Trouble putting on a Wep

I tried unsuccessfully to follow a 'how-to' guide I downloaded from this site. I wanted to do something simple like put on a Wep passcode....So I start...and when I get to the wireless security window, Enable Security, choose SecurityMode WEP. O.K. What about Default Transmit Key? And I entered a Passphrase and Generated Keys 1-4. But the cheatsheat doesn't mention what to do with 'em. When I thought I had finished everything, I tried my passphrase and all 4 Keys at various times with no luck....Next, in the WirelessMacFilter section, everything looks simple until it gets to "...Select the option to Permit only PCs listed to access the wireless network" But can see no such option. There is a "Select MAC address from Networked Computers" option, MAC Filter Enable/Disable, Filter Mode allow/deny and the SaveSettings buttons on the bottom!....Anyways, this little story has been edited/condensed, so as not to ramble-on about my dumbass! It took me a couple of hours to get my iBook and iMacG5 up and running again.
I'm going to attempt it once more, with hopefully much better luck! Anyone have any tips? I'm off to search for more instructions.
    thanks
    Mike

first up, let us know the model number of your router and the firmware in it. so cant say anything abt MAC filter.

next, under wireless security, select either WEP (64 or 128 bit), type a passphrase and click Generate. u'll get 4 keys. Note down what's the default transmit key selected in that page. then go to ur Mac computers, connect to ur signal using that key with a $ symbol in front. (eg: ur key: 1234567890, u need to type $1234567890 on ur Macs). that shd get u going.
