Tomato stuck at "renewing" WAN connection

    Hi everyone,

I had a perfectly good tomato 1.07 setup with a webstar cisco/scientific atlanta cable modem. I moved home and decided to upgrade to tomato 1.28, and accepted the "new" modem from my cable company - a webstar from 2007, HW revision 2.1... Why fix it if it ain't broke, I wonder now?

The problem I'm having is that quite a few times a day Tomato gets disconnected from the modem, even if the modem has a signal (if I unplug the ethernet cable from the router and connect into a pc I have internet access). With tomato 1.07, I would just click renew and it would be fine, but with my new setup it gets stuck at "renewing" and does not renew. In fact not even power cycling the router works, I need to power cycle the modem plus the router to get internet connection again.

I changed two variables, so I'm not sure if it's the new tomato firmware or the new modem. Any clues?

    Thanks

    g.

Not sure what your setup is but mine is a modem in bridge mode with the Tomato router authenticating via PPPoE, I used to have a similar problem especially if it was due to a quick power blip. I found that manually setting the MTU in Tomato to 1492 seemed to do the trick for me - not sure why this worked but I saw it mentioned somewhere on a post way back, tryied it and never had a problem since with either my previous Netgear or my current Linksys ADSL2MUE modems.
