Tomato Upload on WRT54GL Resets Webpage Instead of Uploading Firmware

I just bought a new WRT54GL (v 1.1) that has the default firmware. I downloaded and extracted the 1.28 Tomato firmware for this router. I go to administration and upgrade firmware, select the .bin file, and then hit the "upgrade" button. But the web page doesn't shown the file being uploaded. It immediately jumps to a web page saying the connection was reset.

Here is what shows in Firefox after I hit "upgrade":

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The URL in the browser shows:
    http://192.168.1.1/upgrade.cgi

When I go to 192.168.1.1, it shows the Linksys default web page.

    What am I doing wrong?

(I tried posting a similar message last night but it doesn't appear to have been received so I'm trying to post again.)

    Additional Info

Just to be clear, I'm using a wired connection to the WRT54GL router. I've been able to use the router to connect to the Internet. When I'm trying to upload the Tomato firmware, I have the router disconnected from the Internet. I've tried several times, but the same problem always occurs.

Have you tried using other browsers?

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and Firefox. If memory serves, the Tomato faq says to use either Firefox or IE and I don't have access to IE.

OK, I connected the router to a laptop running XP and was able to upload the firmware successfully. I just hate to have to use Windows with a Linux-based router. Thanks for the suggestion to use a different browser.
