    What do i have wrong?

    Do I have to turn afterburner off on all?
    Can I set the SSID to different names, so I can find the closest router depending on where I am in the house?

    i've linked 3 WRT54GL together with WDS (using Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c), but i think there are no big differences to WRT54GS.
    at the moment i'm not able to check all details of your settings, but i've played around a lot and finally it works perfect for me.
    try this:

    1) router AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:
    --> i'm using WPA + PSK, WEP didn't work for me.
    --> Wireless Network Mode: MIXED (G only caused problems for me)
    --> i DONT use any startup script like wl lazywds 0 ... or else!

    2) router BB:BB:BB:BB:BB:BB:
    --> try wireless mode = WDS+AP (otherwise WLAN clients are not able to connect on this router)
    --> WPA + PSK with same key as router AA:AA:AA:AA:AA:AA
    --> Wireless Network Mode: MIXED
    --> NO startup script like wl lazywds 0 ... or else

    3) router CC/DD/EE:
    --> same settings as BB:BB:BB:BB:BB:BB

    some hints:

    * use the same SSID and same channel for all routers!
    * if you've enabled MAC filtering: be sure that every router has all MAC addresses of the linked routers (i never tested without MAC filter)!
    * be sure to get the right MAC address: there are 3, you have to take the WLAN-MAC!
    * after changing of the configuration reboot all routers.
    * after rebooting look in "Status" --> "Device List" if you have entries like "wds0...."

    good luck!

    I did not check everything either, but I think:

    Spanning Tree protocol must be on on all routers, or you may get loops, even if you have a 3->1 setup.

    Try specifying the MACs in the html interface, as maybe, at startup time, the wl functionality is not there yet.
