    Everytime I try to upgrade my Linksys WRT54G, it just keeps saying "Upgrade are failed!" (Did Linksys flunk english or what?). Is it because the upgrade file is assigned to VLC media player now, not "Unknown Application?"

    Pls explain in detail the version of your router, the firmware you currently use, the OS/browser on your computer, the file you downloaded for firmware, if you're doing the upgrade from a wired/wireless computer, etc.

    You have to do the firmware upgrade from a wired connection only. The firmware must be unzipped if you have downloaded the zipped version to be recognized by the router. As as Kingvj stated your should preovide the information he asked for, since going from a third party firmware to nother third party firmware can be problematic, In addition some firmware upgrades from one factory firmwire to another is problematic also depending on router version OS and browser. You should reset to factory defaults before and after a firmware upgrade.

    Router version=not sure, how do I check?
    Firmware= 4.20.7
    OS= win XP
    the new firmware= Xlink Kai Evo 7 firmware (a tunneling firmware that lets you play ad-hoc PSP games online)
    and from a wired computer. The xlink upgrade is in proper .bin format, so I dont get the problem.

    You are on the latest Linkdyd firmware. The new firmware, what version its it based on. Sometimes you will be prevented from going to a earluer version.
