Use QOS to test slower Internet?

Because of the economy, I am trying to find ways to save some money and I am thinking about changing my Comcast High-Speed service from:
    Current plan: Performance (6Mbps/1Mbps) $57.95
    Propose plan: Economy (1Mbps/384Kbps) $39.95

I just started reading the QOS thread post by Toastman, http://www.linksysinfo.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60304

Can I use QOS to test my WL-520GU at 1Mbps/384Kbps to see if I can live with slower service?

I only use the Internet for email/search/forums/etc... NO movies/music/ebooks/etc.

Yes, just set the maximum outbound and inbound bandwidth limits to the new settings and it will approximately simulate the speeds you may get. You can check it with the graphs.

Plus you need to set all incoming class to 100%, becouse if they are on none, then it wont limit it.

Also, there must not be any None at the upload classes.

tl;dr: There must not be "None".

I have enabled QOS... are my settings OK to simulate the Comcast Economy Plan (1Mbps/384Kbps)?

    speedtest.net has these results: D/L .77 Mb/s, U/L .36 Mb/s

    THANKS,
    Mike

    Yes it's OK.

Download is lower than it should, but it's acting the same for me.

Thanks to all with helping me save $18/month.

I noticed almost no difference in my usual web surfing when I used QOS to test the Comcast Economy plan vs the Comcast Performance plan. (Yes, QOS is now off.)

    speedtest.net has these results: D/L .97 Mb/s, U/L .36 Mb/s
