    What about,

    1) No wireless connection to web management interface after logging in once.

    2) Constant dropping and picking up W/LAN and LAN connections?

Am I the only one having these troubles? I have spent three days on this thing and having trouble finding ANY stable SW.

Tried Freeman 1.0.4 and found there was no communication through WAN when running as DHCP client on WAN port.

BTW I love some of the extra features the SW gives but it is no good if the thing doesn't maintain a relaible connection.

I use to get a little annoyed by some of the bugs in my DI-624+. Now I really appreciate how good it is after trying to get the WRT54G running.

Anyone want to buy a WRT54G?

i dont have problems like in your description. maybe you have to learn how to configure your unit well
point 1 and 2 is no issue

    hi,

    Very nice look ;-)

    My problems

-(*)The WRT-radauth web page is bugged, the save setting box is on the top of the page with firefox (I don't use, just a remark)
-(*)I can't connected to my dreambox connected to my client router from my computer connected to the AP, The dreambox can access to internet. (same thing after reboot)
I can only access to the client router GUI whith the external IP (wan).
-I need to restart manualy httpd after a reboot of the AP
-with WPA-PSK2 on the AP, the client router don't see the AP.
change to WPA-PSK : connect immediatly.
-save button don't work whith Firefox on /Wireless_Advanced.asp
    -same /Management.asp

(*) Perhaps a memory error, after firmare default (again), no error on WRT-radauth page and connexion to dreambox work fine..... wait & see...

Now, there is the rev on the title, it's good, perhaps you can add the router name also ?

    Great :thumb:

Thanks all!!! WPA-PSK works on "Client Bridge" mode!!!

Will be implementing this soon... say bye bye to my Senaos

Thanks much to Brainslayer and the rest of the crowd! I'll post my tests soon.

    One more update.

    WPA-AES works as well.

And, my humble advice: do a

    erase nvram;reboot

through telnet or SSH every time you change the wireless settings on the client. It seems to work better for me. Else it jsut doesn't connect at all.

This could be a big pain when doing remote administration though :(

Still is a step forward. Secure client bridge mode with WEP or WPA.

    Upgraded to 10/21 Beta2

    1) Still have logging problems. After reset, enable logging, logs ok. Make all settings. Logging OK. Save config - logging stops, httpd crashes. After power reboot - no more logging (GUI or syslog)

    2) JFFS2 = 100% full - WRT54G V2.2 Std build

    3) we NEED a working config backup/restore

  11. Cyberian75

    Cyberian75 Network Guru Member

Works here, though it does crash afterwards.

  12. dellsweig

    dellsweig Network Guru Member

Tha backup seems to work but it must corrupt nvram when it does the backup.

If I take a clean working V23 (8/21) load on my 2.2 WRT, do a backup config - logging stops, httpd crashes.

If I then reset router, setup new defaults - including turning logging on - then I load the config from the last backup - config settings load but logging no longer works and access lists no longer function.

I repeated above tests - did a iptables -- list at each step and diff'd the result files - MAJOR differences between the files

  13. simax

    simax Network Guru Member

    I can second that.

Did a backup (so happy to see WPA working that I thought it would be good to keep it) and everything got messed.

Had to upload firmware again :(

    Using a WRT54GS v1, by the way.

You dont think point 1 & 2 are issues? It must be you guys are willing to accept a buggy product because it is your hobby to play around with this stuff all day. If the box said on it unstable and unreliable and a computer geek's/hacker's dream then I would not have bought it.

All I want is some stable software and a w/router that works as good as my D-Link DI-624+.

Can anyone recommend some software that is stable and works?

    I have tried DD-WRT 2.3b and Freeman 1.0.4 + Linkysys latest versions.

Freeman 1.0.4 didn't drop connections every 30 seconds but wouldn't talk to my modem when running as NAT client.

DD-WRT dropped connections all the time but would talk to my modem.

I think he is saying that no one else seems to have the problems you describe. I don't for example. Perhaps your WRT is defective?

I find that constant connection dropping is often traced back to having 802.1x enabled in the client software, when it's not setup on the AP. The client tries to negotiate this, doesn't find it, works for 30 seconds and then repeats.

Also, the website shows v22 as the stable firmware, why are you using v23beta2 and expecting stable? You understand what beta means right? It is for experiment and test, not production use.

Ok it appears that the WRT54G I have may not be faulty.

Linksys support contacted me and gave me a reset procedure.

30 secs hold reset then disconnect power for 5 secs then power on the release reset after 10 more seconds.

Does this ring a bell with any one?

Gone back to latest Linksys firmware v4.00.7 and all seems well. Had a couple of other problems like turning on WPA but still connecting as if open network. Found hitting defaults from the web GUI and starting again seemed to fix it.

So maybe this box is finicky regarding reset procedures etc.

    hi,

This morning my client router is KO again, reset (and telnet to restart httpd), I can now access to the GUI but the router don't route. I can't ping the dreambox (connected to the client router-wifi) form by computer (connected to the AP-wifi) and my dreambox can't access to Internet. (I can ping the dreambox from a telnet on the client router).

Seem not to be the best client router version :(

    The AP mode work fine.

    i have a similar problem :
when i do a backup (nvram backup) , httpd crash , i need to restart it login in with ssh or telnet (httpd -d /www/)

but i don't have the same problem as you, while doing a config restore,
my logging is still fonctionnal , wallwatcher still have entries, httpd and gui are up, i don't use jffs

so for me that's not a big problem, fixed with a "httpd restart" when I do a config backup.

