Update an unblocked WRTP54G to 3.1.24?

I bought a locked WRTP54G locked to Vonage...after getting input from this forum I was able to unlock it to a fw 3.1.17.

I found out that there is a new fw from Linksys (3.1.24-NA), but when I tried to update to that fw I received a message error saying that this code is incorrect.

Is there a reason why can not upgrade to that newer firmware?

as I've read in an openwrt (I think) wiki these WRTP54G devices have the four-letter codes in them and the factory-unlocked units have different codes (think of it as a model number) than the Vonage ones.
the firmware also have the model number in it, so the one you can download from the Linksys web-site needs to be patched in two places -- one spot for the model number and the other one for the CRC of the file.
search the dslreports forums an you will find instructions on how to do it. I would have shared the patched file, but unfortunately it's not something Linksys Legal department will be happy about.

Thanks very much for your reply.

I think I can use the same way to modify that firmware (3.1.24) that the one I used to modify the 3.1.17, can't I?

same tactic, but not exactly the same hex-values for the CRC, since the firmware has been changed. look up the "rllink" posts on the dslreports forum.

btw, while there's the shell-enabled 3.1.17 firmware floating around, there's no shell-enabled 3.1.24 to the best of my knowledge.
