Unable to use the Tomato GUI

    I recently upgraded to version 1.14. The upgrade applied without issue but all of a sudden when I attempt to access it I see only the Tomato banner at the top of the screen and a few other pieces of text on the left, none of the links that I am able to normally click on, just text. I am creating this post from a Blackberry otherwise I would have included screen shots. I have tried a hard reset of the router, same problem. I would like to try reflashing the firmware but since I am not able to access the administration page I am unable to reflash the firmware. Is there an alternative method I may use to reflash the router (TFTP, JTAG cable)? The internet connection still functions from all PC's on the network but since I have reset the setting I prefer to keep it ofline until I have set a secure password on the router and configured it the way it was before this problem began. The router is a WRT54GL V1.0.

    Thanks in advance.

    First, I'd try clearing my browser's cache.

    I have tired that also. I have also tried a browser from another machine.

    In that case, you can definately tftp it.
    I'd do a 30sec reset first.
    Good luck!

    Any sugggested method or program to use? I have the old linksys TFTP application but it only allows me to enter a password and not a username. I have also tried the 30 second reset. Assuming you mean hold down the reset button for 30 seconds.

    If you use Windows XP the TFTP client is already installed on your system. Windows Server 2003 requires manual installation of TFTP.
    The command should be:
    Code:
    tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin
    It should be issued right after you restart the router (you have only 5 seconds to do this). There is a nice batch file for Buffalo routers, but it should be modified in order to work with Linksys routers.

    I will give that a try. Thanks for the help.

    I have tried to modify the batch file for you. Copy this code and save it to wrt_install.bat for example.
    Code:
    @echo off
    echo ===========================================================================
    echo This batch file will upload WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin in the current directory to
    echo 192.168.1.1 during the router's bootup.
    echo.
    echo * Set your ethernet card's settings to:
    echo      IP:      192.168.1.2
    echo      Mask:    255.255.255.0
    echo      Gateway: 192.168.1.1.
    echo * Unplug the router's power cable.
    echo.

    echo Press Ctrl+C to abort or any other key to continue...
    pause > nul

    echo.
    echo * Re-plug the router's power cable.
    echo.
    echo ===============================================================================
    echo Waiting for the router... Press Ctrl+C to abort.
    echo.

    :PING
    ping -n 1 -w 50 192.168.1.1 > nul
    if errorlevel 1 goto PING

    echo tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin
    tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin
    if errorlevel 1 goto PING

    echo.
    echo ===============================================================================
    echo * WAIT for about 2 minutes while the firmware is being flashed.
    echo * Reset your ethernet card's settings back to DHCP.
    echo * The default router address will be at 192.168.1.1.
    echo.

    pause

    Make sure it's in the same directory as WRT54G_WRT54GL.bin.
    Set your ethernet card's settings to:
    IP: 192.168.1.2
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 192.168.1.1
    Run the batch file and follow the instructions (power off, then power on again).
    I hope it works. If you want, wait for another user to confirm that this will work, as I have Buffalo router.

    One more thing, don't try to install 1.14 again because it is buggy. Try installing the new 1.15 instead.

    Succes! Well sort of anyway. I tried to flash Tomato 1.15 to the router and the GUI appeared the same way. Once I switched to HyperWRT everything seemed to be OK again. Not ideal since I really liked Tomato but still better than nothing.

    Screenshot of my problem

    This is driving me a bit nutty. I have tired several different versions of the firmware and also tried accessing the GUI from sever different browsers and computers.

    Internet Settings or JavaScript

    Maybe I write a mistake, but you could try to change your browser settings.
    In IE, I Have put my router's IP address in my "trusted zone" ou "Local Intranet" zone (don't remember very well, cause I use Firefox)
    But in Firefox, I use NoScript, and I have had to add again my router's IP address to allow Javascript (and other things) to be executed from this Web Site.

    May this help

    Thanks for the suggestion but I am still unable to see the page correctly. It's very frustrating.
