Using Own SSL Cert That's Longer than 512 bits. Is it Possible?

I saw this thread where someone was talking about how to use their own SSL cert with Tomato. As you can see, it is a complicated process and, come to find out, the limit on key size is a very weak 512 bits (512 bit asymmetric keys are easily crackable by a cluster).

So, my question is simple: Is it possible to use certs longer than 512 bits with Tomato? If it is, can someone provide a step by step of how to set this up?

And if it's not possible, can someone create a patch so that Tomato will accept longer keys?
