My WRT54G version 3 quit working a few weeks ago and I replaced it with the version 5(all at Wal Mart were version 5) Anyway, I had been using the wps54g with mixed results. It would work for a while and then just suddenly quit working/responding.

Now after switching to the newer version of the router all has been well for weeks:^), why this is so I'm not sure. I had the lastest firmware on my version 3 piece.

I know the version 5 is much maligned because 3rd party firmware is not generally avaliable but are they actually better for the more casual user like myself who runs the stock firmware? Mine seems to be very stable and robust and it performs better than my version 3 router did.....

The older v3 used a diffrent chipset than the newer v5 .

I noticed that same problem with a v3 & 2.2 when wirelessly connected to the wps.

Using a wrt54gc the connection is never lost .

as u said ur having a wrt54gv5 first check the firmware of the router if it is less than 1.00.9 then update it first it will fix all ur issues because with all the older firmwares this particular router causes all types of probs so update it with the latest firmware which is 1.00.9 u can get the latest firmware from www.linksys.com/download update it and pls mail me the result to sreevas.v@gmail.com bye
