Unexplained spike in upload in stats

My ISP is Comcast with a 250GB cap/month, so I watch my usage pretty closely. I average about 5 GB upload per day and my max upload before today was 6.1 GB as reported by Tomato's stats. Today I see a 14 GB upload spike, even though my "file exchange client" shows only about the typical 5 GB upload. FYI I'm running Tomato Teddy Bear mod v1.27 on a Netgear WNR3500L.

Any idea what could cause such a huge spike? The only computer on in the house is my 24/7 "ubuntu server" linux seed box. I checked the network monitor stats on the server machine and they match closely to what the client program reports. There was a laptop on for about 15 minutes before I saw the stat. Could Comcast be doing something crazy here, I know that Tomato registers a lot of inbound traffic that isn't counted in the monthly statistics. I check the monthly stats on Comcast's site, and they still look normal, unaffected by today's spike. 14GB (+8GB from norm) seems huge to me for any typical traffic.

Thanks in advance for any ideas/thoughts.
