Used Asus RT-N66U is unresponsive and cannot enter recovery

I have not been able to get to the web admin page for the used Asus RT-N66U I ordered from Amazon.

I've followed numerous guides, and no matter how I hold down the reset button while powering on the router, the power LED never blinks slowly. If I hold down the WPS button, it will blink fast.

No combination of resetting to defaults or trying to put it into recovery mode works. I've put my IP address to, subnet and have pinged every IP in the subnet and nothing responses.

I can't use TFTP, since I cannot get a response from any IP address.

If I plug my computer into it, the power LED stays lit, along with the port I'm plugged into, but no other lights flashed. It appears to be stuck in some kind of limbo mode. The Asus firmware restoration utility cannot detect the device either.

It simply refuses to enter recovery mode, period. I've tried every combination of holding reset, wps, both together. Nada. The power LED will not slowly fast to indicate it is in recovery mode.

Any ideas on what to try next, other than sending it back to Amazon and trying to get my money back from the third party seller?

Bad luck - but do try all ports and different cable - could it be auto-sensing gigabit port detection issue? But that wouldn't explain leds..
