    Using a E1000 router.
    Also have an old BEFSR41 router.
    Thought it would be simple to connect a cable between the two, & use it as a switch.
    But I *don't* have the old BEFSR41 software.
    & it looks like the the E1000 software won't work. [Hasn't yet.]
    This *should* be pretty simple, but so far, I can't get the E1000 to see the BEFSR41.
    & when I disconnect the E1000, seems that I get get into the BEFSR41.
    What am I missing?
    TIA
    edited to add additional info
    OS = 64bit Win7HP
    Asus M4A88T-M/USB3, w/ onboard Realtek RTL8111E Gigabit LAN controller
    modem = Motorola Surfboard SB5101

    Instead of using the default gateway use the ip the router assigned to it
