Using a MAC to update firmware?

    OK, here goes,
Being a MAC user seems to be a rareity here, at least searches for MAC specific help doesn't produce any specific results.
I have a WRT54G V1.0 (has 20 LED's on front). It is hooked up to a Satellite Gateway (DW4020) for internet broadcast and not used for routing as the 4020 has that function. I am now getting a new 4020 that will have a static IP address and no longer have a router capablility. Therefore, I will have to use the WRT54G as a router. It is currently deactivated as a router (done with Linksys help a couple of years ago when hooking up originally)

I do not know what version of firmware it currently has.

How do I find out what firmware I currently have?

Can you update the firmware with a MAC?

What is the latest firmware for this V1.0 unit?

When the firmware is updated, will the router function be reactivated?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you ahead of time.
