Using my Router as a WiFi Detector?

    I want to use my router as a Wireless Card, To see if there is any Wifi in my area? How can i?

    install dd-wrt and use the wirless survay option it will give you a read out of the closest wireless networks

    If you have a WRT54G or GS and a 3rd party firmware you can install Kismet and you have a full blown WiFi Sniffer.
    or Wi-viz I like Kismet better though.

    I have never used linux in my life, and i have no experiance with it. Any godo tutorials/links or w/e into installing Kismet on my box?

    I found the firmware and it's installed. I cant find the wireless survay option!

    that is easy go to the status tab in the wen interface then to wireless and you should see wireless survay
