UPNP problems

I have a WRT54GS, firmware v2.07.1. All my client machines behind it are Windows 2000 Pro. 4 machines connect through the ethernet ports and 2 connect through wireless cards.

I like the UPnP feature of the router, but I don't get the same results with all the applications. I am running AZUREUS (a Java Bit Torrent Client) and it 'discovers' and makes use of the UPnP features of the router inmediately! I also have MSN 6.2.0137, but under TOOLS -> OPTIONS -> CONNECTION it says: "You are connected to the Internet through a non-UPnP port restricted NAT."

In all my tests Azureus works all the time but MSN never detects UPnP. Is this a problem of the OSs, MSN, the router? Any hints?

I discovered the problem. UPnP runs fine, the problem was Windows 2000/MSN.

As I said Azureus/UPnP runs fine everywhere, but MSN was not detecting UpnP. Unlinke XP, Win 2000 has no UPnP discovery functions at OS level, but DirectX enables it. The problem is the DirectX version.

DirectX 9.0c does not enable MSN to make use of UPnP under Windows 2000, this works only with DirectX 8.1.
