I just flashed in tomato ,then I tried to set out QOS rules , but it doesnt work.
There are 2 persons who are using the internet at home , but my stupid bro are always buffering youtube while playing online games at the same time. This result I cant even watch a video on facebook. so I want to limit his speed to 50% , while I'll be getting 100% full speed.
I am using wireless while he's using Ethernet port 2. (using linksys WRT54GL)

here is the snapshot ,880kbs (download speed)and 430 kbs (upload speed) are what I got from speedtest.net

I got his desktop MAC address by using cmd--> getmac .

After I've done with the setting , I rebooted the WRT54GL . But the QOS is not working , my brother is still getting 7xx kbit.

have I done anything wrong with the setting ? please guide me , thanks and much appreciated of your reply.

Didn't you read anything about QOS before you changed things? Your QOS is not working because it isn't set up to do anything. Your inbound and outbound max limits are in the wrong boxes, the wrong figure is entered anyway, the classes have no settings, you limited both incoming and outgoing bandwidth for all users to half, and that's just the Basic page...

I recommend you learn something about how QOS works and start again. Read the QOS thread below, implement the QOS example

exactly as it is, get to understand what it is trying to do, and then you'll be in a position to tune it to do what you want.

I really don't understand what's inhttp://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/sh...&postcount=135  , sigh I am not really good in networking stuff.

I am giving up ... can someone just tell me the instruction to limit my brother internet speed to 50% speed ? better with some printscreen.

My internet download speed is 880kbits , upload speed is 430 kbits .

Sigh , sorry to all of you , I am really dumb.

    2 things.

    1. Your're both class B, so collectively, your class is allowed to upload at 50% of the max theoretical bandwidth. This is because you set the default (catch-all) class to B, and you also set your brother (redundantly) to B. What you can try is either to see everyone else (default) as B, but to set yourself as class A (you'll have to define the bandwidth case for that in QoS)

    2. QoS may not work for inbound (aka, traffic from internet to your network). Because traffic is determined by your ISP (or the server that's sending traffic to your router, your router cannot really do anything. All it can do is to drop the packets it doesn't want, but it can't really prioritize what it gets first. I may be wrong, so I advise you wait for someone to confirm/unconfirm this.

    0. I don't need to know if you're dumb or not. As it is in the field of computing, people tend to just want a solution, want it done word for word for them, everything from how to log in with SSH, to what QoS is supposed to do. So rather than telling is you're dumb and expecting sympathy, I advise you first do some research, then if you need help, post on a forum (as you did), BUT, to explain the steps you have taken and the REASONING behind it. Basically, show me you did some work, and I'll be willing to help.
