I cannot seem to be able to telnet to my WRT54G router via ms telnet cmd promt or using putty. I get the error that port 23 is closed. Is there something i am missing that i need to enable? Or should i upgrade my firmware version? It is currently on v3.03.1

    Thanks, Ian.

    btw hi all :)

WRT54G do not support telnet protocol,so you can not use telnet to connect WRT54G.

The only way to connect WRT54G is use internet browser such as IE or Netscape.

But Cisco switch and router can use telnet~

To access the Telnet you need third-party firmware however I would not use Telnet but SSH. SSH has encryption. Putty if i remember has SSH.

Firmware that I know has Telnet and SSH:
    HyperWRT http://www.hyperwrt.org/
    Sveasoft http://www.sveasoft.com/
    DD-WRT http://www.dd-wrt.com/

there's probbly more firmware out there that has it but i don't remember what they are.

if you do download the 3rd party firmware then make sure that the telnet is enabled.
