    Hi guys,

I am going to upgrade the Firmware from HyperWRT to DDWRT, the firmware that i am going to load is "dd-wrt.v22_wrt54g.bin".

This is what i plan to do
    a) I am going to reset my router to clear any old variables loaded in the nvram before i update.

    b) Using the built in FTP in hyperwrt i will upload the firmware

    c) Then i am going to reset it again to clear any old variables.

    My router is ver 3.1.

Because the router belongs to my school and this is the first time i am updating a firmware for router, is my above procedure correct? I do not wish to brick it, lol.

BTW, can anyone teach me how to backup my old firmware just in case? Many thanks.

Thats what I do on my upgrades. the backup only backs upthe configuration (all your settings) which is not conpatable with DD-WRT firmware, it uses a different method of backup. you should never use a different backup unless the firmware is exactly the same.