    (wrt54gs v1.1)

The httpd -S still runs even though the https server is disabled. This has been note several times in the past, but I have never seen an explanation. I assume it is a bug.

no i means these issues are no issues since it works. i dont have connection drops and reaching the web gui is possible to if you enabled remote management. thats why i said, learn to configure it. and if you're flooding your router with fileshareing traffic connections can drop. solutions, increase the tcp max connection setting

no this doesnt let ring a bell. i said it hundret of times. please reset your nvram after flashing to v23

    Keep Alive option not working?

I have setup the router to reboot itself every day at 6AM. This option is not working in new Beta from 21.10.2005. It has worked in previous beta versions.

  31. simax

    simax Network Guru Member

Re: for whats is work GUI ROCKS ! but router didn't work :(

Well then you are actually using CLIENT mode (not client bridge mode) , those IPs are not correct or you are using a /16 subnet mask, not a /24 (255.255.0.0 instead of 255.255.255.0)

If you want to used bridge mode, then your host ("your ip" as is listed) will be in the subnet as the AP you are trying to bridge to. So it would be 192.168.1.x instead of 192.168.2.x

Client Bridge = no subnets, same network
    Client = different networks. Routing.

Or again, maybe you are using a /16 network mask.

Still , the client bridge mode is not very stable. But hopefully it will soon be. :thumb:

    BrainSlayer,
Will you please comment on the following bugs? They have existed for a long time and each have been reported by more than one person:

    1. httpd crashes when backing up the config from the GUI

    2. dropbear service isn't started the first time you enable ssh

    3. After enabling ssh the HTTPS service is started an cannot be disabled.

Are you aware of these bugs and just need more time to fix them or are you unable to reproduce them? I don't know if I should keep reporting them every time a new version is released or not... :?

I've most recently confirmed all three bugs on a WRT54GS v2 using the v23 (10/21/05) build. (And yes I reset to defaults EVERY TIME I upload a new firmware!)

BTW, awesome firmware. It appears to be shaping up nicely! Keep up the good work!

I completely agree with the above post.

I have been reporting these for some time and it would be nice to know if you (Brainslayer) have at least been able to duplicate the issue. I know there are many that can supply additional info (nvram dumps, configs, etc)

I will add one more item to the list

    4) Logging stops after config save. Only way to get logging operational is a hard reset and re-configuration.

Brainslayer - can you please give us a status on these issues

BTW: This is the most stable, most operational release I have used. Really good work

    hi dellsweig
as I told in my earlier post, I don't have this pb.
the problem I have, is when I hit "config backup", not when I use "config restore".
on "config backup" httpd crash but loggin still functional
on "config restore", no pb with the loggin entries , they are still displayed.

i'm running a gs model v1.1 with latest firmaware.

big up to brainslayer , for fixing soooo many bugs, and filling so many requests.

    Just upgraded from v22 to v23 (10/24/05)

The only reason I upgraded is because a while back I was sure that someone posted that the wireless bandwidth issue was fixed in v23.. Well after installing and doing a full reset I was dissapointed to see the same 11Mbit speeds on my wireless G equipment.

Was this change reverted? What kind of speeds is everyone else getting between LAN and WLAN?

Also UPNP appears to be broken.. When launching Azureus I get the following erros with UPNP enabled in DDWRT

UPnP: Mapping "Incoming Peer Data Port (TCP/6991)" failed
UPnP: Mapping "UDP tracker client port (UDP/6881)" failed

Looking at the PnP tab in the web interface I can see that 6881 UDP is mapped.

I did not have this problem in v22

I am trying not set my machines up on his network. 192.168.1.XXX
and using 192.168.2.XXX so that my wan ip is on his network.
192.168.1.102 going through his gateway 192.168.1.1
    ...

using my router as ethernet bridge.
it works fine using older firmware but with new firmware it connects and doen't connect to the internet.

    Any ideas.
Anyone else having dificulty in client mode

    BrainSlayer,

Think I found a bug with the Restore to Factory Defaults option... it only appears to reset the default nvram variables, it leaves any custom variables you create alone. For example, try entering the following commands:

    nvram get vlan2ports
** Notice that there is no output for above command **
    nvram set vlan2ports="4 5"
    nvram commit
    reboot

Next run 'nvram get vlan2ports' again just to confim it was saved

Now go to the Administration > Factory Defaults page and reset to factory defaults. After it reboots log in and run 'nvram get vlan2ports' one last time and you will notice that it was NOT erased... This doesn't seem right. :eyebrow:

Tested on a WRT54GS v2 (Will someone else confirm?)

I've also found some other bugs related to the Setup > VLANs page that I'll post later...

  52. Honki

    Honki Network Guru Member

confirmed! - The same on me, but there are more NVRAM-Variables this not reset (like Sip-Domain and Sip-port under Administration-Side).

mtd erase nvram do not help! - only Hard Reset over 30 sec.

  53. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

only known vars are resetted and vlan2ports arent known.

  54. 4Access

    4Access Network Guru Member

This is VERY misleading!!! I think you should add some text to the page that says "Warning: Resetting to factory defaults does NOT reset custom nvram variables!!"

Then please add an option to the page for resetting ALL nvram variables!! (It should have the same affect as using the 'erase nvram' command.)

    On a related note:

On the Firmware update page does the reset to "Factory Defaults" option behave in the same manner?

What about the reset to "Firmware Defaults" option? Does that reset ALL nvram variables????

    :?
