Total / Free Memory - please explain

I have a WRT54GL ver1.1 and was running DD-WRT v24 for IP assigning and Qos; recently this has become unstable so I thought I'd give Tomato 1.21 a try. So far I notice Qos works much better.

I have 'bandwidth monitoring' enabled and 'Count cache memory as free memory' enabled in debugging.

My total and free memory reads as follow, is this normal?
    Total / Free Memory 14.19 MB / 6,508.00 KB (44.80%)

Is there a Cron job script that I can run to clear the memory overnight?

    thx

Clear what memory? It's in use.

If you want to stay with ALL the memory free, keep the router unplugged.

Your numbers are normal. There is no reason to clear the memory. If you have stability problems (very few do under tomato), you may want to schedule a reboot.

My router's been up for 65 days at the moment (no reboots). I still have 6620kB free (45.57%), and I've never "cleared" the memory. It just works.

    You worry too much...

Your "Total / Free Memory" figures seem to be normal. And there is really nothing you could do about it, except from rebooting your router maybe. But 6,508 kB is quite a lot of memory. That is absolutely nothing to worry about.

    Cheers!

What version of Tomato? I too have found that 1.19 would stay up for months, but 1.21...not so much so. I have yet to clear two weeks. I also wonder if a subtle memory leak isn't to blame, but I've yet to find concrete evidence of it.

Before my Buffalo took a dump mine was up for nearly 1 month since the last settings reboot. I have not found any problems with 1.21. Let's see how it does on the Asus

As of now since I loaded Tomato this morning: Total / Free Memory 29.98 MB / 21.66 MB (72.23%)

I'm running 1.18 now. I jumped in way back at 1.07, and NEVER had to reboot the router because it was misbehaving. I think my personal record is 90 days, and that was only interrupted because of a lightning storm, and my router is not on a UPS.
