, my wife's macbook, etc. We have three young boys who are always streaming something, I'm doing any number of things on my pc, my oldest is playing baseball online on ps4, wife upstairs streaming netflix on the apple tv, etc and absolutely no hiccups.

I haven't seen anything in 121 or 122 that makes me want to upgrade, but I just wanted to say thanks shibby and say that I can't recommend 120 enough, it's excellent. I get great 11n signal and haven't rebooted in ~4months+.

    Thanks shibby, wonderful work!

The fact that it's worked for 2 other people now makes me think something is getting jacked up in ram and not getting reset after a NVRAM clear or even a reboot.

@shibby20 You may want to look at this. If you have the tools you may want to get a memory dump before and after the power drain to see where the issue is.

I can't tell from the referenced quotes/posts, but the pings being discussed -- two questions: are they being done across wireless or wired connections? And I assume the ping destination is the router itself?

I ask because when people start talking about "memory dumps" and "what about the drivers", my reaction is that my face looks like this: -_- followed immediately by . Wireless in particular has been finicky forever in Tomato/TomatoUSB, because the wireless driver is a binary blob and Broadcom is notorious for wonky bugs.

And about wireless in general: sometimes with wireless connections you might have issues that simply get resolved through a reboot. Think I'm kidding? When I had Atheros-based wireless driver problems on FreeBSD, a fellow who works at Atheros responded and had this to say. Pretty complex stuff going on under the hood.

I'm observing those issues both from wireless and wired clients trying to reach anything behind wan port (including openrg based modem). Haven't noticed any delays between local machines (either wireless or wired).

My friend had very similar issue with ping spikes using some (IIRC) intel network cards, which he resolved by upgrading kernel to 3.9
