Using the WRT54G with two WAP54G,s

My problem is I have a cottage in backyard away from the house.
    I have a WRT54G V.3 Firmware 4.20.7 and a WAP54G v.3 firmware
v 3.04. I can not get enough signal to the cottage.

Can I use another WAP54G as repeater also using the mac address
    of the 1st WAP54G.

Any ideas appreciated. I just do not want to have to run a wired
connection to the cottage, but at this point I am thinking that may be the best route.

    Thanks in advance

    Using dd-wrt, it works great....

    I connected my 2 routers wirelessly (wrt54gs v2.1 - host and WRT54G v4 as birdge/repeater). You have to use dd-wrt v23. I use dd-wrt v23 beta 2 mini for the WRT54G v4 and dd-wrt v23 beta 2 standard for my wrt54gs v3. It works great.

In the beginning I use WEP it works great, but now I use WPA2. You should use WPA for better wireless security.

To configure the routers you can follow the setup configuration at:
    http://www.linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=7

Read dd-wrt installation guide (the wiki) at http://wrt-wiki.bsr-clan.de/index.php?title=Main_Page

    To download www.dd-wrt.com

    Good luck

    Hi,

I am actually trying that identical setup myself with quite some difficulty.

I cannot get the second WAP54G in repeater mode to connect to the first WAP54G also set to repeater mode, which actually expands the range of my WRT54G

Luckylunch: Is this what you meant: DSL--->WRT54>>>wireless<<<WRTG54G>>>wireless<<<<<WAP54G?

    Hi,

What I mean is the following:
WRT54G wirelessly connects to WAP54G in repeater mode then to another WAP54G wirelessly also in repeater mode

the issue that i am having is that I cannot establish communication between WAP54G #1 and WAP54G #2. I have placed the MAC address of my WRT54G into the repeater field of WAP54G #1 and this works. I then tried to place the MAC address of WAP54G #1 into the repeater field of WAP54G #2 and this does not work. As a test I decided to input the MAC address of WRT54G into WAP54G#2 and it works.

At this point, I don't even know for sure if I can wirelessly daisy chain the two WAP54G that are set up as repeaters.

    Any insight?

    Luckylunch:
In each Router there are 3 types of MAC address (LAN, WAN and wireless).

In this setup make sure that you put WIRELESS MAC of Router B in WDS Router A and WIRELESS MAC of Router A in WDS Router B.

That is what I have done. Keep in mind that I am using only one router, a WRT54G and two WAP54G access points set up as repeaters

I am sorry Goknicks but I am unsure of what you mean. This is how I have set up:

WRT54G with wireless mac address XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX

WAP54G #1 in repeater mode with XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX in the repeater field. It has a wireless mac address of YY-YY-YY-YY-YY-YY

WAP54G #2 in repeater mode with YY-YY-YY-YY-YY-YY in the repeater field. It has a wireless mac address of ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ-ZZ

Seems straight forward but I cannot get #2 and #1 talking to each other.

As I had explained earlier, I tested putting MAC XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX from the WRT54G into WAP54G #2 and that works, but it is not what I require from this setup.

    Thanks for your help.

Are you using DD-wrt or the original firmware from Linksys? Do they work between WRT54G to one WAP54G?

    I think with WAP54G, you don't need DD-WRT and just use DD-WRT in WRT54G.
